The Sharper Turtle provides concise (4-8 min.) software tutorials for video editing software (PowerDirector - Edius - Media Composer First - Premiere Elements), Office products and other applications.
This is a topic that I wish you would step beyond the software and do a tut on microphones. You do so much by way of narration that microphone selection had to be of importance to you. I have 4 different mics of varying quality including the one in my external Logitech computer camera. Do you have some form of screen in front of your mic? Is you mic on a stand or hand held? Can you prevent external noise in the room where you record your audio?
Chris, This is a great idea! I wish I had the capital to use some medium priced or high priced microphones. Unfortunately, I'm limited to the best I can find on the lower end of the market. I will to a tutorial on what I'm experienced with. My son runs an audio studio [StudioAmericana.com] in Minneapolis that focuses on podcasting and is an expert in this field. He was in broadcasting for some time and board operator for a national talk radio guy as well. I might even interview him for those who have more resources than I do. Thanks for the great idea, Chris! --Jim
You have to have a audio interface which of course looking at my profile I do. I’m trying to figure out how to see if there’s a way like in OBS studio to use my audio software to record voice over. Or how do you choose microphone when it’s coming from a interface?
Matt, I don't understand your question. What do you mean about an audio source "coming from an interface"? Can you help me better visualize what you are asking? Thanks.--Jim
@@SharperTurtle ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-t5lp67SZ2dM.html This video of mine explains better. A audio interface is what you use to connect microphones into your computer that have EXR inputs. It’s how you do a live webcast. I already finished my newest video.
@@SharperTurtle Thanks I did that a long time ago I was just trying to figure out if I could record voice over like this into PD. You can record voice over but not directly from my audio software like that. Usually you would record voice over and then add b roll but my newest video I was really installing a kitchen pot holder rack with bad instructions and believe it or not, first time I didn’t find one video on RU-vid. I’ll send you the link
If you are looking to do voice over, click on the three dots (...) below the bottom icon on the left. That should open the voice-over recording room. (Or press the F10 function key.) They moved this icon to a subcategory after the original tutorial was produced. --Jim
I'm a huge follower of your tutorials. They have taught me a lot! So I bought a mic .... but my voice is nowhere near as satisfying! Do you have a tutorial on voice changing techniques?
Alan, Most of us who record don not have "announcer" voices. There are some tools in AudioDirector that you can use to change the pitch of your voice, but it's difficult not to make it sound funny. It may seem counterintuitive, but I'd encourage you to be comfortable with your voice and trust that your listeners will be comfortable with you. If you don't speak to fast or mumble or record in a place where there is lots of echo or background noise captured by your microphone, you will be better than 75% of the audio out there. Just a few thoughts. --Jim
Jim, toward the end, you mentioned the voice icons. I didn't quite follow your elimination explanation. I've got 50+ clogging up my clip screen library. Could you explain again how to get rid of them but retain their use. Thank you!
Bill, Thanks for giving me an easy question. You have several options.1. If you want to remove them from your media room temporarily just click on the icon at the top of the media room that is the music symbol. This will turn the display of audio files on and off.2. If you want to see the location of the captured file so you can rename, edit, or delete it, then RIGHT click on the icon of the audio file and choose "open file location" . This will take you to the file and drive where you are storing these files. You can rename or delete the files you see there. Just remember that if the file is currently in use by PD you cannot rename or delete it unless you close the PD program or any other program that is using it. Hope this helps --Jim
I don't know how to reset the numbering. But you can right click on the audio file in the media room or on the timeline and choose "Change Alias". This will allow you to rename the file to anything you like. --Jim
when i record voiceover it records with lots of humming sound in background . how to adjust that plz ? also i want my voice leads the music sound . how to adjust volumes plz
I'm not an audio expert, but it sounds like you have some kind of feedback loop in your system. The humming frequency is often a consequence of that. You might try searching "audio hum" on the internet and see what you can discover. I can't troubleshoot it effectively for you from here. --Jim
So you don't see anything in your microphone track and you don't have a capture.wave file added to your media room when you click on the red button? You might try using the ALT+R key combination to start and stop recording from your microphone and see if you get the same result. --Jim
