I have had my PM 1236 and bench mill for almost three years and have no complaints. I had to replace the original Chinese motor under warranty but Matt with Precision Matthews made me an incredible deal on a new Baldor motor which also increased the warranty period to 5 years. If I had it to do all over again I would not change a thing.

Looking great I can smell the new paint from here. Lol When you want to use collets in it let me know. I just made an adapter for mine and I bet yours is the same mt6. I have a Royal closure and that's all. So I'm making parts. Next up is the drive unit. I can send you my shop drawings. Working on a video of making them. Note: it would only be my second RU-vid video ever so it will definitely be rough. But hopefully better than the first.

A pitty they couldn't put a bigger tailstock quill to match the big spindle thru bore but I guess you can't have it all! lol Will be nice having a new machine you don't have to fuss with.

This series on the 16 X 40 could not have been more timely for me. I’m considering the same machine for my shop. My poor old SB Heavy 10 just isn’t getting it done any more and I’m looking for a more powerful and accurate lathe. I’m very much looking forward to more videos in this series. Thanks for the post.

If I'm not mistaken, this is a Shun Chaun product coming out of Taiwan, though this one seems like it might have been spec'd / tweaked specifically for Matt. Shun Chaun has been manufacturing machines since 1994. It often flies under the Sun Master flag with other importers putting their own badge on it later. A few other importers offer the RML Series and maybe others and I believe Precision Matthews used to offer the RML series as well and can likely get whatever machine that you might want, though some hoop jumping could be involved. The RML 1440 was my dream machine and undoubtedly overkill for the nome shop hobbiest. Still, dream big, though not quite as big as the dream you actually realized. Congratulations and a bit of envy. Having watched your restoration videos, the shop evolving, and the work you put into it, you certainly earned it. From all accounts, these are top shelf machines and Matt's reputation suggests he is someone I'd trust doing business with. Someday, perhaps.

Looks great. I would like to see you add a ring of colored tap to the white wire so if someone besides you gets into the electrical box they will recognize that it is a hot and not a neutral.
