I first saw this movie back at 1987 when I was 17 years old. Now, I showed to my 10 years old nephew as a reference point for masculinity this opening scene and, after few years I will showed him the full movie. 100%(+) pure authentic manly movie.
It also helps to establish that they're not a conventional group. The expanded universe states that they are a merc group contracted by the U.S. government to do the shady shit that the regular forces aren't allowed to do.
@@korzeniek78 exactly. Predator moves were special in P1 and P2 because of brilliant K.P. Hall. In later abomination of movies they were so boring and mechanical. The first two had depth of charachter and swagger. Btw. Never look at Prey, it is embarassing GARBAGE!!
@@korzeniek78 to me it has no style, suspense, loveable characters or good acting. Predator design is poor, and those fighting scenes and choreography are just too much. The girl is better at anything and everything than the rest of the characters without even trying, she acts and talks like a modern day teen with instagram account AND she can jump like spiderman with heavily wounded leg at the end (remember how powerless Dutch was at the end, he went through hell), Soundtrack is also nowhere near the original. It's just.... Bad! At least for me.
To be fair, the film does shift from a standard action film, to a sci-fi film, to a survival film. All pretty seamlessly as well! I wish more movies were like this nowadays!!
Very likely. Some of the 80s were still a mixed time in cinema, it wasn't all heros, guns and flag waving. You had films like Wittness, Platoon and Born on the 4th July which were brutally honest about how horrific violence can be, the physical and mental damage a gun can cause. It wasn't like the old war movies where the heroes couldn't die and getting shot was just an instant painless death with just a drop of blood making it past the censors. Or An Officer and a Gentleman which doesn't glamorise life in the military, its main character and his weaknesses. First Blood is as much about the trauma of violence and PTSD as it is Rambo kicking ass. Then though you also have films like Top Gun, Raiders of the Lost Ark and Die Hard which i dearly love too, much more about the excitement, fun and thrills an action film can give you. The USA spent most of the 70s coming to terms with the shattered loss of confidence over Vietnam, Watergate, Stagnation, great social upheaval, the Iran 79 revolution, bad times.... It wasn't really till the mid to late 80s it had properly recovered its confidence.
I'd like to meet that pilot....they don't teach landing a UH-1 like that in flight school. Low, fast, the flare and drop it on an eggshell without a wiggle. That's some serious Nam combat aviation experience there
@@dannobaxman9309 It looks better, how they're on call guys and have all their gear prepped in a bag and has the "these ain't your regular military guys" look
yeah, hit me that it's just mind set that is the difference when it comes to obtaining the edge, that getting confidence from wherever is just vital to the entire picture, as in being on top and at your best
Big thing missing from modern films is the excellent audio sound and fantastic classical music. Only a classical orchestra can build top quality cinema sound.
@@SalemGhassanHanna I think we’re forgetting that the 80’s was *the* era of the synthesiser, both have their place. We wouldn’t have any of John Carpenter’s excellent soundtracks to his films without synth.
Well masculine action movies like Nobody and John Wick movies brought back the eighties and nineties golden age of action movies style back and have masculine heroes
No such thing as toxic masculinity as it’s made up by woke liberals who are weak. Woke has finally got the backlash it deserves as the masses have waken up and fighting back. These hard times are made by weak men and hard times create strong men as strong men create good times you know. Woke and sjw nonsense will die out a slow poisoned death in the middle of the decade or near the end of the decade and entertainment will return back to normal and men will be men again. Although John wick movies and Nobody showed there is masculine action movies like the late seventies eighties and nineties and those three decades will come back as history always repeats itself. Weak men make hard times and hard times create strong men and strong men create good times
Its very disappointing to see the reduction of Masculinity. People don't seem to understand the importance of discipline, toughness, strength, responsibility, and courage. Etc. Why people hate the virtues of masculinity is because they are weak. Mentally and physically.
This is what Gi-Joe shoulda looked like as a movie. We got Dutch is Duke, Roadblock is Mac Gung Ho is Blain Breaker is Hawkins Billy is Spirit Scarlet is Elpidia Carillo Poncho is Grunt and Carl Weathers is Ranger
There's a great brutal simplicity to this film, it builds and gets simpler and simpler till its just Arnie v the predator in a pure act of endurance, who's the better warrior ultimately. There's no subplot or subtext, no love story shoe horned in. It's about as bare bones as it gets and that's partly why it works.
I watched this movie nearly everyday afterschool in the 90s as a kid, we need this masculinity pumped back into this soft, easily offended society that we have become!
absolutely loved this opening scene to this movie. The music I feel had been underrated for sure.Love how the dudes come outs the helicopter..pure testosterone..👍🏻👍🏻
One of my favorite sci-fi action movies! I saw this in theaters on my fifth birthday 35 years ago in St. Louis as first my mom dad and 11 and 15 year old brothers took me to showbiz to have my birthday there and after that we went to see Predator in the theater next door. I’ll never forget that being 5 years old of being entertained by the rock a fire explosion in showbiz pizza and by Arnold at the same day. It looks better on ultrahd 4k
an incredible film in my opinion, I discovered it last year around October, I admit that I loved everything about this film, everything impressed me, thanks to 20th century fox.
That Huey pilot made one badass landing. Comes in low and fast, pitches back at the last second to burn off the speed and quickly lands. Guy was a pro.
Dutch puffing on his cigar while the army helicopter takes off in the back ground 💪 first saw this at 17 I didn’t think there could be anything more manlier. 20 years later there still isn’t . 💪
That movie was such woke garbage it’s led me to believe all the positive reviews are bought. First predator is the perfect example of how to have a diverse cast without it being forced. There’s true brotherhood and we never have to sit through cringy dialogue of the minorities b****ing about being oppressed or Anna feeling undervalued.
@@Da60FOVDemon also agree, but I have to add - woke or not, female lead or not, made in 2022 or let's say 1989, the movie remains what it is - a complete garbage. I also can't believe how most people liked it... It shouldn't have no more than 4.0 on IMDB, and even that is too much
Watching right now while my neighbors are tricking and treating 🎃 👻 I’m totally inspired to start to workout for a year to dress as Dutch for Halloween on next year.
