What an incredible post. Thanks Emma. My PPPD journey started a year and half ago after I got my first dose of Moderna. Dizziness, tinnitus, headaches, jaw pain, ear pain are amongst my symptoms. I’ve now unfortunately developed severe anxiety. But, I’m doing ok. Exercise, diet, vestibular therapy and psychology all helping. However I can’t stress how meditation and neuroplasticity is essential for recovery. Thanks again Emma. Looking forward to your next post. Stay strong guys 😎👊🏻

I'm noticing that every time my symptoms get really bad I start having really negative Emotions like frustration, annoyance, hopelessness, anger, "I’m gonna be like this forever" etc. but when my symptoms aren't too bad it’s easier for me to be positive. For example today - I noticed today when my symptoms were really bad I was back in the mindset of feeling like I can’t heal myself but still telling myself positive affirmations (but I know none of it works if i don't truly believe it) The thing is, I do believe it when I'm feeling less symptomatic. How would you go about this/have any advice?
@balanceyourlifenow1651
@balanceyourlifenow1651 3 года назад
Hi, that's a very relatable question and all part of being human. No one can be positive and upbeat all of the time. Just be easy with yourself and if at times you feel like you're losing hope just know this is all just part of the process. Acceptance is much better than negativity. Be extra kind and forgiving to yourself on those days and rest assured better days are on the way. When you're in a happy space and feeling good, that's the time to enjoy it! You really can't get it wrong..stop judging yourself and realise this is all a part of the healing process 🙏🏼❤

You literally describe me! And it makes me feel better to know that there are other people going through the exact same thing as me, even though it sucks for all of us. I challenged myself this week to not say anything negative about my symptoms for a whole day, regardless of how I feel. Day one was alright, I really tried to accept that this is my reality for now but that doesn’t mean it will be that way forever. They too were slightly harder but I still managed to not get swept up in negative emotions when I feel the symptoms, (which are 24/7 for me). Accepting it seems to be the first step... and reminding myself that I have come out of the awful days before and I can do it again.

it's the same thing for me too. The past week I was feeling fine. I thought it went away. 2 days ago It came back really hard. I feel depressed, angry, etc... again and I feel my life is passing by and it's like I can't do anything about it.. I can't study, some days can't sleep properly. I feel so tired, and that's been going on for 4 months now. PS: I am 23 years old and I had the same thing 3 years ago when I was 20. It kept going for 5 months... and eventually, it went away I don't even remember how and why (because I was trying not to think about it). I had dizziness, blurry vision sometimes when I move my head, feeling my heartbeat on my lower back and back of my neck. It's like I was nodding my head, but in reality it stays steel.. I have the same symptoms again from the end of February 2021, it's been like hell the past 4 months for me. Even thought I know it will go away eventually I can't really deal with it some days.

Its a mixture really its either not there at all and completely symptom free or a very low level so I hardly notice it and it doesn't bother me. Occasionally I get little spikes thats more noticeable in higher stress situations but I can respond in a way where I can get it under control straight away and the symptoms die back down again. Healing really does take a lot of time and I've had to have a lot of patience. I hope you find your path to healing too 🙏🏼

Would you be able to tell us how long of practicing neuroplasticity did you #1 start to feel relief #2 be completely healed? I just want to hear a baseline. I know it's different for everyone.
@balanceyourlifenow1651
@balanceyourlifenow1651 3 года назад
I would say about 18 months to really see significant improvements. For me recovery was very slow. I didn't commit to practicing Neuroplasticity, I tried it and kept coming back to it. I'd never heard of it before and wasn't convinced it would work. I'm also not completely dizziness free, but I am significantly better. I can go for days without feeling dizzy at all and go places that used to make me dizzy and now feel fine. But if I'm run down, I'll, tired, stressed, anxious, the dizziness sometimes does come back. So Neuroplasticity is a process I still practice daily. As you say though timescales are different for everyone 😁

