Most English native speakers I have met in Germany are not really interested in learning the German language ... so thanks a lot for your intend to learn our language.

I plan to one day be fluent. My partner is German and so is his family. It would be disrespectful to not learn the language, it’s just going to be a long road to get there

I also heard complaints from foreigners (not only native English speakers) that not all services (customer services, etc.) are available in English. I really don't get it. If you move to another country and only plan to stay for a year or two, I think it's OK if you don't want to learn the local language. But expect some communication problems and don't complain about them. If you plan to stay long term: I think you really need to learn the local language. Otherwise you will always run into communication problems, your job opportunities and your ability to make friends will be limited. Even if you find a job where you can speak your language and friends that speak your language: you will always feel like the foreigner and not really at home, if you can't communicate with a lot of people around you.

I think for people that learn German as a foreign language, the articles are the worst part, as there really is no rule when to use which. You really have to remember the correct article for each word. There are even words where us German native speakers argue which article is correct.

Oh no! The germans are backwards with numbers?? The danes are the same. I can speak swedish so i have a semi-understanding of danish and norwegian. But some words, especially numbers and I'm just stood there like "WTF did you just say"

It's actually more complicated than that. Up to 20, the numbers are similar to English. Above 20 we actually say five and twenty instead of twenty and five, for example. But this applies only to numbers up to 100. So 120 would be one hundred and twenty, not twenty and one hundred. And for numbers like 125 you would have the two systems combined. So 125 would be one hundred and five and twenty. But to be honest, the concept of the backwards numbers should not be that foreign to English speakers. I mean, they also say nineteen for example, not teennine.
