We like to keep our equipment in excellent condition and the Harbor Freight Predator 4000 is no exception. Today we go through how to change the oil on this generator.
*A quiet **Generater.Systems** , love the dual fuel capabilities, camper is 50 amp but the adapter helps and found it still handles the load. Haven't taken a camping trip yet, that's in a couple of weeks. Will see how well it does over a long weekend.*
$ and the inverter type arr great for electronic equipment like your TV or computer. A general generator is good for lights or power equipment like electric drills
@@KingWilliamthese 212cc engines are great, they don't vibrate that much and are not noisy compared to these 439 cc engines. The 98cc OHV engines are even more quieter. Truth be told, I'd rather have 2 or 3 generators that produce less kW and less noise than a bigger generator producing more power but also more noise
@@KingWilliam I have a INGCO generator with a built in AVR. It's a non inverter open type producing 1.2kw of running watts and weighs about 23 kg. Unlike Briggs engines with plastic carburettors, the INGCO generator, despite being a Chinese brand, comes with a typical metal carburettor and have reinforced rubber pads making its engine vibrate less, creating less noise. Actually, even though, my generator is not an inverter, it surprisingly produces 70 db LWA of noise. It's bigger sibling, the 212 cc produces 71 db LWA and 2.5 kW of running watts. For a Honda clone, it's incredibly well built and super quieter I had also a flathead engine but this thing was horrible, hurt my ears a lot. Noisy, vibrates a lot at a point , it wanted to tear itself apart and it's sound pressure was reaching an alarming 110 db of noise
I've been using one for commercial use with my business for 5 years now and never had a problem still starts on the first Pole but I couldn't remember how to change the oil in it so good video
Don't forget to add "Stabil" Fuel Stabilizer to your gas tank. Keeps that gas from getting gummy if you are storing with fuel in the tank for extended periods of time. Adding some to your Jerry can is a good idea too.
⚠️Here are the safety rules of using portable generators It is important to follow all generator safety rules whenever we use portable generators: Everyone must see this. This is just a reminder for everyone’s safety. 1) KEEPING OTHERS SAFE: Please do not allow an unqualified person or your children to operate and service the portable generator. Just because some manuals don’t say that doesn’t mean it’s safe. That is important against the generator safety rules. We also need to be keeping an eye on our children too. You need to make sure that your children are not playing near the portable generator especially when it’s running so they won’t get electrocuted. Generators pose electrical risks and they can be hot during an operation. Please keep your children away from the portable generator at all times. It is important to keep our children safe especially our little ones. Be aware of all the hazards. 2) WHERE TO RUN YOUR GENERATOR: Some people use their portable generators indoors which increases the risk of carbon monoxide poisoning. It’s important to have a carbon monoxide if you have a gas generator. Never ever use your generator indoors even if your doors and windows are open and even in the garage is not safe to use a portable generator. Not even at your porch and your deck. It is never safe to use your generator indoors and in enclosed areas of your home. Your generator needs to be 15-20 feet away from your house. 3)🔥FIRE HAZARDS: Never refuel your generator while it’s running. You need to let your generator cool off before refueling it and before storing your generator. Never overload your generator too. Never ever back feed your generator. You should never plug your generator into a wall outlet. Also never store propane tanks indoors. Please keep flammable things away from the generator as well and please don’t smoke cigarettes near the generator. Having a fire extinguisher next to the generator is also important against the generator safety rules. 4) GENERATOR OPERATION: make sure your hands are dry before touching the generator. Never use your generator in wet conditions. Don’t let your generator get wet. You need a generator tent if you need to use your generator during wet weather. Please don’t wear loose clothes when operating the generator. Turn on your generator before plugging in appliances. Use the right cord for your generator. Please do not use worn out cords. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-I1jT3ANENvI.html and here is a video more about keeping others safe when using generators Hope this helps. I like how people write 9 things your doing wrong on a 3 step process. Good video. Just a simple thanks here. But by the way, when you pour oil you should really factor in the rotation of the Earth like professionals do. You wanna aim slightly left of the hole to hit dead center. Also have a wind meter nearby to compensate for viscous drift. You're welcome. 😜

You can purchase an oil drain extender, most that I have seen are sold under the Drainzit brand, they are like 15 bucks and make life so much easier when draining small engines.
I was thinking about putting a short piece of pipe with and elbow and a cap. It needs something otherwise it just makes a mess with the frame in the way of the oil draining.
And be careful using portable generators as well ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-I1jT3ANENvI.html here’s a video about keeping your family safe while using generators. Generator safety is very important especially during power outages. Thank you stay safe
I used a small piece of tinfoil to divert the oil into my drain bucket and a 10 mm socket with an extension to remove the drain plug everything else was just as you said thanks for the video
Thanks for the vid but for anyone reading this: Do not use synthetic oil during the break in period listed in the manual. After break in, synthetic is fine.. and preferred.
Agreed. Even better, after 30 min break in, run it another 30 min with a low 500w load, then another 30 min with low and high alternating load to allow real break in and seating of the stator/components and then oil change. At .6 qts, I just did this, and doing another OC after the first hour of real run time. Then using Walmart synthetic Super-Tec which is made by a name brand. Check Project Farm for more information.
Idk much about generator's but just got me a new one used the supreme 10w-30 in a blue bottle an run it about 3 or 4 hours since 6 days ago the oil,is getting brown but idk if I should change it now it's still full but just light brown
I wonder if you have since added a magnetic tip dipstick and checked for tiny particles using a white linen cloth yet? I also bought a hours metere that show other items per the menu. You may want to check that out as well. Works super with a couple pulls in sub-zero temps too. Thanks for the video!
Plug will not go past 3mm. It hits the metal bracket. Mine is exact same model but made almost over oil plug. You can't even fit a thin socket. Just tipping generator to its side and it all came out. It was alot easier.

Ford Oil ist really suboptimal for a generator engine, as Ford specifications require a lower high temperature viscosity. Maybe Ford engines are designed for that but not your generator
I loved the video but man, a small paper funnel would have been nice to direct the draining oil. In California you could do 2 years in prison for that. LOL
Yes. It's a tight spot to add oil. Making a paper funnel would be the easiest way to add oil.I think in Cali it's 5-10 unless you are an illegal alien....then you are set free.

@@cliff9685 I know it's been a year or more, but take a look at the owners manual. Add half a quart (equal to 16 ounces) of SAE 10w-30. I use a measuring cup (one that you can find at tractor supply or farm and fleet kind of a store), it works better that way. Overfilling and underfilling can cause the engine to overheat and make the engine starting process more difficult if too full (overfilling can also push oil through breather tube and soak the air filter in oil making it hard for the engine to breathe) and impossible to start if oil is too low (low oil shut off feature turns a running engine off and can prevent it from restarting until the oil situation is corrected). The measuring cup may seem like overkill or too much work, but it pays for itself and reduces frustration of small engine owners. Hope that gives you a better understanding in the future. God bless my friend.
