The Pre-Health Science program (bit.ly/2mBDOxT) at George Brown College in Toronto prepares students academically for future study in many Health Sciences programs through setting a foundation in core mathematics and science courses and providing an overview of the health-care industry. Upon completion of the program, our students have a variety of options, including Practical Nursing, Dental Assisting, Fitness and Lifestyle Management, Orthotics/Prosthetics, Medical Office Administration, Hearing Instrument Specialist and Activation Co-ordinator/Gerontology, among others.

I think it makes more sense to do the PSW program and then go into RPN. They have a 1 semester bridge PSW to RPN program that you can do after you finish the PSW program. You will still have the opportunity to apply to the RPN in January intake, so basically you're not really behind. This way you can work IN the nursing field while going to school and also get clinical experience so you know what to expect in the RPN program.

For people wishing to go the BSCN route, you can still complete the PSW program at George brown instead of the pre health. Since the PSW program is easy you can take pre req necessary (through ILC) to make you eligible for the BSCN Program. Once you get accepted to the BSCN program you can work as a PSW and gain nursing experience. This will look amazing on your resume!! I know a few people that did it this way and its a lot easier because that way you actually get clinical experience and a job

Hi Osman, Pre-Health Science gives you the necessary prerequisites to apply to Practical Nursing (S121). For the BScN (S118) program with Ryerson, applicants must have the actual high school prerequisites, or equivalent credits from a University. College courses, such as those in the Pre-Health Science (A102) program, would not meet the requirements.

The Pre-Health Science Program does prepare students for any of the Dental programs. Once you finishes Pre-Health, then you have the needed courses to apply for Health Science programs.

you should allow students to have exemptions from the English course if they request it and have over a 70 in grade 12 English or score well on their placement testing.

Im currently staying Business Admin. But I've always wanted to study nursing but didn't have the prerequisites to go for nursing. How can I switch my program from Business to PreHealth and start nursing..?

Thanks for sharing. Right now I am a psw who wants to get into the reg nursing program. I noticed at George brown there is a psw to rpn semester which I am interested in. I have already applied. Can I bypass the rpn route to bachelor of science nursing instead?

Hi Rhona, The answer really depends on your credentials. Our BScN program admission criteria is grade 12. The perquisites for the program are Biology, Chemistry, English and 12U, and grade 11 or 12 Math at “U” level. A lot of students don’t take “U” level but instead take “C” or “M” level. I have sent you a message containing email contacts should you have any further questions.

Hi! Is this a good program for those who lack math, science, and physics courses from high school? Or would I need to do those first at a night school? (I did graduate from high school with very good grades, but I was focused on arts and languages at that time. I'm really interested in getting into the medical field in some way - maybe ultrasound tech- but I barely made it past grade 10 math! Please help!) Thanks so much!!

I was wondering for your opinion, since I want to get into Practical Nursing, would getting into PSW be better? Or Pre-Health Sciences

I have heard that if your top 20 in the class for pre-health science that they reserve 20 seats for you for programs like practical nursing, would they reserve a seat for you for dental hygiene as well?
@georgebrowncollege
@georgebrowncollege 9 лет назад
Hi Duke B At this time we do not reserve any seats in the dental hygiene program for students who complete pre-health.

Oh okay, so I will be joining pre-health science in george brown for sept 2015 and I want to go to dental hygiene after for sept 2016. When I apply for dental hygiene does that mean I apply with my college semester 1 grades?
@georgebrowncollege
@georgebrowncollege 9 лет назад
Hi Duke B Yes, if semester one grades meet the minimum requirements we would use it plus any other academic records submitted to make a decision. Also if needed (ie. waitlisted), we will use semester two grades to update the application. To answer you're other question, There is no mandatory testing for S124. With the exception of English, applicants cannot take an admissions test for any missing requirements. Therefore, if they are missing the math or science credit(s) they must take an upgrading course at an adult learning centre, continuing education, night school or via distant education to meet the requirement.

