Hey Jim, thank you for posting these videos and sharing your knowledge. I have a question: What size are the inlet and outlet of the manifold and what type of adapter (reducer?) you use to connect to the supply and return. Second, If I were to build the manifold myself (pretty expensive I would say), what pipe diameter is the horizontal run? Thank you n advance for your time.
@JimSperanza
@JimSperanza 6 дней назад
@@antoniorestrepo4299 diameter is 1.5 inches. Pipe sizing depends on many factors. Email me at speranzadevelopment@gmail.com for consulting or a design.

Well done. The one thing I have never liked about prefabbing boilers is, more often than not, they are assembled so compact that service on the unit will be next to impossible. You have have done a really good job of striking a great balance. The "next guy" shouldn't have any issue working on this.

I've been in the commercial mechanical trade for almost 30 years. I'm more of the sheetmetal side instead of the plumbing. So I have no business critiquing any of your work. Looks awesome, actually! But boilers, especially these high efficiency condensating boilers just fascinate me. I've done a few, including a Noritz NRCB combi at my home. Awesome machine. I used taco zone valves and a 007-f5 circulator. I keep an extra zone valve and circulator for backup. Now 2 of my zones are baseboard and the 3rd does the basement hydronic fan coil. System works fine and it's into it's 3rd winter. Finally my question. I do not monitor temperature. I really don't know what the return temps are in respect to the supply. I have an outside air monitor to regulate boiler temperature. So would my system benefit from a circulator that uses pressure or ∆t to control flow? Would the cost of the pump actually pay off in the long run? Also, why don't you have a table? My knees and back hurt just watching you, lol
@JimSperanza
@JimSperanza 8 месяцев назад
Thanks for the compliments. You would definitely benefit from a Delta T pump. It will ensure you are not over or under driving the heat emitters depending on how many are open and also the load changing whebln the heat loss differs day by day. I did try using a table before and also mounting it on the wall but it's actually been much easier for me because the size and weight of all the parts. I can climb all over and around while I'm working.

@martinheatingcoolingmartin4693
Hi, I love the video. I do the same stuff with my own company. I’m not set though on what boiler I want to sell. I really like the Navien and I see you must too. Any opinions on using this boiler?
@JimSperanza
@JimSperanza Год назад
Personally I mainly use Navien because I've had minimal issues with them. Also by sticking with 1 manufacturer I really get to know the ins and outs of them and deliver a great product in the end.
@martinheatingcoolingmartin4693
Excellent, thank you for that response. I believe I’ll keep using Navien. I know their tech support is flawless.
@martinheatingcoolingmartin4693
The only thing was: Is the way I came to know Navien was only from service calls…really due to lack of maintenance.
@martinheatingcoolingmartin4693
So Navien didn’t have a good reputation in Maine. But that’s because it’s Viessman land. Oh well, I don’t like the new Viessman anyway. I really like the features of the Navien, it’s really becoming more popular here in Maine. They have a great selection of sizes and combis. Plus excellent service and are a well built product from what I see.
@JimSperanza
@JimSperanza Год назад
Yes there I'd a major lack of maintenance being done which causes many problems and people immediately blame the manufacturer.

With a 1 zone combi Navien Boiler System ... I wonder if the Webstone H-5FK5-CH would be an alternative?
@JimSperanza
@JimSperanza Год назад
This is much more expensive than the Navien manifold and does not need the pressure relief connection as this is already located on the boiler. Also this is a primary manifold and can be used for single or multiple zones, regardless of the zone quantity a primary manifold is required on this boiler.

will the pressure relief valve be connected below the air separator?
@JimSperanza
@JimSperanza Год назад
The heating portion pressure relief valve is actually preplumbed internally on Naviens and is located on the top of the boiler. The domestic hot water pressure relief valve would be located on the service valves.

Noobie question....but shouldn't the air separator be mounted as high as possible in the system?
@JimSperanza
@JimSperanza Год назад
Good question. The air seperator works by "scrubbing" the air out of the system. There is a media inside that traps microscopic air bubbles and allows them to escape. However there is a air bleeder also on the boiler itself at the top which is used to remove the majority of the air at initial startup.
