@@katdog9786 I doubt that, British tipping culture is the absolute worst and in no way comparable to the US. Idk if he's just a bartender or the F&B, but only the latter will get the 70 bucks you assume. As unbelievably as it sounds, that 3rd guy running around there will barely make a living in London.

Big respect to bartenders in these types of places, they go absolutely nonstop. I worked as a barrunner in one of these places quite near fallow and the amount of pressure the bartenders were under some nights was ridiculous, they would easily make several hundred cocktails a regular night, probably much more on busier nights, alongside other drinks as well. The professional courtesy they have with each other is my favorite thing. This is how I speak to my colleagues and it does wonders for team cohesion and the guest experience. I was regarded by many to be one of the best bartenders in my city, and people would turn down sitting at a table immediately in favor of waiting up to 90 mins to sit at my bar, and I think the way I spoke to my coworkers was a substantive part of that. Of course they like good drinks, and watching the precision, speed, attention to detail, and ability to multitask, but seeing someone so busy take the time to be so polite is one of those things you just love to see.

@ItsChrisFtw
@ItsChrisFtw 11 месяцев назад
@@rudolfszam7099 Sorry for the long delayed reply mate. I meant to get back to you and, well, was busy slinging drinks! Prep work is fairly simple for us, we're focused mostly on classics but the sheer volume is so high that we can't even be bothered to press our own juices. Usually showing up 1-1 ½ hours early to make syrups, unload the liquor order, fruits/garnishes, ice, polishing, the usual really. Bartenders in the states make faaar more than those aboard to my knowledge. Whereas we are paid only $3.50/hour, all of our money comes from tips. Which generally speaking, is roughly 22% of the total bill. When you're dealing with expensive cocktails and highly expensive scotch pours, the total can add up quick. So on a total bill of about $300, which can happen pretty easily, I'll expect to make $60 off that table. Due to the nature of Hotels, and being one of the more prestigious hotels in the city, we get a ton of corporate events, wedding crowds, etc that come piling in. Any wedding, party, event going on in the hotel is autogratted 22%. Meaning our tip is already counted in the total on the bill. And very often, guests will not realize this and tip on top of that, often netting us a 42%(+) tip on each bill.
@ItsChrisFtw
@ItsChrisFtw 11 месяцев назад
@@rudolfszam7099 I work alongside a few other bartenders to work on the menu, usually entailing 1 or 2 new monthly featured cocktails. I'll average anywhere from 30-40hours a week and take home roughly $1300-$2,000 a week after taxes are taken out. Honestly, there's some luck of the draw when it comes to securing positions like this. Make no mistake, the better you are at your craft, the better money you'll generally make, as you can go just about anywhere. But there was some luck, and some schmoozing to get in. Highly suggest if you do this, get into Hotels. Prominent Hotels that see many guests. The benefits are great as well. Cheers.

The mise on this array of drinks is phenomenal! I worked bar for a few months in a tourist hotel/ye olde pubbe. The closest we came to serving a cocktail was rum and coke. When I saw the video title, I thought to myself I bet it would be a laugh, tending bar in a restaurant, but then I think back to a customer I served who was eating dinner, it was my first experience serving a bottle of wine for customers... I'm kinda glad it was the exception and not my usual work area!

Cocktail making is so fun, rewarding but stressful. Loved to work here + have a great team like this... Quick question, do you place down a napkin like in the US ? You are also very kind to your staff, making sure they're alright + being polite yet firm with them

Im curious how they are ringing in all of these peoples orders. Unless I'm blind, I don't see them using a computer to track who is drinking what and eating what.

Damn watching this make me feel so calm. Years ago, I did have a job as a bartender with minimum wage. And damn it should be illegal. The bar can have max 110 people at once. The bar is so small that it barely fits 3 barmen, and it's never the case since the owner always put only 2 barmen in, even within rush hour. There was a huge shortage in personnel. Us 2 barmen have to do all the work including washing glasses, making coffee + cocktails, doing stocks and sometimes even become the waiter ourselves if the "real" waiters were too busy, and we want to avoid serving a cold coffee or a melted mojito. Not to mention having to prepare the ingredients if they run out, if the morning ship didn't prepare enough (imaging having to pick mint leaves or cut lemons or making orange juice when you have 10+ tickets waiting) And damn we would be making 10+ cocktails/smoothies at the same time lol. The tickets can sometimes touch the floor. At the end of the day, we even have to bring in outside tables (which was more than 30) and heavy af. We have 30 mins of break every 5 hours, other than that, no right to sit down, even if there is no customer. What made me quit this job is having the owner complaining that we talk too much. Meanwhile, we were communicating to make the orders done together. To be clearer, us barmen were speaking English while the owner only understands French. She even sends one of us home just bcuz "the barman was chatting too much", leaving the other dying in orders. Our poor manager always has to jump in to help with kitchens and bars because of that stingy owner who doesn't try to hire enough personnel. Also, working overtime was something so obligated. They can assign you to work until 1am, but if at 1am there are too many customers and you want to leave, other workers would talk badly about you, since you are "letting them surfer" meanwhile the fact is that's poor management of the owner. Since doing that, she can send back home easily someone when there is no customer so no need, and kinda obligates them to stay when she needs them. All for minimum wage, lol.

P/S: Yeah i had to work like 50 hours/week at rush month. The contract is 35 hours/week. They would decrease my working hours to like 28, 29 hours on the weeks that there are less customers.

I like how people who spend more money on their food seem to care less about the cook touching it. In the fast food and small kitchens I have worked customers would go through the roof if I would have dropped a measuring spoon in their drink and had to fish it out with my hand. Yet this guy can do it right in front of the lady and get away with it.
