Yeah I agree brother. Got 21 years powder coating back in November. First and only job back in 99 ( right outta high school ) even started my own business 3 years ago . I’m amazed with some of the things this channel posts . Their Facebook group is great too . Tons of awesome guy on that page wiling to share their tips

Your videos are a unique combination of relaxing and educational. I am not a production coater and struggle with proper film build. How do you make sure you get enough material on and not too little? I get it's experience but I am wondering if there is a way to measure the Mil coverage before baking. Thank you in advance.

you can get tools to measure mil thickness before curing. THey are quite expensive. you can use an LED Flashlight to check coverage too

Great video. I’ve got a question for you. On the 4 stage Leprechaun sparkle; can you give a list of colors used and any “bake/gel out” times throughout the process. And also, were any of the coats Hot Flocked? Thanks for making informative videos and taking the time to answer “Newbbies” like myself

damn I dont even know if I remember the colors, i think heavy silver, disco lemon drop, cortez teal, chameleon teal, PS they were listed in the video, I just watched it back lol. I do flow out plus 3 minutes on most in between coats. I hot flocked the Chameleon teal at the end.

Great video.. I am having orange peel on my parts and sometimes its hard to get the powdercoat to cover sharp edges? Can you give me some tips that you use for these 2 scenarios?

U need a good ground, also try heating the whole part before shooting so it can reset the charge and won't be concentrated on the edges... Also make sure it's free from any dust... Wipe it with some MEK or acetone..

You ever do any motorcycle parts, say tank and fenders? Was wondering how the powder coating would hold up. Especially the tank with the chance spilling gas on top of the coating.

Beginner question, on the turbo housing, did you take all the casting marks off the entire coated surface? I’m just wondering if you didn’t, is there a noticeably smooth spot where you took the lettering off after coating?

nah it was a pretty smooth casting luckily, but that being said, with this many coats, unless it sand cast, you wouldnt see any casting stuff

How do you not get back ionization holding the gun so close? What kinda nd of film builds do you get on the finished product?

low kv and mA I am usually right on spec for film thickness but when you are stacking 4 layers its gonna get a little wild

@@UnknownCoatings I'm sure it does! I was a quality auditor in the paint department at Honda for 22+ years, so I'm fluent in ecoat, powder and liquid applications. So, I was just curious. I just know that the heavier the film builds are, the easier it is to chip.

I base it on local options. call around see the pricing, adjust as needed. I am confident in my pricing for common jobs. I sort of wing it for other jobs.

at what point in the coating process do you remove the high temp tape?

varies by job. the amber tape I use can be pulled at the very end, I usually do it with the part still warm

I put down masking tape, then duct tape over that, stops from leaving residue from the duct tape

I tried to powder coating myself the results were pretty good, but somehow I got the pertalite the color of the powder coating became dull and soft. what was the error in my work?

Sounds like it was under cured. remember parts need to get to 400 degree PMT for 10 minutes (most powders) you dont just put a part in an oven thats 400 degrees for 10 minutes.

Personally I hot coat the majority of everything . Other than clear on dormants . Is there a reason why you hit coated the clear on the teal but bit on the base coats ?

I would think a turbo gets to hot for powder coating. How does it hold up?

Holds up just fine. THe cold side of a turbo doesnt get that hot at all

@@robertprice9052 ultimately you would probably be fine. But they do offer high temp powder coating for that specific task. Limited colors obviously

Can you walk us through the amount of layers on the last piece please as there was alot lol Can u see through them all? Why did u do one of them hot?

There was 4 total. If I shoot hot its typically to "stack" a metal flake to create more depth and more sparkle. And you can see thru them yes, only one you cant was the basecoat.
