I remember when this series had just aired on public television in Sweden. Everyone who was musicians had it recorded, people we’re watching it in tour busses, i was watching it with my musician buddies (drummer myself), and we we’re all laughing our asses off at how this show must have destroyed the confidence of an insane amount of aspiring drummers. It was setup as a show with lessons in drumming, with some jam sessions for inspiration. On a part of Swedish public tv called UR (utbildningsradion, educational shows teaching practical skills mostly). But the thing was, Morgan thought it was perfectly reasonable to focus the lessons on crazy shit like playing super advanced rudiments in like a 7/8 while playing a bossanova polyrhythm on with your feet like that type of stuff was the drumming 101. So we where just looking at this series shaking our head and laughing at how preposterous it was to think that anyone would actually be able to learn something from this crazy ass show. Morgan is absolutely insane, one of the best drummers on the planet imo. And this medley jam is legendary, can’t get enough of it.

He's got a very peculiar way of playing, it's almost like you think "Is he gonna drop it here...how is he gonna complete this part??", and he just explodes, in a kind weird arythmic but hyper-rytmic way, and your jaw drops and...he just nails the most brutal passages. Amazing!

He is not underrated. Every talented musician has one of these absurd comments lurking. Where do you morons even get the idea that he is underrated? Is it because he isn't well-known by the masses who wouldn't recognize his ability anyway? Is it because he isn't selling millions of records as Billie Eilish's drummer? Good grief.

Mats and Morgan are often described as a virtuos duo. Yet Morgan says he's not after being technical, the way he learned to play drums was to improvise for hours on end without following any specific rythm and that they don't strive to play technical, they simply play the sounds they like and this their sound is simply the outcome of this. How inspiring aint that? :)

I've seen Morgan a number of times, wilder than this w/ Fleshquartet since 1988 - check out their albums! Morgan plays on some - check out "Fleshtime" on the album "Flow" for starters. My best friend is a drummer, and while living in Sweden he asked Morgan after a memorable concert, if he gave lessons. Unfortunately not at the time (1992). But he has been a great inspiration though, at a point my friend started a concept with impossible timings and shifts and the band went along, extreme and original. So go for it!
