I'm surprised James didn't mention the marketing of the movie. From what my mom told me, the movie was marketed as an action-packed war movie, which surprised many people in theaters when the predator is finally revealed. That's why they have that fake-out scenes in the beginning.

Recall that all the ad campaigns for both _Scream_ and _Psycho_ displayed the first victim as if they were the main protagonists of their respective films. Also (correct me if I’m wrong), I wanna say a lot of the promotion for the original _Alien_ implied that Dallas was the movie’s Big Hero instead of Ripley.

@@MemesToa to be fair, its incredibly hard to make a case of false advertising in a movie. Unless they advertised it as a fantasy movie about magical girls it isn't false advertising. As long as it IS stated its rated R, is part of the Action genre (or horror if it ever comes up in trailers etc*), and has the advertised actors in it at some point, its fine. Actually just had to write an essay about this so, just wanted to add in here too since I found it interesting

I think the gunfight scene was there for 2 reasons: to trick the audience into thinking it’s another commando type movie, and to establish just how deadly the team is, so when you see how easily the predator kills them, it raises the stakes for the final fight

Jean Claude leaving was honestly the best thing for this movie. They ended up changing the Predators look to what it is in the movie. I also honestly believe Peter Hall being the Predator was the final puzzle piece in making this movie a masterpiece.

16:05 The Pred isn't smashed by a different trap. He's smashed by the counterweight of the same trap he just discovered and avoided. The suspended log, if triggered as intended, will drop and act as the force required to pull Pred up into the disguised spikes. This will never get read but I don't care. I love this movie. I think the credits are pretty genius as most of the cast, the ones who died, are the ones laughing and having a good time. While Arnold is the only serious one because he was the "Final Girl" in the scenario. It makes a ton of sense and I'm glad they decided to do that

For the short story the blood fusion for his injury which he sustained in a car accident had HIV, and he succumbed to AIDS related pneumonia. I still don’t know why they didn’t do a blood test on the blood given to Kevin.

I remember seeing this in my grandads TV stand full of VHS tapes along with Lethal Weapon. Me and my mum used to go there every day since my gran died and there wasn't much for me to do. I asked him if I could put on his tapes and he said yes. Even when I asked to put on predator despite the fact that I was only 8 years old. I remember asking him why Dillon's gun was still firing even though he lost his arm and he explained how nerves worked. I remember him telling me what the big gun Jesse Ventura was using is. Unfortunately he passed away when I was nineteen. Guy was a legend.

Predator is one of my favorite movies. While some of it is painfully dated, it at least has a lot of distinct characters that you honestly feel a little upset seeing them die. While some effects don't hold up I think most of them do and add to this "alien" feel for the Predator and even the woods. Plus Predator without his mask looks fucking rad as shit, that fact that he can look around and emote shows how much work was in the costume.

To be fair, if your squad leader decides to do something without vocal orders you're usually supposed to just follow suit, so when Dutch just went "aw shit" and opened up everybody was supposed to suppress fire like crazy people. This is oddly one of the more... confusing military movies. They got nearly everything correct so they obviously had real guys on board, but then it had to be "movie-fied" and also be a horror film, so there are a FEW tiny "dumb decisions" but not alot comparatively. Babbling. Be safe out there Thomas, very nice to meet you :)

@@wren7195 if I remember, one Vietnam vet story I've heard is some soldiers firing all their munitions to scare off any ambushers, I think they called Bullet time or something. Not doctrine or official tactics, but very plausible

It'd depend on the situation of course, especially since if you're about to be ambushed it's because the enemy already knows your position and you don't know theirs (so firing like madmen won't give you away but you're not sure of the enemy position so you're just wasting rounds at that point)... but if they've got a fix on you and you don't know their location, just firing randomly won't discourage trained personnel waiting to drop you. But I can see it in some situations, rare though. Vietnam was a *MESS.* But yeah in the Army at least, if squad leader opens up in a direction you're supposed to as well. The idea being if it's SO sudden you don't have time to give orders but you know you have to shoot suppressing fire, it's understood by everyone to follow suit, mixture of direct and enfilade fire. Bombird 88 Actually, that makes total sense. Predators hunt on their own and have rules, tribes, even go through trials to become hunters. While xenomorphs knows nothing except protect their species, their queen and make new hives, they simply kill to protect their territory, and find hosts for their offsprings.

Here is why predators should go on the count whole Xenomorphs don't. Xenomorphs are just animals acting on instinct in fact in some variation they had a queen like ant colonies which means they most likely have a hive mind of sorts Where as Predators are clearly sentient beings even being very honourable in how they do things as we see, they don't attack people who are defenseless

Awe, I liked "Predator 2." Some like the first, but the second expanded the lore, gave us the iconic scene of a xenomorph skull on a Predator ship, and Danny Glover gave a more human, vulnerable performance to Arnold.

Xander Lowe Predator 2 was a fine follow up. Compared to the other current Predator films, included the two AVP films, for me it ranks 2nd best, 3rd place at worst. Lots of memorable moments and actors. Ruben Blades, Gary Busey, and can't forget Bill Paxtons hat trick. Should be a fun kill count.

This was my first R-rated movie, because I didn't know it was R. The gore probably should have tipped me off. That said, I loved the genuine tension the movie has. Plus, the effects for the Predator camo have aged surprisingly well. Unless you're looking for it or he's on the move, it's really hard to spot him in the jungle. I never considered it a Slasher, but you make too many strong points. Why can't more slashers be like this?

Fun fact: in that scene before they set up the first set of traps where you see billy standing in front of his team staring out at the trees and Arnold slowly walks up to him you see Arnold is kinda reared back with his gun at his hip, that’s because the hotel they were staying at had some bad water that Arnold drank either earlier that day or the day before and he had sever diarrhea