Hi, I am currently at my last year in highschool. I plan on applying for the Dental Hygiene program. I just wanted to know, if I do not make it to the course of Dental Hygiene, can I take this Pre-Health Science program to upgrade my essential courses in order for me to apply again for the Dental Hygiene course?
@georgebrowncollege
@georgebrowncollege 8 лет назад
+CjAznKiD S. The credits from Pre-Health Science - A102 will meet the admission requirements for Dental Hygiene, and completing the program (semester 1 and 2) will make the application more competitive. If your application is not selected to get into Dental Hygiene for 2016, you can apply to A102 for September 2016, and re-apply to Dental Hygiene for the next academic cycle (Sept 2017). Also, there are other upgrading options depending on your academic ranking. We suggest speaking with an Admissions Officer to find the right options for you. Hope that helps!

Will this course automatically get us into the rpn program right after? and if so what are our chances?
@georgebrowncollege
@georgebrowncollege 8 лет назад
+Janessa Mae If you complete the A102 program with a GPA of 3.4 or higher, you will be eligible in competition with other graduates for a seat in S121. To find out more information you may see this link: www.georgebrown.ca/ft-status-2015-2016/.

Hi i am very interested in this program, and i believe that it will give me all the knowledge i need for my career choice. The problem is that I want to take Respiratory Therapy program at Algonquin College(Ottawa). I have all the requirements for the RT program, but need to be prepared which is why i like this program. After i get this certificate, Can i leave George Brown College and go To algonquin College? Thanks
@georgebrowncollege
@georgebrowncollege 9 лет назад
Fatoumata Camara The Pre-Health Science would definitely be a great preparation program for the student, especially for the heavy curriculum of the Respiratory Therapy (RT) program. It will give them good experience in developing or strengthening their time management skills and effective study techniques. Since the Pre-Health program requires students to complete biology, anatomy/physiology, math, chemistry and physics, along with English and some general electives. The student states that they already have the requirements to get into the RT, and just wish to take Pre-Health in order to prepare themselves. In that case, there should be no reason why she could not move on to Algonquin College to begin the RT program after completing Pre-Health. I would just strongly recommend that she apply to the RT program by the deadline for whichever semester it is available (Feb. 1 for September entry, and Jun. 1 for January entry). Hope this information helps.

I was just wondering, it does not mention dental hygiene on the actual pre-health science page for george brown. We can still apply to dental hyigene after completing pre-health science right?
@georgebrowncollege
@georgebrowncollege 9 лет назад
The courses from Pre-health (A102) will help the applicant meet the admission requirements for S124, however, A102 students must meet the minimum grade requirements for dental Hygiene as they are ranked equally with all other applicants. Completing the entire program generally makes the applicant’s application more competitive for S124, but it is not a guarantee of entry. I hope this helps!

I have applied and been accepted to the pre-health program at George Brown. I am wanting to attend Humber for Paramedic afterwards, would this program give me the qualifications to bridge into that program?
@georgebrowncollege
@georgebrowncollege 10 лет назад
Congratulations on your acceptance to George Brown College’s Pre-Health Services program! I suggest checking ONTransfer.ca and with Humber College to see if you are able to bridge into the paramedics program. If you are interested to see what bridging options are available to you at George Brown, you can email our Pathway Advisor at preparation@georgebrown.ca

Hi. Does this program give you a highschool diploma? Please answer.
@georgebrowncollege
@georgebrowncollege 7 лет назад
Hi Reema, you would need to have a high school diploma as an admission requirement to apply for the pre-health program. You would not earn a high school diploma by completing this program, only a Ontario College Certificate.

Hi. I competed the Personal Support Worker program in 2008 and have been working as a PSW since that time. I graduated with a 3.99. I also did a Medical and General Laboratory Assistant program at one of the private colleges. Can I use this and get credits to apply to the RPN program or do I have to do the Pre-health science program or the bridging program first? Bare in mind that I did not do high school here but I went to night school to do maths and completed with 80%.
@georgebrowncollege

Hi Althea, you can apply to the Practical Nursing Program (PN) (S121), and as a back up you can also apply to Personal Support Worker (PSW) Pathway to Practical Nursing Program (S119). www.georgebrown.ca/s121/ www.georgebrown.ca/s119/
