@@protestthisyouloser1093 Maybe you should work on switching your perspective every now and then if you really can't understand something as simple as that... first example that comes to mind is: "I'm a teenager and can't afford multiple setups but I love riding both street & park what wheels should I buy" Answer: dragons/softsliders Here's another one: "I'm a 30+ years old and heavy skater, my joints kill me after every session" Solution: get dragons/soft sliders Not trying to be rude but seriously dude, if you can't grasp something as simple as that your really need to work on yourself!
@@dmt_91 Can confirm was laughing at some of these posts. You can't do this... you can't do that. OMG some of you guys sound like my Mom back in the day. 😂
45 year old skater here. Changing the spot on the crooks test while the other guy is trying to lern that trick it’s a high level gentleman stuff. Super duper well done mate!
@@dadboard Dude! Mad respect for the channel🙏. Mid 30s father here and you have been so inspiring for getting back out there. Anyways keep up the good work my dude!
The dragons definitely shine on crust, I feel. They are definitely slow at a smooth park but I love em on crusty asphalt. Def wanna try the spitfire 93s too. Thanks man!
54mm dragons seem to be faster than my 52mm 99a OJ's.. on a smooth park. My old knees appreciate the rebound of the dragons and I've road daily on them for over a year now and they've barely worn. I'm sold on them bro
@@jensenacklese3049 yeah I can tell a definite improvement in knee and ankle pain with the dragons! In our skatepark bowl I definitely feel a bit more drag with the 93 dragons. But I also have the X97 and 99 formulas and they are great and fast. But the 93 dragons are what I skate the most because east coast crusty curbs.
This is what I’m leaning against when it comes to picking one. I changed to 101 duro on my cruiser board and feel blessed. Kinda miss the soft wheels but i don’t want to trade away the slide at all. It seems to me at least that the dragons do exceptionally well on rough surfaces, which is what I need. But the spitfires sound so good!
@@jensenacklese3049 I run the G3s but from your yt channel it looks like you hit parks way more than me so you put a lot more mileage on your wheels and bearings.
Would have liked to have seen a crusty comparison. Plus, woud love to see the Spitfire 93s vs 97s, which are my current go to for skating rougher stuff.
Prescription wheels for old guys 😆I do love my dragons... here in the UK the terrain (even at the outdoor parks) is tough... but I have wondered if they hold me back a little in other areas. I might set up my back-up board with the spitfires to see 🤔
Hearing you describe the dragon wheels lit up a thought for me. I could not figure out why I don’t like my dragons and I think you nailed it on the head
You should revisit this test in about a week. The Dragons definitely take some time to break in. I've been through 2 sets. Definitely going to try the Spitfires.
@@dadboard I was referring to the Spitfires. Just wondering if they react the same after some hours on them. I didn't like the Dragons until they had some hours on them. Felt very waxy at the beginning. And they're deadly with any moisture on the ground.
@@vorpalblades ahh ok yeah I plan on doing a real review on them once they’ve been ridden for at least 5-6 weeks. I’m really hoping they don’t get all shitty like the dragons after they wear down a bit.
The dragons I found to be a bit mushier. Haven’t had a chance to try the spitfires yet but am looking forward to trying them. Thanks for this vid and all you’re doing
I’ve been using 52mm Dragons for a few months but today I am going to put some 52mm x-97 on. I’ll be on those for a bit and then I definitely want to try the Spitfire 93s. Thanks for the review - I was procrastinating on switching out my wheels and this gave me the motivation to do it!
Great review man, I’ve been on the 97d spitfires for years and I love them because my back doesn’t hurt so much after skating now. Only problem is I can barely nose slide and tail slide with them so they’re holding me back from learning new tricks. Tried the dragons and their awesome on rough ground but I found them too bouncy for me. Like the timing is all different. Keen to try these new 93s though 👍
I'm an annoying stickler. I want to find a comparison of brand new 93a Spitfires vs the 93a Dragons. I have a new set of Dragon 93a on order. Maybe I should order up a set of the Spitfire's and do a brand new comparison against each other.
I’ve always been a Powell fan rather than Spitfire, and a softer wheel guy too. I think i will try a set of the Spitfires. And a set of the Powells that come in the freestyle shape, if I ever get round to trying a freestyle setup. it was nice seeing you pull off a few more gnarly tricks too in this vid.
