Two suggestions from a long term licensed pesticide applicator: Get some throw away rubber gloves and see if you can find an old shoe polish applicator bottle with a sponge top and a cap. It works great and is less messy than the paint brush and bucket method. Thanks for a very informative video.

Thanks for this tutorial! I have so many vines and wild trees growing through my planting beds from the park....

I was gonna get tordon to do this. Thanks for the video, I actually have concentrated round up, I'm gonna follow your instructions, never though it was this easy to kill those unwanted trees.

You just spoke the dirtiest word, "invasives". Some have names--russian garlic, hairy bittercrest, poison ivy (suffered three times this summer), briars, sumac; others have yet to be ID that spread through the woods to replace trilliums, merrybells, foam flowers, etc. And I won't allow an oak of any kind (the squirrels plant them) in my maple, tulip, basswood, beech tree woods. Thanks for this great tutorial.

Thank you for spreading this knowledge. I started doing this in 2005 to help my dad manage his forest. It had scrub, poison ivy, Virginia creeper and one particular raspberry bush that drove him nuts. He'd been cutting/clearing for years and when he added this step it made a world of difference. Yes, the next spring we had dead stubs but it wasn't stubs with new growth. We cut the stubs flush or below the soil level and let the stubs decompose. No, the amount of concentrate didn't really affect the soil's ability to grow, even in large swaths. I've been wondering if using vinegar in the same way would work and if the small amounts would keep the soil from turning acidic. I've also been wondering if the dish cleaners with the soap reservoir and the sponge would work or if the weed killer would just leak out. Being able to cut with one hand and swab with the other could make quick work of a large area of runners.

I’m in Florida on a small lake. My side of the lake has been taken over by I think greenbrier. The vine is pretty high up on the bank. Can I do this and not cause problems with the lake? You have explained this better than any video I’ve found.

I use Tordon with your method...works well. Used on elm shoots in lawn and it killed some neighboring utah juniper tree? Is Tordon too strong compared to Glycophosphate?

This is really helpful. My forested lot is filled with Manitoba maple saplings and it feels like a never ending battle digging them out. I also deal with invasive vines, do you have any other tips for applying to those? I guess just finding the main root. I didn’t think roundup was sold in Canada anymore
@Gardenfundamentals1
@Gardenfundamentals1 2 года назад
It has always been sold in Canada - finding concentrate is the difficult part.

Great information thank you. What about bamboo? Any suggestions?
@Gardenfundamentals1
@Gardenfundamentals1 2 года назад
I don't know how well it would work on bamboo - but I would try the same technique. Alternatively, use a brush and paint the leaves.

Would this work for tree suckers that form at the base of the tree? I have a beautiful full grown greenspire linden that gets tons of suckers every 2 months or so. Don't want to kill the tree. Or is there another reason for these insistent suckers? Great video!
@Gardenfundamentals1
@Gardenfundamentals1 2 года назад
No - because the tree will also absorb the Roundup.

Good video. One question: you talked about using 300g/L (gram/liter? - in the US) The roundup I use is labeled 41% glyfosate. Do you have a quick conversion. Thanks.

Can you do this mid winter in ontario too?
@Gardenfundamentals1
@Gardenfundamentals1 Год назад
No - the plant needs to be actively growing so it takes the glyphosate into the roots.

Good afternoon, Robert! I have goutweed invading one of my perennial flower beds where I am growing irises and peonies that came from my mother's farm garden. These plants are precious to me and I don't want to risk damaging them, however, the goutweed has completely invaded one of the peonies and it is now much smaller than the other one beside it. I have tried hand weeding repeatedly for 3 years but I can't get the goutweed under control so I am considering using glyphosate. Is it absolutely safe for the roots of my irises and peonies if I carefully paint glyphosate on the leaves of the goutweed that is invading their growing space? I am concerned that the glyphosate that gets drawn down into the roots of the goutweed might transfer through the soil to my flower roots. I would very much appreciate your advice about this. TYIA! :)
@Gardenfundamentals1
@Gardenfundamentals1 2 года назад
It won't transfer from one plant to another through the roots.

What about if you add surfactant to the concentrate as an added insurance for the weedkiller to work just in case the rain falls unexpectedly?
@Gardenfundamentals1
@Gardenfundamentals1 Год назад
Don't add things to commercial products - you don't know what reaction will take place.
@geriannroth449
@geriannroth449 Год назад
@@Gardenfundamentals1 ok i understand your reasoning but the purpose of the surfactant is to act as a "sticker" to the chemical on the plant preventing it from washing off from the presence of rainfall

My problem is sassafras trees. They're beautiful trees, but the babies are shooting up right next to my house. I will get rid of them with this method so I don't kill my perennials.
