ABOUT THIS VIDEO
This week we are covering the subject of whole arm movement, or muscular movement in handwriting, also know as the Palmer Method of Business Handwriting.
Implementing whole arm movement into my left handed cursive in a forward direction has resulted in some unexpected outcomes. Firstly, I have found that movements required in order to practically use whole arm writing are actually easier than they are with the right hand. My right hand is still decades ahead of the my left hand, however, if I continue to practice this style of left handed writing I may actually surpass the abilities of my right hand.
I highly recommend that you give this style of writing a shot and continue to work to fully embrace it as your primary style of writing.
Pay very close attention to the placement of your arm as you practice and remember that the writing arm stays in its fixed position and the right hand will move your paper across your writing zone. This collaboration between hands is very important.
Do note that my position shown is what is most comfortable for me. If you do not find my position comfortable you will simply have to experiment with the placement of your forearm. You do not want your shoulder to be pushed up in any way and rather want it to be relaxed. This relaxed style of writing is very different compared to a lot of the cramped writing positions taken up today. Correcting your positioning may actually be the most difficult part of implementing this new style of writing.
