So I know I'm a little late in this, However getting a spray bottle from one of the big box stores works very well. Same will go for a small garden pump sprayer. They also make a PLASTIC RAZOR BLADE that you can sharpen on a wet stone that works very well for cutting off the greasy cosmoline type protective. And will NOT scratch anything at the same time that a steel razor blade can. Letting the mineral spirits soak and giving it several coats over a 2-3 Hour period works well. Especially if you jump around to cleaning the control area as Brad was doing. If you keep adding the mineral spirits to the cosmoline, It will almost drip off into the chip pan. Making clean up on a machine like this very easy. Keep in mind. Mineral Spirits will also remove all the natural oil from the finished surface and flash rust will appear rather quickly. So I will get a case of CRC- SP-350 or the Blaster 16-SS (the Blaster is a 1/3 savings over the CRC and does just as good of a job IMHO) and immediately coat the clea ed surfaces and I'm going. I also start at the top and move left to right and allow gravity to assist in the cleaning of this nature. I've done HUNDREDS of cleanings of this nature in the recent 2 yrs. A family member replaced and added over 4 million dollars of equipment to there business when they expanded into there new building starting in early 2020. Ive gotten so good at this that I have all my supplies and sprayers and pumps filled with Mineral Spirits and we contacted our local supplier here in NE Ohio where Blaster products are manufactured, and have purchased multiple 55 gallon drums of there Blaster 16-SS. Which is used to protect the finished surfaces after they clean the releasing agent off of there production dies until they use that die next in there continous production line.

The fit & finish on your PM machine is much better than mine, is PM sourcing from Taiwan rather than mainland? Very nice lathe, gotta say!

Some serious military grade rust inhibitor, at least the guy that put it on did a precise job. That lathe has some really nice features.

Would not hurt to check all the fasteners for tightness - R&R and lube. You do not want any moving parts to come loose during the break-in. I like installing magnets on the drain plugs.

Looking Great After refurbishing entire machines. Only having to clean ground surfaces and levers that's not covered in rust and petrified gunk is a walk in the park. An even better part, is you don't have to paint it or put it all back together. So have you decided what material her fist cuts are going to be in. LOL. Sheryl crow said " the first cut is the deepest" LOL

I thought you put greese on the spring and hole to hold the ball bearing cause that is a great way to hold them in place just like thread pins

That's what we call CPC, Corrosion Preventative Compound, in the aviation industry. All different types used for different metals and for different conditions. Look up AV8, AV30 and LPS3 just a few. Mineral spirits was the right choice lol. Good looking lathe

Brad - Recommend that before you run the lathe anymore, you pull the cover(s) off the gearbox, drain the oil, check for swarf and loose paint chips, and then refill with fresh oil. These are Chinese lathes (even if from Taiwan) and I would not trust any of them to have ensured the level of cleanliness you need to run this lathe as you intend to.
