In 1978 my Grandmother was beginning to lose her memory. My mother had 7 siblings that all lived in NOLA where my grandparents also lived. While my grandmother was in a goos mental place she told my Grandad she wanted to come here to Chicago and spend some time with us (boy did she ever). Two additional things she wanted to do while here: 1. Go to a White Sox game (she loved baseball) 2. Meet Pastor Evans (she loved listening to him on the radio and tv). We tried several times to get an appointment to see him but to no avail. Finally, we drove to Fellowship after 2 days (Grandma waa determined). We were again told he was busy, just as we were turning..... he appeared. My mother explained how far she came, enjoyed listening to him and wanted to meet. Pastor Evans took us to his office, sat ans hels Grandma'a hand as they sung "There is Room at the Cross" and they talked a while. He took a picture with Grandma, gave her a hug, walked with us to our car and thanked Grandma for spending time with him. Awesome yet humble man of God. I believe they're still singing up there.
Baptist people shout too! We might not have the fancy footwork like the Pentecostal church, but you best believe that we know how to give God a praise. We got the tambourines, hand clapping, and foot stomping too!
You show right about that!!!!! I was born into the COGIC and at the age of 18 I left. I love the Baptist church for singing the hymns of the church while still being able to sing the new stuff, have good teaching, and most of all a love for God just like anyone else
The difference is that Baptists buck authentically while in this day and age too many members of the COGIC try to look cute when they shout. All about outward look and appearance.
Alright now my feet feeling light right now heyyyy God call us what you wanna whatever you want to call us it's all right we serving Jesus God is our father yes sir excuse me I got to go shout
i love church like this... i kinda sound baptist & cogic mix & when the holy ghost moves upon me that's the way i shout sometimes... that woman was very serious it wasn't fake @ all... GLORYYYY!!!!
AND DID A BEAUTIFUL JOB PLAYING IT..WAS THAT YOU ON THE VIDEO THEY SHOWED?YOU WAS NOT PLAYING.GOD BLESS YOU AND THE FELLOWSHIP FAMILY.Yall have had a rough past few months, with Rev.Clay and now the First lady passing.Praying for yall and know that Rev.Clay is always looking down on you.God Bless
as I said on a comment and another video of fellowship, everything changed since jenkins took over, and then jenkins retired in 2020 after Reverend Evins died, and a lot has changed since Sharp took over. Even that whole church got renovated, since jenkins took over.
Amen! I did not attend Fellowship, but I grew up in the Baptist church. One wild, shouting person could knock down a whole row. Especially in the choir.
I miss church like this. Say what y'all want, but it just ain't the same. All of this dressing for show and synthesizers and trying to dance all cute, please, folks have lost sight of this flat-footed good old-fashioned praise. This is when you would go to church on Sunday and look forward to coming back the following Sunday not to show off your outfit but to be in the presence of the Lord.
I totally agree with you, "MKD825". I belong to an Apostolic church (Apostolic Church of God in Chicago) and the late Bishop Arthur M. Brazier used to teach us that it denomination does not matter, just as long as Jesus Christ is being preached and teached. In fact, Rev. Clay Evans and Bishop Brazier were friends. They did not look at each like "you are a baptist preacher" and "you are an Apostolic Pentecostal preacher", they had fellowship in the Lord Jesus Christ!! May God bless you!
Chicago has the best churches, especially the Baptist ones. Because Chicago churches have choir, I live in Los Angeles and none of our churches have choir anymore. Now we're just down to praise teams, what happened Los Angeles?
Oh my God this is the way we use to have church. Yes I am in holiness but my God is in all the churches first of all,but that organ will put you in the mood for having good old fashion church.I certainly wish I was a part of this service here cause I would have been running just like I am about to do now see ya wheeeew glorrrry
Plus, that lady shouting towards was giving one of them good Baptist shouts to God. The type to where they try to hold you down, but they can't. Notice, somebody tried to help her down but she popped right on. She is shouting for real! She was definitely in the Spirit. She didn't stop shouting when the music was over. She kept on going. They better praise God!
Don't frown upon what the ladies are doing for the woman getting happy in this clip. You have to realize that things changed. When I was coming up in the '80s, people continued to "hold" shouters out of tradition, but it wasn't about suppressing the shout, it was more of a "courtesy" (i.e., so the shouter didn't bust his or her head open on a wall or a pew, or stamp on somebody's feet, or didn't throw her skirt over her head showing all her business).
same here....i'm n los angeles, they done went contemporary crazy. But when i lived in harlem we had good ole tarrying service style church(pilgrim cathedral, refuge temple, salvation&deliverance) ,just to name a few.
baby if they didnt hold her, she would of flew out that choir stand. fellowship didn't play. when the spirit hit, you didnt know where anyone would land.
It's always good to see the Baptist Praist the Lord Jesus. Now I wonder what would happen if they would really allow the Holy Ghost in Jesus name to over take them. That would be amazing.Much love to all of the Baptist
The spirit of the Lord is suppose to be in all the churches and everyone responeds different to the Holy Ghost so I don't care what church I'm in when the Holy Ghost falls on me Im gone are you with me
im baptiCOGICostal, and the church history tells us that the COGIC denomination was started out of the baptist when us baps reject manifestations of the holy ghost during service, but we still had a very spirited praise birthed out of slavery the majority of southeran slaves we baptist and then spread it to the north during the great migration WE ADDED OUR DANCES AND SPIRIT FROM THE MOTHERLAND TO THE TEACHINGS OF BAPTIST WHITES AND THIS IS THE PRODUCT
@@Untilhecomes85 and I said what I said, your comment is based on ignorance and narrow-shallowmindedness. The Holy Ghost isn't limited to foolish man-made denominations.
@@Untilhecomes85 of course it is... Most people these days hate to be corrected when they're wrong, and prefer to be willingly ignorant. Not surprising.
So true, nuns don't shout but how would many of our relationships with God hold up to theirs? We get so caught up in these outward shows of praise. This denomination dissing on RU-vid has been a real eye-opener for me. I really began to wonder what was being taught about Baptists in other churches, so much false information and mean-spirited ignorance. Since when did churches become fraternities?? We are not in competition here folks, let us celebrate our differences and not build walls.
i love them chicago and philly baptist folk cuz someway they have preserved the "old time" clara ward mahalia jackson dr watts meter hymn style of worship... i guess they kept it wit em after the GREAT MIGRATION. but its funny how im in NC and GA and cant find me some good ol' footstomping baptist church....lol
what church u go to in atlanta? i go to THE BODY OF CHRIST CHURCH in college park, ga, i was raised there i dont go there now cuz im in NC for college!
oh i wasnt replying to u if you thought so i agree with both of your comments! i believe that we need to stop concentrating on denomination and concentrate on christ....
Yes we have members who speak in tongues. Our own Rev York was one of the first to speak in tongues 1st Black Female Minister ordained by Rev.Evans and she believed in holiness n would tarry.
Kimberly Dostal Now that's ole school. The church at its birth was the church at its best. Let it sink in. U ever listen to Mr. West. Jesus Walks. Saint's knew something that would blow the minds of many. THE POWER OF GOD!!!!!!
Back then, when people used to get "real" happy, the nurses would be there just in case someone with high blood pressure or other conditions would need medical attention. Back in the old church, some people would fall out and faint in the spirit.
Fellowship had struture the nurses always sat in front ushers in the back Laymen by the doors Deacons and Trustees in the front Mothers Missionaries and Prayer Band 2nd 3rd n fourth rows each club had an assigned section on special days the nurses row on the left was the overflow altos so the nurses seats were reserved
