This game's "difficulty" in a nutshell.... losing 3 bars of armor +20% health to a single tyranid warrior shooting you while you are swinging your weapon for 2 seconds.
Appreciate the awesome playthrough. I think 19:00 this part is where the assault class struggles. Clearing out small mobs(with no tyranids warrior) is way harder than it should be. That’s why chaos marine operations are hell for this class.
This is a power fist problem more than an assault problem tbh, it's AOE for your ground pound is terrible and it's charge attack is absolute cheeks(Even the slightly better falco punch version if you use the top tree). A Thunder Hammer would have cleaned that group up instantly, power fist is usable but I'd go as far to say it's the worst melee weapon in game currently.
@@FirstTourGuardsman I noticed that there are weapons that do great against Tyranids and great against chaos. Thunder hammer is great against tyranids but the chaos usually can teleport out of smash or the swarming Tzaangors (the little guys with shields) can block and the fist goes through them like a hot knife into butter as it is faster and breaks the block.
Depends on how you build in my opinion, assault can dominate small mobs with a good thunder hammer and a build that focusses on maximising horde control with your jump pack, if you get nice dense mobs you can jump pack like 5 or 6 times if you’re picking the jumps right. What assault really struggles with is mass numbers of powerful ranged enemies which every class does to some degree but assault in particular because of the lack of a primary weapon.
I love the Hive Tyrant fight, but man does it highlight the two massive issues with Assault: 1) You can’t animation cancel melee attacks to initiate a dodge, so the melee Assault class can’t, you know, melee things. Every big hit you take is entirely because you were punching before an unblockable attack even began and couldn’t get out of it to dodge. 2) How god awful melee damage is. Even when you landed the charge up ground quake it does… a tiny sliver of health. Thank the Emperor for gun strikes cus you just cannot meaningfully dps by hitting things. Melee is such low damage in general, and it’s no where as painful as on the power fist. Masterful gameplay, fantastic video. But when someone this good plays this well, it leaves no room for the game to hide any flaws.
your right but i think i heard of a work around for attack cancel. parry can cancel an attack but then you are parrying so i guess you have to pre emptively parry cancel then dodge. im not sure if dodge can interrupt a parry but if it can them the control sequence becomes less demanding. im just way impressed hes mastered the melee dodge for majoris and extremist. most folks are so used to parrying that the orange attacks at point blank hit them. im hoping maybe after a few thousand hours of game play i can get to that skill level.
I can just imagine after hearing them call out about the explosives for the 10th time while fighting off the horde, the scene with Barbosa from pirates “I’m a little busy at the moment!”
kills wouldn't be so high if he had players with him either. Those meltas would have showed the real power disparity between these classes. Assault was my first class I maxed but melee in this game is basically a pillow fight. You legit hurt your team by picking this class.
Absolutely love the powerfist. Did this mission on solo Ruthless as Bulwark and it was tense. May Khorne smile upon this slaughter as he did mine, brother
GJ. I have the same perk trees for both assault and the weapons, with the only difference is that I prefer the pistol with extra ammo. Gotta say one thing about assault: he really shines on high levels, both as a class and his weapons (hammer and fist). Low level assault and hammer / fist less than "relic" - is quite a problem. That's why many people give up on assault, because you really need to suck it up, until he really gets good.
man if the powerfist is somewhere near like Eternal Crusade where ground slam will send minoris and majoris flying would be glorious. i hate that even with charged attack some majoris just shrug it off like it just a wind powerfist with assault is my favorite
I hate how everyone ignores Those parts. Those of us who like thunder hammer, power fist and other heavy melee weapons can't pretend that we didn't see it. Melee weapons should do more damage /dps than ranged. And heavy melee weapons should do more damage than light melee ones.
well played. love your use of dash attack and even dodge parry, your awareness it is excellent, and your use of ground slams is exemplary. how many hrs have you put in?
