Hubby and I followed your instructions step-by-step and were able to replace the antenna mast with NO problems. I'm so glad I found your video. Thanks a million for sharing!!
Thank you! Need to do this on the car I just bought. I always assumed you had to take it apart and attach the cable somewhere. Appreciate you showing us how to do it!
Glad you posted this video forgot to let mine down going through the car was they want 170 labor and $130 for the part 😑 found the antenna mast on eBay for $12 and with your help $0 labor fee 🙌🏾
Great lesson Bob, it goes without saying that you need a better microphone (...🤔preferably a collar-mounted lavalier mic with built-in DSP single microphone noise reduction and pop-filtering...) but your instruction was second to none in both clarity and comprehensiveness and you really helped me out bigtime which is appreciated greatly, and for your efforts I say bravo sir and thank you! Easy sub and thumbs up 👍
Very well done and professional tip on mast replacement. It gave me the confidence to go after it myself. I also visited your website and saved it under my favorites. Will definitely tell me friends when they run into a repair issue with their stereo, for the dealers will charge you an arm and a leg. THANKS !!
Thank you for the great video. I will be replacing a bent antenna on a Toyota 4Runner 1999. I am confident now to replace it. I really thought it was much more complicated to do this.
Awesome video thank you. With your video it was so easy to replace my antenna mast - my wife is very happy!! I had to remove the winder mechanism to remove some broken cable but once that was done it worked fine. In fact, the hardest part was removing the boot lining to get to the winder. With my Toyota Avalon (ancient model) I had to face the teeth to the rear of the vehicle. BTW, I had a genuine part which fitted straight away (of course) thanks to sydneycityparts on eBay at a huge saving over my local auto store.
Thank you, all this information is mentioned in the video along with showing the nylon cable piece found in the motor assembly. Measuring the new antenna mast with nylon cable agains the removed mast an cable will determine if part of the cable is left in the antenna motor assembly. Again, all mentioned in the video.
Awesome video i too had to get the broken piece of nylon out of my motor assembly. I replaced the mast with one i purchased online for $19 and an hour later works like new!!
Could you please upload a complete video, including the motor disassembly...the mast replacement is easy to perform, I actually replaced line today, but part of the nylon is still inside the motor and I would like to know how to take it sort so I can retrieve it and have the mast go all the way down
Folks, before you attempt this repair, here are some heads-up concerns that you don't see here. First, if your mast breaks, and you don't pull out the whole plastic drive cable, most of it is still in the motor assembly. You will need some mechanical skills to dissassemble the motor to remove all of the plastic pieces, otherwise, your new antenna mast will just break again due to all of the extra plastic drive rod pieces in the motor. If you can't do all of this, take it to the shop...Thanks!
Did you measure the new antenna and nylon cable agains the one removed? There may be a bad gear, or there may be a piece of nylon cable left in the antenna motor assembly.
I'm about to try and replace my antenna for my 2001 Lexus RX300, and want to make sure I've got the right plan. My antenna stopped going down but I could hear the motor running without the antenna moving. I'm assuming a new antenna won't completely solve this, and I'd need to see if there's anything in the motor causing the antenna not to go down?
I took the whole assembly out because I know the nylon snapped on it. I found that I cannot pull the mast out, it is stuck in there good. Do you have any tips on how to remove the mast if it is nature-welded into the assembly? My next move is to put the assembly in a vise, squeeze a vise grip onto the mass (which will crush it, but it's going to be replaced anyway) and hammer the vise grips until it pops out. I'll wait for your response first before I do this in case you have a better idea.
Thanks for your wonderful demonstration and information. Do you do work for you viewers or customers. I have a 2002 Lexus sc need the same work can you do it recommend I'll be appreciate thanks.
There are aftermarket antenna masts available. However, I suggest the exact replacement from the dealership.Maybe Cadillac has the part number, try it at a Chevy dealer$hip and save.
Bob, I have a question. A customer of mine decided to follow your instructions however, prior to that, he opened the antenna housing to get the rest of his nylon cable out. It had broken and left some inside the case. In doing this, he inadvertently removed and separated the large two-piece gear which brings the mast up an down. There is a correct way to put those gears back together on the Harada antenna unit which he has. In between the gears, there are two slots in which the top part, can sit. Could you tell me which is the proper way to assemble the gear? Which slot does the top notch go into?
