I remember listening to "when worlds collide" on repeat while playing Final Fantasy VII when I was a kid. Now, I sit in my garage with my PTSD while this song is on repeat. Life really is a comedy.
Ironically Final Fantasy XIV boss Sephirot theme, actually sounds like "When Worlds Collide". PM5K got a bit annoyed with it lol. I hope you're better!!!
@@Zach-ju5vi LOL No no, the song itself was not in the game. Sephirot's theme kinda sounded like the song, and Spider got a little angry about it lmao. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-P9f44iJftVM.html
This is the best song this band has ever done. This song hits hard when you realize what he's saying. Loved this song as a kid but the impact of the lyrics never hit me until I was a little older and I realized that the world is far from a perfect place. Thank you PM5K for the years of inspiration.
We all have to figure that out sometime. My first memory of that was music related. It was when my parents got divorced in the early 80s and I ran off with a friend to see Black Flag. At the show they played a ten minute obnoxious song that was supposed to drive out anyone who wasn't a fan. I thought about life during that song.
I dont know who listens to music made by, hwhyte males, in 2020. O mean, other than white supremacists that is. This guy is a white supremacist, amiright?
I was so happy I rediscovered this song. I haven't heard it in like 20 years then I heard it on a Spotify Playlist and it brought back so much Nostalgia. They don't make music like they used to.
I remember all my friends who liked Powerman back in the day HATED this album when it came out. I was the only one amongst us that seriously loved it. Still to this day, it's great.
gwarriorfromhell it was ok, but it wasn’t the same. I remember this and Sevendust seasons really disappointing me around the same time. Both albums took time to digest
I really hated this album at the time too. I even went so far as to join their forum with the name UnTransform. Free eventually grew on me (the rest of the album not so much), but it still doesn't touch the heights of TTSR or Anyone For Doomsday for me.
This song actually makes a good explanation for people who are spoiled. They are free to do what they want, but they dont know who they are or let themselves see what they need to see.
To expand on that line of thought, I've always interpreted the "can't see what you need to see" bit as taking things for granted; when you have it all, you don't stop to think about the needs or wants of others
@@StoneWeevil I always thought it was about working a lame job when you can be whatever you want. So you're living free but are you really "FREE" since you cant do what you want. YOu cant see what you need to see inside a factory or cubical.
i think it's talking about being your truself. despite what others think. speaking your mind. not being afraid to disagree. have different opinions . not having to smile if u don't feel like it. to pretend to like something you don't/
@banderas2000 I feel like that is also a big part. Sometimes even if we are free, we choose not to be, since we are too anxious of consequences that may not even be real
This came out at the same time I graduated high school. Back then, we were listening to bands like Rob Zombie, Limp Bizkit, Korn, Disturbed, Static X, Godsmack, and these guys, while burning CDs, and chatting with friends on AIM. Those were some of the greatest moments in my life.
Hey, Powerman 5000, I bought this album on day one. I was so sad when I saw critics rip this album into pieces. At first listen, I just enjoyed the music. Then, I went back and studied the lyrics. This is a really deeply written album. Case in point: FREE is a great song with deep meaning. Are we as Americans really free? I haven't felt free in a long time. Every tv, film, media and so is trying to control how we think. As a result, my generation truly feels lost. We are so connect with smart phones, social media and bs... that we have become slave. There are a lot of really great tracks on the whole album. It is very personal and I hold it in high regard. Thank you powerman 5000. I appreciate this art.
I’ve been listening to this song a lot since I’ve got out of the military.I’m surviving fine and well but that’s all I’ve really been doing. I need to be living on top of surviving. What is the point of being free if you can’t be what you want to be. So push a little harder work harder so you can really live free. That’s my two cents for anyone out there trying to get ahead.
I saw these guys live on the tour, got my album signed, and had a great meet and greet. They killed it live with a massive pit. Easily one of the best concerts I ever went to.
It dawns on me today that the outfit Spider is rocking, particularly in this video (although I recall him pretty much always looking like this) is pretty much my exact definition of cool, something that I never consciously realized before.
I remember this album was like the soundtrack to my 7th grade year of school. Blasted It! LIVING SO FREE IS A TRAGEDY WHEN YOU CANT BE WHAT YOU WANNA BE!
2019 now and it's still a great song!. Nothing beats the classics and btw I'm using the same scale as they do for cars. If it's 20yrs old it's now considered a classic!. LOL
As a teenager I never really cared about the lyrics of this song, I just liked the sound. Listening to this now, I'm actually surprised this holds up so well. It's not like it's some life changing revelation, but somehow this feels really sincere in opposite to so many other lyrics.
