Here in Argentina is sometimes used, it started as a way of mocking mexican slang, but it kinda sticked to our way of speaking and people aren't surprised at all lmao
the question about papi is so funny because i am from venezuela, here papi and mami are used: - for flirting - for your parents (i call my mom mami still, it's just normal even when you're an adult) - similar to words like "honey" - which leads to it being used codescendingly too multipurpose words lol also i get jacob a lot with the language thing! languages have been fascinating to me since i was a kid, and i'm always excited about closing the language gap. i currently speak spanish (natively), english (fluent), japanese (conversational), and i'm currently learning chinese too i am one of those people that learned english through very unconventional means tm i learned by through LEAGUE OF LEGENDS lmfao i was like 12??? 13?? and there was no latam servers yet so the NA server was a mix of actual north americans and the entirety of latin america, and i had to learn english to try to communicate with the eng speaking players, it was a bit crazy because i even made friends like that lol i aided that learning by watching youtubers like pewdiepie, markiplier, and cryaotic (unfortunate) i ended up passing highschool english without having to study a single bit bc thanks to games i was just more advanced than everyone else, and my english teachers HATED me

6:45 I'm from Mexico and we do say "que padre" which is kinda similar word wise, but it means something different. If I translated it to English it would be something like "how cool". I've never heard someone say "que papi" tho lmao.

So, about learning languages with let's players, that is very much true. I am Brazilian and I learned the basics of English with videogames, and I really started fully understand the language when I started watching RU-vid videos. You and oddly enough TheOddOneIsOut were the one that taught me the most about English (BTW James is the entry point for me cuz all his videos have English subtitles, and most of them have portuguese). The only thing I still struggle at is speaking (both formulating sentences and trying to have a better accent), and I have trouble writing sometimes, but I am now trying to improve both of that issues with discord! Joining servers and speaking to people all around the world has been honestly the highlight of my experience learning English and I am so glad now that I did learn the language

as someone who is Puerto Rican, all the different dialects and slang for each Spanish speaking country is so interesting to me. Even here in PR there’s so much slang I don’t even know how to explain in English