1) Do you have the original part? Aftermarket replacement masts have problems. 2) Cable only catches for a short amount of time while when the stereo is turned off and motor runs in a downward direction. 3) Trying all directions, it should catch, sooner or later. 4) Keep trying, YOU CAN DO IT!
What direction (toward the front or rear) do the "teeth" on the nylon line go? reason I ask is the whole antenna is missing and I didn't really want to get into removing the inside panels & motor ect.... but I may have to if I have a part of the line gear broke off in the take up drum as you did just thought I'd ask before I go through all the trouble of pulling the motor- I might get lucky (But my luck usually ISN'T that good) Thanks
I did this over the weekend. Teeth toward front of car. I had to trim the antenna teeth a little to match up with the old length. When you trim it, cut the end into a v or rounded tip, really hard to feed it into the motor's smaller opening inside if you don't.
I have a 2005 Kia Cerato and I have the replacement antenna, but the problem is that I can't actually pull the old nylon cable out! It's still attached to the old antenna, but when it's either on or off, it won't pull out, it's stuck. Any suggestions? :)
should the nylon cable have grease/lubricant on it as a factory oem part? my cable is intact - the motor pulls the antenna all the way in but extends it only about 80% of the way, while it extends there is a grinding noise heard after about 3-4 seconds and it lasts until the end of the extension (about another 3 seconds). wondering if this could be caused or possibly fixed by lubricating the cable and or the mast or if a possible slight bend in the mast could cause it to retract fine but extend only around 80% of its length?Other notes: i can pull the mast the entire way up however when i do that it becomes "stuck" in the extended position and then requires that i cycle the stereo on/off and push the mast down with slight pressure to correct the problem. Thanks.
how much was the paint job and the new rear brake light assembly on that beautiful lexus after you let the antenna smack up against it several times at about the 5:56 minute mark? Just sayin. But actually I learned what to do to fix my antenna by watching this video.
Also, rather than using pliers for the nut on the top of the antenna, you can buy a socket that will fit the plastic nut and makes it much easier to remove it, for about 10 bucks.
No dealer has replacement parts for my 78 Seville. I bought a cable that came with the top mast ,mast is 4 inches longer than mine and also is threaded for the finiFinial on mine is pressed on and can't be removed without damaging it. Can i glue the new cable onto my old mast and if so, what is the best glue to use?
Thanks, Professional. Actually, the antenna of my car camry 1999 makes some noise. I just do some works like you did and the noise disappear. However, I can not put the cable and antenna in side the car as the beginning. Please help me, how could I do to fix this problem!
Ive got a small problem with my aerial on my 2002 mazda 626, last winter it would not go all the way down, now it does go down but only entends 4 out of the 5 sections, have you any idea on how to fix it? Thanks
After replacing the mast assembly on my 96 camry wagon the antenna retracts fine but after raising the antenna the motor continues to run so I had to disconnect the power. Is there an adjustment or do I need to make the antenna cable shorter?
I'm having a problem. I have an old Infinity and was able in the past to do this with relative ease except for now. Sometimes, when I attempt to feed the cable, I might hear a loud grinding noise and a momentary pause as it goes down. However, now, regardless of how it goes down, when it comes up it always making that "noise" and hesitating. It's almost as if the teeth in the nylon is slipping. I tried a brand new antenna and nylon and it's just worse. I put grease - no avail. I'm perplexed.
on my car, the antenna motor runs but the actual mast doesnt move and easily just pulls right out. As of now, i just cut the power to it so its not constantly running but i was wondering if this could be the nylon cable that couldve snapped and gotten stuck inside the motor?
My bolt is stuck and every time I twist it it doesn't come off. I think it may have to so with thw bottom piece of the old mast being jammed in as it snapped at the base. What can I do to get it pff sp I can replace the mast?
Thanks for the video, I have a '95 Buick Riviera that has a slightly bent mast, doesn't go all the way down or all the way up. I'll give it a try and see if I can pull it out and straighten it, hopefully that'll work...
I have a 2000 rx300 .i locked mysef out while changing batery i have an ignition key but has not been working for some time.how do i get in? Please help.
They say never to cut the nylon line (IDK why? unless you have to have a certain number of turns on the take up drum to hold tight) it seems like it makes sense? to make it retract all the way in if a (small) piece is broke off inside the take up drum not a perfect repair but a temporary one
I need to figure out why my 1991 Honda accord antenna want come up i got the right stereo kit for it i did not cut wires so why want it come up when i crank the car
