On the topic of the blaster blowing through the cabinet, I use the same setup, I just added a valve between the hose and the deadman valve. Needs to be replaced weekly but works for me.
Another great video, I have been searching for a new oven. I called Ted today and am placing my order for a new oven tomorrow, knowledgeable guy... I let him know I got to him from your video.
Bro, got the oven, definitely bad ass. What are the chances you’d be willing to chat with me on the phone a few minutes? I’m curious about some of your curing times and part temperatures...
Brother, Find some scraps of clear bra to protect the glass on the inside. I use expel from the local wrap guy. It works crazy well and doing 2 to 3 sets of wheels a day it lasts a couple weeks. Hope I can help the community
Regarding your blow through of metal in your blast cabinet I would suggest hanging some thick rubber mat on the walls this will help with that that's what I have in my blast cabinet and it works great. Great video and subscribed
The old sand blast cabinet we had at our workplace instead of replacing the glass we laid a sheet of clear acetate sheet over the glass which is cheaper than replacing the glass.
I started using clear shelving paper on my glass. And the sand doesnt etch the glass. And last a long time. The clarity is less then purfect. But it is great.
Try putting a ball valve right before the deadman/nozzle. Also, I switched to the tapered nozzle holder because the nozzles are cheaper and easier to find. 1/8" nozzles, that is.
just seems like a valve up there will be too bulky. plus the line will fill with sand to some degree. I think I found a pinch valve setup im gonna try out
It’s not much bulk added. Definitely will save you from more frequently refilling your pot/wasted media being shot out. Those holes are obvious from the media shooting out for a while. Phone rings, customer walks in etc... sometimes you will just forget. Also if you want to make it less “bulky” take all the plastic casing off. We did the same, took the spring lever off, took off the casing and added a ball valve. Valve does not clog. Get a stainless valve if you can it will last a bit longer. Eventually you do have to replace it as it wears. Another option: add an electric ball valve outside the cabinet with a switch.
hey, do you recommend putting a small vent (hole/tube) in the oven to possibly equalize pressure in the oven which would also slowly vent fumes. i have seen these on smokers etc...
Great video! I build and sell drum smokers and am going to be doing all the sandblasting and powdercoat or paint instead of out sourcing. I am building a 20x48 workshop. I will be doing side work, sandblasting and powdercoat once I get proficient enough at it. I would love to pick your brain if that would be ok? TIA
Great video!!! I contacted green diamond and with shipping it is to costly for me. is there any other media I can use and grit size. I am going to get the pot from Harbor freight. Great way to save on media. Thanks
great videos! im watching your channel for so long I cant keep this to myself no more. Please use a respirator! nover see you using it... safety first!
Hello again. I'm back lol. I recently found ur channel. IV been searching many RU-vid channles. And find yours the best. I'm looking into PC for my self (building a 65 C10) and maybe turning into a business. I just retired so will start low budget. On powered coat storage you showed bags just sitting in open on shelf. I leave in SW Louisiana and very humid down here would I need to store different? And you show chemical stripping. When do one strip versus blast ? TIA
humidity is the devil in regards to coating, so I would suggest a better storage setup down there. CHemical stripping is done to speed things up. Blasting a set of wheels would take hours, vs 15 mins in the stripper and 8 mins in the cabinet.
Great video man. Can you tell me what you use to hang your wheel to coat? Seems you use normal hooks as well as an another. Can you point me in the correct direction.
Thanks for the video man. Very informative. Was wondering if you could add some links to the water traps/ additional filters you use for your compressor? I had issues with oil and moisture back in the day messing with my blasting setup / getting into my air spraying nozzle.
So when u check your part temp in the oven u have to open the big door doesn't that let out alot of heat and how long it take to get up to temp with 2 elements
I like your video's , and I'm busy to make an oven by myself, you've got two burners / elements what is the power of each element. And where do you buy them? What is the gap of the blasting gun that you use? Just a few questions to get my setup finished.
Good video and very informative. So it looks as if your using the pot to run the blast cabinet correct? I'm assuming to get more pressure and media than just from a syphon tube? Thanks
@@UnknownCoatings Thank you for the quick response and i'm actually picking up some Green Diamond media today to try out. Was using AO but the dust it made was terrible, then i went to Red Garnet and it works great with very very little dust but it doesn't last very long before i have to renew with new media. I am always willing to try other things and next i want to try the pot blaster hookup to my cabinet to see how well that works for me. I have the same exact Skat Blast cabinet as you. I do tons of motorcycle parts but very few wheels since it takes forever for me to blast a wheel but i get asked alot if i can and i have been turning away that business. I have to ask, why do you change the cabinet glass instead of changing lens protectors? Seems like the glass would be way more expensive.
29:19 what do you for your powder hopper jars? I really wanna go that route. Looking for something like you have for my business as well. Just about to upgrade all of my equipment in your video has really enlighten me.
so this may sound stupid ...but can you show how your blast pot is connected to your blast cabinet i think i want to do that as my snap-on suction cabinet always has problems with pressure
Why don’t you use the plastic stick on panels on your blast cabinet glass. I’ve been blasting with mine for 15 or so years and never changed glass yet. Just peel and stick on a new panel when it gets cloudy. Costs me $32 Canadian for 50 stick ons.
Hey man I have a quick question for you. Have you ever tried powerstrips envirostrip or quick cut 3? Been looking for reviews on these products but have had no luck.
looking also for a blasting pot for the blasting work. instead of suction the blasting i use now. and would like to know wich diameter nozzle you use in you blasting gun ?
