Love it! I felt like I was out on a little jaunt with you. Maritime radio looks similar to SOTA. Even if you didn't make a contact you're still in a beautiful place.

I've spent days calling on my 320 without any luck but enjoyed myself still. With the whip it receives very well for its size. Getting heard is the problem haha!

I run a lot of CW on my PRC-320. Yes, it’s not the loudest or most steady tone transmitter out there, but that’s what’s makes it fun and interesting. 73!

Good 👍 video, thanks Gil. That Mediterranean Sea is an amazing blue colour. I am wondering if there might be some easy way to use your mast for a 1/4 wave vertical or maybe EFHW. A slightly more efficient antenna coupled with your /MM suffix will surely net you many QSOs?

@@RadioPrepper I was a submariner, so we managed to "stay on the bottom" much of the time! Actually, underneath the surface; the bottom was way too deep even for a submarine! 😁

You should try to get an Antenna on the Top of your Mast. And maybe a Plug on bottom (Cockpit) for your Counterpoise.. that should be great... 73, Jan

Nice day on a fun boat. I own a PRC 320, and enjoy making contacts on 10 meters. As a technician, I cannot operate many HF bands. Operating that radio is a blast, even though my contacts are limited. Need to get my general license.

Try to get both General and extra in one shot, this way you have a greater chance to ace the General.

i did not completely understand but did you mean that the alternator was emitting RF that interfeared with your radio reception? Could very well be the case. In the old days you could buy special anti-RF kits to improve radio reception inside your car. If i remember correctly one of the parts was a condensor that was fixed on the output of the alternator. Maybe you can do the same on the boat engine?

It looks like after you got fuel at about 1:10 you could have used a Boat Hook. To bad on the 20 meter negative contact. Good/safe sailing, my friend. 🎙73's kd9oam

With FT8 you would have basically pinged a bunch of stations. With JS8 you could have actually talked to them.

A little more infrastructure, but I'd be very tempted to haul an end fed resonant antenna with a parafoil kite. I'd also use JS8 for more reliable communications. 😀

Super... A l'époque où la BLU était courante sur les voiliers, ils se servaient du pataras comme antenne, penses tu essayer cela ? Sinon je rangerais ces défenses car avec ma chance tôt ou tard ça terminerait avec un gros nœud dans une écoute ou autre chose au pire moment....

I just did my first Maritime Mobile operation a month ago on my family’s Tartan 34-2 sailboat! I used the spinnaker halyard to hoist up a line and a wire, then I dropped a short counterpoise in the water. I also only brought my QRP CW kit, so I didn’t get the fun of chatting with people about sailing, but next time I’m bringing my all mode rig. It’s pretty crazy how well your signal gets out in saltwater with a long enough antenna! Also I mostly operate at anchorage because I don’t have to worry about the antenna and the rigging, but I might get a backstay insulator soon. Then I could operate with my dad at the helm!
