Thanks for the video, it helps a lot. 2:55 These yellow boxes exists in all the trams/buses to validate the ticket the first time?
@pletiplot
@pletiplot Год назад
Yes, these yellow boxes are in every tram, every bus, in every entrance of the metro, in the entrance of the funicular and at the ferry boats. In some trams there are some other bigger yellow boxes (along with the regular yellow boxes) which can vend you a ticket (which is validated automaticaly) but they cannot validate a ticket you already have. So don't be confused.

Since your'e using an iPhone, you might want to use the Apple maps. I was in Prague recently and it worked way better than Google maps. Would recommend this to every Iphone user! Also Citymapper should be mentioned.
@CZghost
@CZghost Год назад
Not all people have iPhone tho. I for example have an Android phone (yes, I'm too broke to afford an iPhone, and no, even with money I wouldn't buy an iPhone, I'm actually happy with more versatile and customizable system). So he correctly showcases Google Maps, because that's what majority of people will be using. It should also be noted that DPP (PID) has it's own app that lets you to search your trip, and yes, it does work with maps as well. But it's primarily meant for people living in Prague or visiting Prague regularily.

@bradbenson2774 Год назад
Thanks for the information, it was very helpful. I would have liked a little more on where to find validating machines. Do you need to validate before you board or can you validate as you board your first bus, tram, metro...?
@RealPragueGuides
@RealPragueGuides Год назад
Metro has the validating machines right at the entrance before escalators. Trams and buses have the validating machines directly in the vehicle. All the validating machines look the same - yellow colour with green light.
@CZghost
@CZghost Год назад
@@RealPragueGuides It should also be noted why it's that. Because with trams, buses (and nowadays also trolleybuses), the stop isn't considered a traffic area, only the vehicle itself. But it's different with metro. The only thing that is not considered a traffic area is the entrance hall of the station, which may or may not function as an underpassage (the entrance hall might be part of a building, or could be underground below the street, making an underpassage possible). The area with escalators that lead down to the station and the station itself is considered traffic area and you'll be fined if you don't have a valid ticket even if you don't board the actual train yet. It should also be noted that not all underground entrace halls function as a underpassage for the entire station. Some stations have multiple entrance halls, and in order to get across, you would need to go through the station, which you can't do without a valid ticket (and it doesn't make sense to simply buy a ticket just so you could pass under the street at the other side, that's not what the station is primarily used for). Also, not all stations are undeground. Underground stations are mainly under the city centre, and above ground stations are more common at the outskirts.

Useful. Some feedback/questions I had. Do you need to validate every day or once per ticket. If I use phone instead of ticket, do I need to tap/show this when I get on bus(same for ticket actually) or do you just need a valid ticket if inspectors ask to see.
@RealPragueGuides
@RealPragueGuides 10 месяцев назад
You validate once per ticket. If u use phone you need to activate the ticket in the phone 2 minutes before entering the vehicle. You can watch this video which explains mistakes tourists make: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-x-AqpbmKoW0.html

Oh, it should also be stated that strollers are banned on escalators (I noticed that someone behind you at 2:42 has a stroller on the escalator). Use elevator instead (if available). If there is no elevator available, stroller should be folded and carried in hand. That means your baby will need to be on foot. If your baby is too young to be on foot, don't use metro unless you're absolutely sure you can use an elevator in starting and target station. The reason behind this is because a stroller on escalators just asks for potentially lethal injuries. You wouldn't use escalators in a wheelchair, would you? The same goes for strollers.

hi guys, thanks for the information, I would like to ask about the 3 day ticket, can I use it on the metro or the bus or both? how much cost ? and how many times can I use it? is it with a limit or without? And where i can buy the cart ?
@RealPragueGuides

Hi. You can use the 3-day ticket on metro, bus and tram. It costs 330 czk. You validate it before entering the first vehicle and since the first validation you have exactly 72 hours to use Prague public transport. Please make sure to validate the ticket only once (not every time you enter the vehicle). We made a video “Mistakes tourists make when using Prague Public Transport) I recommend checking it out.

I would order Bolt or Uber. It depends on how many people and how much luggage. Hired car will be a little more but comes with extra service (like someone waiting at the gate with your name on board). If you decide to take Bolt just be aware you need to go to the upper level of terminal (there are two exits at two levels)

I had read somewhere that public transport was free for people over 70 years old. Planning to visit in September. I'm 86 years old. Will I need to buy transport tickets? If not, how will I be able to access metro without having a ticket to get through the turnstiles. Also, would be very interesting in hiring a good guide for a day or two. How can I contact you?
@RealPragueGuides
@RealPragueGuides 2 года назад
Hi. Yes public transport is free for people over 65 years old. All you need is to have id on you to prove your age. There are no turnstiles in Prague, you just freely enter the metro, it is a matter of chance whether you’ll be checked by the controllers. Hello Andres, no buses don't have these yet. You need to prebuy the ticket and validate it. The same goes for the metro. Only on trams you can buy the tickets using contactless card. (tram is what you will use mainly, if you stay in the center or close to the center)

So basically you validate the tiket only once? You do not validate everytime you take the bus or metro? Thank you!
@RealPragueGuides
@RealPragueGuides 2 года назад
Correct. If you validate the ticket twice it will be invalid. (Tourists sometimes do that)
@pletiplot
@pletiplot Год назад
You validate the ticket once. The time and date of the validation is printed on the ticket during validation. Then the ticket is valid for the whole period depending on the type of the ticket (30 minutes to 72 hours) no matter how often you change the line or type of vehicle. You may see people walking into the transport without validating anything - they either have a long term ticket (month or more) or they have their ticket validated in some other transport validation machine. If you validate it more time the time printid cease to be readable so the validation is voided.

You can register for it online at: karta.litacka.cz/login or personally in Magistrát Hl. Města Prahy building in Jungmannova Street. All you need is Passport photo, confirmation that you are student and your id and you are all set. Then you just charge it at specified places, for example at Můstek Station is at the Yellow line exit from the metro, or I.P.Pavlova. Go to the window where they sell tickets and passes and ask them to charge it (for a length of your choice). Then you just keep litacka on you and if a public transport control comes, you show it to them and that's it.

Thanks, yes public transport in the former eastern / Central European coutries are still working well and is cheap. That´s one good (anything else?) thing coming from the former Soviet-empire. Been using it a lot here in Prague of course. It´s even cheaper in Kiev, but that´s another story.... And yes amazing in Hong Kong, best in the world and rather cheap in such an expensive city. Prague is still very nice, just stay out of the old city and Charles bridge in holiday times! .

@pletiplot
@pletiplot Год назад
@@qqx154 Yes. Exactly. You need one ticket for way there and another for way back. You need to validate the second ticket just while starting the way back, it counts as an indpependet journeys. But for three journeys or if you want to travel a lot by small chunks of way, it is better to get the 24 hour ticket or 72 hour ticket. In Prague the airport is in the metropolitan zone so a normal 90 minutes ticket is OK for way from or to the airport (not valid on Airport expres - AE - which is a direct bus to the center and it is a bit more expensive).