I know they are different duro - but the comparison you made is how I felt on dragons VS the nano cubic 97 duro - which I feel is the same formula as bones 97x - Id love to see these spitfire 93a’s compared to the nano cubic / 97x wheels
Yeah that’s a more viable comparison tbh. Dragons seem a bit obsolete these days depending on what you read and who you talk to. I gave my x97’s to a kid at the skatepark a while back so unable to test them but I’m sure someone will in the next couple weeks
@@dadboard I put my dragons on my kids board - he skates about 1.5 miles to school every day- they are perfect for THAT but yeah too slow and too bouncy for regular skate spots I dig the nano cubics lately
I’m on my 3rd set of Dragons, and I love em. I will say, they take about a month of daily skating to start sliding like I want em to. And it’s funny, hard wheels feel slower to me. I set some 85 Dial Tones a few years ago, switched to 92 Clouds because the 85s were too sticky to slide, been on the Powells since they came out. Keen to try the Spitfires, and stoked they’ve finally made a mid duro wheel. But to reiterate, love the Dragons and I feel like the break in period is longer than most people who don’t like them out into them 🤷♂️
I love the Dragon wheels. Only other ones I've used that I can compare them too are the Bones x97s. Meh. Dragons COULD be the perfect wheel IF they were...say....95?
Can't wait for these in the Radial/Conical Full shape. Idk why companies don't make hard small duro wheels that have 27+ contact patch. Ultimate wheels would be 93a spitfires in 52-60mm sizes but that are 25-35mm contact patch
Wild. It seems like everybody is doing videos about wheels right now. I'm working on one myself 😜 I don't have the new soft sliders though. Thanks for giving us your thoughts on them.
I’ve been loving the dragons but it’s only recently that I’ve gotten used to them. I feel like once they were worn out a bit, they started to slide better. Once I’m done with these tho I’m def gonna try some spitfire 93’s
I wonder how these compare to the X97 and X99 wheels for rough asphalt and park. I agree that dragons are a little too soft, especially in a park. I also feel like spitfire and bones kind of give different durometer ratings… spitfire FF 99a feel harder and slower on crust than X99, but in that case, I really prefer X99. And luckily, they still feel good in the park.
I would suggest cleaning the bearings in those Dragon wheels. That may have been the issue when you showed us that they wouldn't spin. I am currently riding the Dragons and like them, but my next set of wheels will be the Spitfire. I want to try those as well. My old bones need soft wheels for street skating.
Dragons will feel slow and gummy in a smooth skatepark. The X97 and X99's are the harder versions which are MUCH better for skatepark use. I replaced my F4 99's with X99s. I think the formula gets better in harder duros.
I skate dragons 54mm and typically dont skate smoth areas anymore , but this weekend i was at a new skatepark and was having a hell of a time getting speed. Now i know why.
Hmm it does seem like spitfires are simply harder than the dragons? That would explain why they were not as fast on the smooth park ground. I had the 99a F4 Tablets which I loved, but they was no way they were 99a lol I did not want to put them down on asphalt. On top of that, there is the 2mm difference on the two sets which can be a surprising amount of difference. I usually ride 54mm, and when I tried my friend's 56mm, it was almost a night and day difference. I was just riding over everything like I was on a bike or something lol
In the other video you said the Dragons softened up after skating for a month... So, you are testing old and new. Will be interested to know if the Spitfires do the same thing over time.
Yeah they did but something I’m also remembering is that I rode the dragons in the summer, which I’m thinking will effect softer wheels the way it effects bushings. I’m about a month in on the 93’s and plan on making a breakdown video of my experience with them in a few weeks when it’s safe to say I’ve worn them down enough to have a solid understanding of them
I was not a fan of dragons and switched to x-formula 97a's after a couple weeks. I've been on those for a couple months now. I'm wondering how the Spitfire 93a's compare to those, might just need to grab a set!
finally got the Reynolds 52mm 93a classic and theres a night and day difference between my 52mm 99a classics when i was riding on blacktop. the only thing that’s weird so far is it sounds like soft rubbery when i go over a crack on like the sidewalk or even in the skatepark. did you notice that at all?
There is a Spitfire F4 97 A wheel already, but it seems based on the same formula as the regular 99 / 101 A wheels. Since they took so long to come out with the 93s, maybe there is a new / different formula being used here.
@@JT-un7dcI’m still young (25) but i find cupsoles bother me more than Vans skates, mainly cuz cupsoles almost always have a slightly higher heel than toe which puts your foot at a slight angle in the shoe, and that puts more pressure on my knees and hurts them and my back! So vans skates specifically Rowan’s or halfcabs combined with 97a formula 4s is great for me
He is, but he’s encouraged me to be critical and honest in any feedback. Once these 93’s are worn down a couple mm I’ll be giving my final thoughts on their performance, the good and the bad.
This wasn’t even the review. Just a head to head comparison in a specific environment. The shitty review will be in about 2 months. Tune in and hate on it for the algorithm 🙏