Can low blood sugar trigger it? As that's the only discernable trigger for mine but sometimes it comes on after a meal. I was told it was damage from an infection but no-one has an answer for the blood sugar thing. I also find when I think "oh my ears have been better recently" and BOOM! Bad attack for weeks
@balanceyourlifenow1651
@balanceyourlifenow1651 3 года назад
Hi Lucy, talking from personal experience here but yes I believe low blood sugar can trigger it. It does with me anyway, and still to this day. If I let myself get hungry or overdo it with exercise and don't eat properly after, I get lightheaded and dizziness, much more than before I had the PPPD as I know that can be a normal reaction too. So I would definitely say there is a link. Obviously it's not always the case of having one trigger, sometimes you might not even know what triggered it, the dizziness can just pop up out of nowhere. I can't actually give you an answer as to why the blood sugar thing triggers it. I'm wondering if it's possibly to do with the survival part of our brains? I developed quite bad anxiety as a result of the dizziness. When I hadn't eaten and started to feel hungry, i think that survival part of my brain automatically made me feel anxious and that would trigger the dizziness. To the point I really had to focus on managing that for a while. I'm not sure if anxiety is a part of your journey, but as I'm not a Doctor I can only offer what made logical sense in my circumstances.
@watermelonineasterhay
@watermelonineasterhay 3 года назад
Aha maybe I do have PPPD! It's annoying crashing from meal to meal isn't it. I think cause I've had it 2 years that I've built that association into my brain and rewarding the dizziness pathway by eating. Did vestibular rehab help you?
@balanceyourlifenow1651
@balanceyourlifenow1651 3 года назад
@@watermelonineasterhay yes! I can relate to that so much. For me I think it started because when I felt dizzy I would feel light headed and at first when I never knew what was going on I always thought maybe I was hungry due to the light-headedness and that food could make that go away. You can then rely on that technique as a way to cope. Next thing you know your brain has associated the feeling of hunger with feeling dizzy because its part of our survival mechanism and we need to eat to survive. This happened by complete mistake for me but it was very frustrating. This was something that developed over time (and has since got better again) which actually proves the brain can change and adapt (Neuroplasticity!) I have read a few books that talk about the relationship to food and needing it to feel safe. You've heard of people that comfort eat right? It's a similar thing I guess. I mean I'm not a Doctor but it's how I've made sense of it. I don't comfort eat or have a bad relationship with food but it was my go to at an attempt to feel that sense of ease and safety.
@balanceyourlifenow1651
@balanceyourlifenow1651 3 года назад
@@watermelonineasterhay vestibular rehab never helped me 😢 instead I found lots of mindfulness, calmness, stillness practice helped instead. I needed to recreate that sense of control and safety, which is very common for those with PPPD. I've heard that VR has worked for lots of people though, so always worth a try

Hey emma! How could I get over the fear of going outside because of PPPD? I have severe anxiety too
@balanceyourlifenow1651
@balanceyourlifenow1651 3 года назад
Hey! It's a tough one to answer without knowing you personally. You have to ask yourself what it is your afraid of? And remember anxiety is a response in your body where you feel threatened and unsafe, hence you need to find ways to feel safe and secure. So maybe practicing this at home first is a good place to start. Then slowly build up to going outside. Maybe sit outside at first, lots of deep breathing and remaining calm. Then a short walk. Build it up from there in your own time and at your own pace. Working on both the dizziness and anxiety is equally as important because one affects the other! ❤

@balanceyourlifenow1651

PPPD is dizziness 50% of the time or more for 3 months or longer. VM can coincide with PPPD so it could be that you have both. You can still heal though whether you have one or both

@balanceyourlifenow1651
@balanceyourlifenow1651 3 года назад
@@AL-ru3nk VM is typically a dizziness that comes and goes, and can be triggered by a migraine or headaches and sensitivity to light, flashing lights etc. VM could also also develop off the back of normal migraines over the years. Also the dizziness with VM could feel more like vertigo (although again not always) whereas with PPPD the dizziness is more inside your own head so less spinning and more a sense of motion. There are lots of similarities though so it could be difficult to diagnose one from the other. I think I actually have undiagnosed VM due to the light sensitivity! This is just my opinion based on what I have read but of course to get an official diagnosis you would need to discuss this with your Doctors.

@@balanceyourlifenow1651 Hi thank you for replying so fast. I have had vertigo pretty bad about 3 times in my life where the room spins and comes up and hits me in the face. The dizziness that I have now feels like im on a boat especially when I sit its like im swaying and rocking and its always come on when I have been very anxious and stressed. I dont have light sensitivity. I first got the motion feeling when I was in high school and was stressed due to being bullied and had to have 6 months off school cause it was really bad. 40 years later i got it again in 2019 and had to go to hospital 4 times in two weeks and dr did some tests and ruled out VM and told me it was just anxiety and it went away but I had it on and off a bit until about 5 months ago when my stress and anxiety escalated due to family issues and my car breaking down and an assault on me that happened in my backyard as I am shut up in the house unable to go out and have developed a low grade agoraphobia. My balance is bad at times too and my tinnitus has gotten worse. When I yawn my ears crackle and when I blow my nose i can go dizzy and my ear pops. I think I might have a blocked tube. I also have developed BPV last year and cant lay flat without feeling dizzy making tests unbearable. I am so scared that I am stuck with this for life now or if it goes away it will always be there in some form or another if I get stressed. I never had it this bad before and it makes me anxious. I cant live like this much longer its so bad I can hardly sit still. Also worried i may have MDDS. I have the dizzy head pretty much all day every day and its sometimes worse than others especially when I am anxious or stressed. :(. Is off balance a part of PPPD? Ive never had balance issues before I got this but sometimes it worse than other times especially in the dark.