I love the assualt and whilst its slow recharge time does hold it back if you learn to play it properly and not spam it then he is really versatile and powerful. Plus the power hammer is absolutely fucking awesome
i can’t tell for sure if you’re using the perk for +100% jump pack damage with a reduced radius but it looks like you are. anyways the perk is a trap. the class is good at hoard clear with the standard radius and becomes far weaker at hoard clear with the radius reduced. you’re basically creating a weakness just to get a damage bonus that isn’t even worthwhile. the emperor protects!
Having Maxed Assault myself i can tell you the biggest factor in all of this that makes this possible, is ALWAYS take a fencing weapon, forget about the perfect dodges, parry is way better.
@@aquacandela3705 Try to line up the animation swinging out with the enemy's attack connecting. It's all timing, watch the enemy animations as they tend to have exaggerated tells.
How is your FOV so wide and why aren't you getting the gunstrike camera? i noticed you only get it on exceute gunstrikes. Not on the normal parry or dodge gunstrikes which is the most risky because you aren't invincible
Assault is all about heavy attacking mobs for gun strikes, and diving on elites. I know it might look fun to wave clear, but as an assault you really need to be diving enemy gun lines and elites.
Power fist seems to have the speed and range of combat knife but also the chainsword's ability to recover contested health using charged attacks. Interesting weapon
Nice, I play bulwark and I managed to do a few ruthless run (never chaos missions tho). And I love how the powerfist look but its too slow and I cant manage to ake it work like you do. So I just end up using only the powersword
Hate that this only got suggested to me cuz i max leveled it with much success. Literally same set ups except i sacrifice the aoe of ground pound for 100% more dmg because unlike hammer, fist is more a dueling weapon than aoe so you ASSAULT your targets hard and fast. Also suggest 20% faster recharge on jetpack over on kill as yes you can refill it kinda in groups but thats hammers job, and most of your kills arent coming from ground pound. Pound into execution doesnt count either
@@EbonFang_92 Only thing I can think of is it should get more contested health and the perks that buff it are only on heavies, which aren't that smart on the hardest difficulty, you're lucky not get away with 2
So is it normal for Assault to not get camera zoom in during gunstrike? He only gets the zoom in on execute gunstrikes. His FOV is wide open during normal gunstrikes which is where most people get hit because they can't see oncoming attacks
I enjoy playing it. Don't get me wrong. But the assault not being able to do shit against neuro or zoanthropes is absolute dogshit work by the developer. Dogshit. I've dumped full relic lasfusil and relic secondary into a ruthless neuro with a sniper and it lived...honestly...dogshit balancing. Absolute dogshit. It's sad to have such glaring downsides to an actually fun game.
When you have it on your blast radius is halved in size. This works at odds with the perk that gives you 10% jet pack charge for every enemy you hit with ground pound.
I might actually take it if I use power fist more in the future because it's base AOE for ground pound is so terrible already, but overall your ground pound's main use should be horde clear/repositioning and the extra damage is completely not needed vs Tryanids and the Tzaangors just need you to charge slightly longer.
@@Xero_KaiserDidn’t carry. But they definitely got aggro off of him. If he was solo and thus was the *only* target for the enemy to attack, it would be tremendously harder.
@@miles6120 It is impossible to not have any teammates though, since there's no friendly fire, and trying to bait your bots to get attacked does not work, since the AI tends to focus mostly on the player and not the bots.
Vs tyranids only slightly since their difficulty doesn't come from their numbers, it's how their warriors are positioned. The more warriors you get the more executes you're getting and more synapse bursts and as an assault/bulwark you're basically immortal in melee vs nids as long as you have a majoris to feed you armor. The most obnoxious part in this entire mission was when it decided to endlessly throw minoris solo against me since the power fist is terrible vs gaunts compared to hammer/chainsword. Hive tyrant add spawns would be the hardest thing here, fighting Chaos is where no bots would make the biggest impact since terminators are relentless.
@@FirstTourGuardsman The worst imho is when you have a horde of hormagaunts and they put a crap load of spike throwers mixed with snipers and spore launchers.
