Great video as always! I have the treatlife one in a common area and it is not particularly intuitive. I think maybe it's trying to do too many things, with the light and the fan control in one "bank." That said, we are the family who is used to simple toggle switches. I think I'll pick one of these up and give a try, adding a separate toggle on a shelly1 to just run the light.

Yes I do agree. I like having both in the same but it is confusing on that switch doing dimming and fan on the same switch. These keep it pretty simple.

Fast forward 8 months later to 6/19/23. Amazon is still selling this one for $37 dollars. DB's instructions still works. I used the yaml configuration instead of the rule3. Also works with Amazon Alexa - I can turn of/off and use the turtle, low, medium,high options via voice. Great job! Edit: I have noticed one thing quirky thing.. If you power cycle the switch - when power is restore - the fan always starts up. I have PowerOnState set to 0 - which is suppose to prevent that. SO67 does not effect that behavior - if it enable or not. Curious if anyone else sees that behavior... Edit2: As DB said if you use his A option for rule 1 than it will "obey" the poweronstate=0 setting during a loss of power event. But I found out the A option complicates how Alexa can control it. You would have to issue 2 voice commands to Alexa - one to turn it on - the 2nd one to set the speed. If you use the B option for rule 1 Alexa is able to turn it on with just the speed command (Alexa, office fan turtle). I got around my original problem in the first edit by adding this rule: rule2 on mqtt#connected do ruletimer1 3 endon on Rules#Timer=1 do power off endon. The 3 second delay is to get past the power on event. I recognize that any event where the MQTT session goes down and comes up would trigger this rule - but that should be a rare event - and this fan is in my office so it simple enough to turn back on...

Awesome switch for sure. If you have the settings that turns on after a speed change then yes it turns on after a power cycle as it thinks the speed changed as the switch pushes out the speed.
@romanykemp9042
@romanykemp9042 Год назад
That was the issue than. I changed over to the other option and it now behaves correctly on reboot. Thanks!

Great video as always! question what if your fan entity did not bring in the slider as depicted at 12:51 mark?
@digiblurDIY
@digiblurDIY 9 месяцев назад
Then you are probably looking at the wrong entity and not the one you made in the YAML file.

I like it, I wish they would have copied the design of the dimmer though. I wonder if the dimmer face would work with the fan? Looks to be incompatible connectors though plus the Tuya MCU riding shotgun so I guess not...
@digiblurDIY
@digiblurDIY Год назад
Yeah totally different designs for sure given the touch control. I do kind of wish we had dimmer control too and drop out the turtle speed if necessary for space/costs constraints

Hi Travis. I appreciate your video. You suggested to use Pi-Hole for the local DNS record and instead using the ip address. I tried but no connection. Do you have to config anything in the yaml or in the mqtt broker? Please share to steps. Thanks

@digiblurDIY 9 месяцев назад
no, just try to ping things and see if it works to test your DNS connection.

No 3 ways yet.. But you can use two single poles in device groups to get the same thing done with more flexibility. digiblur.com/wiki/devices/esp-flashable-devices#plugs

@@digiblurDIY Thanks very much for the quick reply. Would have an example of the two single poles if you have one, assuming they can replace the existing manual 3-ways with the line at one end and the load device at the other end of the "series" string AND it does not require Home Assistant, OpenHab or other type of communications coordinator to make it work.

@digiblurDIY
@digiblurDIY Год назад
I think they are trying it on some of the bigger sellers. I have been suggesting ones with the help of RU-vid polls as well to get a feel for what others want.

@@digiblurDIY if you have their ear, ask for a switch similar to “Smart Light Switch, 3 switches WiFi Smart Switch Button by Youngzuth” but with an ESP32. It’s basically a U.S. variant of the Sonoff M5 with a decora cover. The newer ESP8684 should allow them to cost optimize the design a bit. Just break out leds/buttons/relays as separate IOs since the chip has 21 available. If they really want to level up, make the indicator LEDs SK6812s. These are great to use as multi function inputs where one button/relay in actually tied to the original switch while the other two are “soft” only to send scene or other switch controls to HA.

Recommend making a MQTT backup before making any changes. I dont know why but even without rule3 (I checked no Rule3) it showed up in my Tasmota list as a switch.livingroom_fan in HA. before I did the YAML in config. I think I removed it from Tasmota list. At first I was really confused why it was showing multiple Fan controllers and one as a switch Thanks for all you do.
@digiblurDIY

@@digiblurDIY yes in the tasmota integration. But when I was playing with it just for fun before I did the mqtt manual yaml I changed it's domain to a fan. Even after I removed it in the tasmota dashboard and even removed the yaml and powered off the controller the one I was playing with and changed it domain to fan still shows up in HA entities and can't find how to get rid of it. 🫣