Just wondering with this set up how did you candy coats on a set of wheels, I mean I can’t Vistula see the space you have to powder a set then put in the oven then to pull out once the powder starts flowing to put the second coat on before they all cool down. Sorry this may seem stupid but I can’t visualise you doing wheels with that set up, I can see doing small parts Brakes Brackets Springs.
What do you use for vinyl cutter and software? Also what type o vinyl do you buy that holds up to heat? Thank you for the awesome content always waiting to see new videos.
So i have a question about your pressure pot so i need to do the same thing. So looks like u went to 1/2 inch on the bottom. My questions to your are. 1) the very first piece coming out of the bottom that screws into the tank before the valve did u keep the stock piece or is that different. 2) if different what is i the sizes? It looks like a barrel with two male ends. The size going into the tank is? And the one going into valve Ofcourse is 1/2. Thanks for the help.
I used a different one I think. its gotta be a 3/8 to 1/2 adapter honestly I just took the parts off, went down to the local hardware store and got some fittings to replace what was in my hand.
How much square footage do you have in your shop space? Just curious as I'm on the hunt for some shop space here in NC. Not exactly sure how much space I need!
Rim strip! How is it compared to b17. I’ve been using b17 for about a year. It strips quick! Is the rim strip still reasonably fast and how is evaporation? Thanks
I prefer it. Info is in the description. its basically the same as b17. but cheaper and ships faster. To stop evaporating put 2 inches of water on top of it. Works WONDERS
Do you use toughened glass or thought about traying it. Like the fact that you are producing top quality work with a powdercoating gun without all the bells and whistles. There's hope for us noobs lol
How do you apply second layers and have them adhere well? I spray super chrome then try a transparent color and I cants get it to stick at all. I have a hypersmooth 2 gun setup.
Unknown Coatings What do you normally spray your first coats and second coats KV at? And how can I fix grounding if I can seem to figure out why it’s not grounding now?
@@huntman21032 you will need multimeter. Lots of RU-vid videos on how to test a ground for resistance. I'd say start there. Let me know what you find out!
@@UnknownCoatings i ordered direct but got destroyed on shipping. but its worth it to get started with betyer media. adding an aftercooling and powercord to my compressor this weekend, and running the lines and hanging my pressure pot fittings, then i should be getting started!
How do you pass fire code with a DIY booth and oven every year? Doesn't the equipment have to be NFPA registered and building/HVAC/fire suppression plans be submitted to a fire marshal?
It varies county to county or city to city in most cases. My oven plugs in so is considered an appliance. The codes for my booth don't really exist as it stands.
@@UnknownCoatings Thanks. It does seem like oven appliance designation is clear but the requirement for air speed and fire suppression are all reqs for Utah(?) The appliance part makes it awesome for you!
Quick question I tried to upgrade my pot blaster to the 1/2 stuff but the existing hoses don't thread into the pipe thread adapters any idea of where I can find the adapters that'll thread into my existing unit
The hoses don’t thread on to pipe, You need 1/2” NPT hose barbs Thread them into the 1/2” Tee, put the hose on the barbs and clamp securely www.amazon.com/CONCORD-Stainless-Steel-Barb-Fitting/dp/B075VF861W/ref=mp_s_a_1_3?dchild=1&keywords=1%2F2+npt+hose+barb&qid=1607464082&sprefix=1%2F2”+npt+hose+&sr=8-3
Unknown Coatings I just bought that and having nothing but issues. I need a good gun. The Kool Koat HD looks good. The Eastwood seams good for the first few min then I’m finding I need to shake the hose to get the same stream from start to finish. I can’t wait to see your demo video. Maybe I’m missing something and you can find the quick fix.
I started off using Eastwood’s dual voltage set up for small stuff at my shop That seemed to work fine on solid single coats, but not multiple coats. I recently purchased Eastwood’s hotcoat PCS 1000 to try and do some larger things with multiple coats. It has been a learning experience for sure lol. I seem to have a lot of grounding issues ( my assumption after doing some research ) and have no doubt a ton of user error and lack of experience but I would love to see what your thoughts and opinions of the system are. Have you decided if your going to do a video review on it?
Why in the world would you replace the glass in the cabinet? One piece of glass will last forever if you would use the adhesive plastic liners...I dont understand that at all.
@@UnknownCoatings , it takes about 45-60 seconds to do the whole job...Spray it with acetone or brake cleaner and it dissolves instantly, then just wipe the residue off with a rag..Few cents compared to 12 bucks for a piece of glass...A no brainer. I do like you videos BTW, just dont understand this.
@@johnblanton9969 takes me 30-45 second to replace the glass. I'd have to do the same work plus remove the residue plus add a new piece of plastic. It's 12 dollars well spent in my eyes. I can't imagine caring either way....
@@UnknownCoatings Gotcha!! Was just trying to be helpful, not smart. Just trying to save you some money. I figure if you are changing the glass out 2 times a week, that means $100 a month, $1200 a year, $6000 @ 5 years, etc. Over a five year period you might invest $50- $75 in liners. I have 3 Skat Blast cabinets myself, and when I change liners I generally dont clean the adhesive off but about once every 5 or 6 times. You simply just dont have to, it seals just fine. You are spending whatever time it takes to take the glass out anyways, so what's a minute more? That's just me thinking, anyways. Another thing, glass etches probably 10 times faster than the liners do as well, so if you are thinking of saving time , I'm guessing you'll change 3 -4 pieces of glass out during the same time span that you can get out of one liner..And then you dont have to keep making trips to the glass shop to pick new ones up. .Anyways, thanks for the conversation. I enjoy your videos.