2024,and I listen to this song everyday on my way to school because I don't have much friends to talk with so singing to this song for me is like talking to someone.
@@cindymaxa942 Yeah, I shown some of powerman 5000's and other metal artist's songs to few of my friends.. They said they like it despite it isn't something they would usually listen to.. So I consider the other fans including us who listen to this really lucky, because this music taste is pretty unique and powerful, making us more unique and creative. 🤘
So true that's why I hate this goddamn world and I'm sick of this fucking Society I'm so sick and tired of all these goddamn people telling me to cut my hair !!!
Everybody needs to start their own fire Everybody needs a riot of their own Everybody needs to be something that they are not Everybody needs to go it alone Because living so free is a tragedy When you can't be what you wanna be Living so free is a tragedy When you can't see what you need to see Okay! In all the time spent hanging on to anything In all the time spent knowing that they're wrong In all the time wasted, stolen back, innocent You won't get a second more, so move it along Living so free is a tragedy When you can't be what you wanna be Living so free is a tragedy When you can't see what you need to see Living so free is a tragedy When you can't be what you wanna be Living so free is a tragedy When you can't see what you need to see Wishing and hoping and thinking, it's you Who's got this all under control Never a minute has passed you all by When they haven't invaded your soul It's not something you can hold It's not something you own It's not something you can buy or steal You've got it when you're alone Being free is a tragedy When you don't know yourself Being free is a tragedy When you don't who you are Living so free is a tragedy When you can't be what you wanna be Living so free is a tragedy When you can't see what you need to see Living so free is a tragedy When you can't be what you wanna be Living so free is a tragedy When you can't see what you need to see Let's go! Hey, hey, hey All right man This is the story of your life, man
I saw them in concert at a small nightclub a long time ago. They were awesome, but no one went to see them except for me and two female friends. There was almost no one there so I got ridiculously drunk, tried to start a mosh-pit with 3 people and had to be dragged home. Good times!

Same, used to listen to this back in High School in 2013. And to think I felt like such an "old school head" listening to this back then… I feel even older now.
@@DarthKillerRecargado oh man, i listened to these guys in high school in the mid 90s! of course, not this song, it came out later. I just recently saw someone with a powerman 5000 tshirt on, and figured I'd look them up on youtube and see if i still enjoyed it. I do! :D
I did in 2001when they were touring with Sevendust and the OG Drowning Pool when Dave was still alive. My friend got me backstage and met all the bands and got autographs and even blazed with Lajon from Sevendust and Spider One. One of the best days of my life.
Back in the day on the local radio station, one of the band member's mother lived in the area and would occasionally call in, the DJ's called her Powermom 5000. Always remember that random fact when listening hearing their songs, haha.
+savannah welch yeah. like in only 20xD but i like this music. even if im more a hardcore person. powerman5000 does have great songs :D too bad my generation loves pigeon shit like JB 😐😐😐😐
This song is probably one of the best songs you guys have done. It really got a nice beat, solid lyrics, & makes me want to be productive. It not only stimulates my body it stimulates my imagination.
Thank you, dudes, for turning my life around at a young age. Was getting picked on a lot in the dorm first two years of attending boarding school, then third dorm year I rediscovered Powerman 5000. Went from "two bit criminal", a over exaggeration but I did start to steal early on, to back to wanting to make friends and make sure they made it through the day.
Strangely Prophetic… you got it right from the start! Thanks for getting me through the hard times… we have the same vision, Idk why everyone doesn’t think like a FREE people, but it’s been a long time coming!‼️🙏🏻🗽🇺🇸🤴🏻🌏👼🏻
This is probably one of the best songs they ever wrote, I don't remember It making waves in the music scenes tho sadly. Timing was bad I guess because this song is sick
Sadly I bet if a band like Rage against the machine did this song it would of been popular the second it came out. But I wouldn't have anyone else besides spider sing this song and the way the band does the instrumentals
I’d only ever heard When Worlds Collide, and Pop Goes the Supernova (before I began listening to more) by this band but I’m fast discovering they’re one of the few hard rock bands who have lots of songs with good heavy rhythm where a lot of hard rock bands are heavy, but their riffs lack catchy rhythm. Powerman 5000 seem to be a fantastic band and I had no idea they have so many albums - I mean they have lots.
This was the fucking tune when riding dirt bikes in the woods when I was 9-11 years old lol we literally felt so free no parents and just miles of logging roads and trails here in NW Oregon…Truly miss those days of exploring not just our county but our selves
LETS GO! What is best about this is that Powerman 5000 isn't his real name, but a band he started himself, he ran it on his own. when he was someone he was not, when he decided to go it alone...it's the story of his life man.
