This is my classic steel wheel fitted to a Triumph Acclaim. You can't buy these any more so I decided to restore the original wheels at home in my workshop. I had the tyre fitted at the local tyre fitting bay though.
Next time put the whole rim in a container of vinegar for 48 hours with a fish tank bubbler and don’t kill your self with all the power tools that can’t get rid of all the rust when an acid bath will
I literally have NO idea why I just watched you restore an old rim..........for 12 minutes. Oddly enough, it took me another 12 minutes of self reflection to realize that it was quite satisfying for some reason. Kept popping in to my feed so finally I was like, "alright then, I will watch it already". I am glad I did. Thank you. Subbed!
HERE IN BRAZIL, THIS WHEEL ROOF 13 WAS ORIGINALLY IN FIAT UNO MILLE FIRE 1.0 AND OTHER FACTORY CARS. THESE WHEELS ARE BEAUTIFUL AND VERY RESISTANT. YOUR WORK IS DONE WITH DEDICATION AND LOVE AND THIS IS WORTH MY FOOT CLAP. (THREE POND / BRAZIL)
This video was simply a joy to watch. Great video quality and timing. A lot of details and steps(metal brush, degrasing, sandblast, grinding, powder coat etc etc) definitely a shop job. Thanks for sharing your work.
Great video Martin. Wow what a finish ! you will have to do the other 3 now lol. I was cringing watching you cut that old tyre off with that stanley knife it case it slipped off ! Great job as usual Martin looks great. Cheers, Jeff.
I have done this before on some rims that were in no where near as bad condition, the end result is definitely rewarding and worth it, but at the same time the amount of time and effort that goes into doing this almost seems less worthwhile than just going and spending the money on some brand new rims. Definitely a good way to save money.. just depends on how much you value your time.
Martin that was wheely good restore but you must of had to tread carefully prepping ,thought i might get tyred watching but i was blown away on balance. Good one Martin
That's a triumph in its self Martin if you ever need to remove tyres In future a bit of 50x50 6mm angle and a sledge hammer are your friend along with 2 tyre levers keep up the good work love the content
When you were cutting the tire open using a razor, I thought of the U.S. Border Patrol. The U.S. Border Patrol cut open tires that way, because they are full of drugs or money. Sadly, your tire was just full of political promises. =(
Wow. And all this time I thought I needed a machine to take the wheel off the rim. All I ever needed was for Martin to show up. Martin, you are a brute, my friend. Amazing work.
Nicely done Martin. I like that powder coat color as well. I did the same thing to four wheels off a Geo Metro. However I like your way to remove the tires verses what I did. I used a cut off disk on an angle grinder. DON'T EVEN TRY IT! The hot rubber slings off everywhere and it seriously burns as well. The hacksaw was a better option, in my opinion. Thumbs Up!
Wish I had a sand blaster and a degreaser bath and a powder coater and a oven and a tyre fitter and tyre balancing machine and a nice big workshop to put it in but because I don't I'll just enjoy the show.
It is powder coating and won't scratch. You never remove the weights after they have been fitted so it doesn't matter. It wasn't me either. I took it to a shop to have the tire fitted.
@@RetroHax you remove the weights every time you change the tire. You center both tire and rim, not just one. Powder paint doesn't scratch and chip? Magical paint 😀
Nice that you showed the reinforcing in the tyre, not something you'd normally see (unless you worked in the tyre trade).Took alot of work Martin but it looks very good.
For a while I thought you had a rusty wheel. Try cleaning a tractor wheel rim that's been soaking in calcium chloride for 30 years. Nevertheless, beautiful job! Thanks for the video.
Nice job sir I like to watch your videos so I can relax all you got to do is the outher three but I know that you will turn junk into something amazing thank you for your video's keep safe and well my friend thank you Brian
Now you're actually on to something. People in the U.S. pay big bucks to for restored rims. Especially vintage rims. Custom colors are a big deal here but a lot places don't want to do it. That's something that you could make a lot of money on!! Might want to look into it.
Triumph Acclaim wheel, to be honest I thought it was too far gone but you pulled it off. Can't wait to see the Acclaim finished, seems like a bit of a labour of love for you now Martin?
Turned out ok. I would have pressure washed it first. Then used paint stripper and then used the sand blaster in which you need better air flow. Get a 5 gallon bucket and the tornado plus a shop vacuum. It will make a huge difference.
That's not what you showed. The wheel was still all rusty when you started wire wheeling it. Then you took it into the sandblasting cabinet in which the paint was still on and started blasting the paint off. If you had used paint stripper there would have been no paint. So I dont know what you think you have done. The video doesn't lie.
Can I restore this wheel to where I would put it on my car? Hell no. Can I restore this wheel and make a 12 minute video that will make me some nice ca$h? You bet I can... Heck, I watched it. Oh hell, I'd put that on my car. Quality workmanship.
