@dc rainmaker Would you recommend the Power Pod? I'm in a situation where my FSA Omega crank isn't compatible with Stages or other left side crank meters that I know of & pedal type meters start @ $599.00
I know of another power meter that works similar to this Power Pod, I read that its not accurate when you get off the saddle. Is this accurate at all times? This is very important. Kickstarter closes in 7days so would like to know but can't find any info
+DC Rainmaker I am in the market for my first power meter, I have been doing a lot of research and narrowed it down to two. The stages and powerpod, I am really liking the price on the powerpod, but I been reading a lot of mix review on the powerpod some say it's not a real power meter its just guessing your out put and that I should go for the stages. But watching your review it seem to be on par with the rest of them. Do think I should get the powerpod over the stages for a first time power meter? Thanks.
For the power pod how does it know when you are coasting and when you are pedaling. Is it synced to a cadence sensor? And also what happens when you ride into the wind?
Without a cadence sensor, i believe PowerPod uses the built-in accelerometer to determine if you are pedaling or coasting. Occasionally though, when i am coasting, PowerPod thinks i am pedaling. So it's best to pair it with a cadence sensor. In theory, when you ride into a headwind, it's supposed to figure that out. But my experience using PowerPod on a windy day was not good.
my powerpod sleeps most of my rides, even if I wake the unit by pressing the button. also, the battery last only 2-3 hr max. I should not have ordered another one,,,,,stay away, I emailed and called the velocomp...only answering machine no email reply....
This appears to work, but seems like some weird black magic. How can it tell just from wind and speed if your coasting? Up hill vs downhill vs flat? I mean, reviews don't lie, but I'd like to have some high level understanding of the magic involved....
+Donnie, the Power Pod has a accelerator, wind pressure sensor, elevation sensor & speed sensor. thus it can tell if you are pedaling which would show a slight acceleration on each pedal stroke compared to coasting which with zero acceleration.
