Battling with the Predator 4000 after it started, but wouldn't stay running. Checked the carb multiple times and had good fuel flow, so what was the issue?

Very helpful Tim. We have the same generator and it wouldn't start and fuel was leaking from the rear gasket. Bought the replacement on Amazon and having watched your example it was a piece of cake to install. Started with the first pull and no leaks!

Don’t forget about the generator safety rules: Always make sure you follow all the generator safety rules whenever you use your portable generator. This is only a reminder. Generators can be dangerous if not used carefully. Every year, hundreds of people die or get injured when using portable generators due to carbon monoxide poisoning and electrocution. Make sure you are using your generator carefully and keeping others safe as well. There is something very serious that everyone should always be aware of when using generators. Some people do run their generator indoors which is not safe and that increases the risk of carbon monoxide poisoning which can cause death of family and you. Some people run their generator in wet conditions which can electrocute them. Please remember that you should never run your generator indoors. Remember that carbon monoxide is an odorless and colorless gas that you cannot see or smell. Carbon monoxide is a silent killer. Keep that in mind. Make sure your generator is 15-20 feet away from your house and away from doors, windows, and vents. Never use your generator in your porch too. Having a carbon monoxide detector is very important against generator safety. Some people also allow children to go near the portable generator which could pose risks. We need to keep an eye on our children making sure that they are not near the portable generator so they won’t get electrocuted or burned by the generator which is dangerous. A locking enclosure also keeps kids safe. A generator shed might look like a tempting place to explore, or take cover during a game of hide and seek, but a generator is a dangerous piece of equipment that can cause injury. It says on the manual that we should also keep children away at all times from the portable generator to avoid injuries. Please do not allow a child or unqualified people to operate the portable generator. It is important to keep your children safe especially little ones. The portable generator can be hot during an operation. Just because some manuals missed what should be listed doesn’t mean it’s safe to do. Always follow the generator safety rules when using portable generators. Generators pose electrical risks. If you need to use your generator during wet weather, you need a generator tent to protect your generator from getting wet. Don’t let your generator get wet. Keep your generator dry and before using your generator, please make sure your hands and your generator is dry. Do not wear loose clothing when operating the generator. Everything that is said on the generator’s operating manual should not be ignored. Never smoke cigarettes near the generator. Please keep flammable things away from the generator. Never overload your generator too. Your generator can catch fire. Never ever try to plug a generator cord into a wall outlet to avoid back feeding. Back feeding your generator is dangerous. Always turn on your generator first before plugging in appliances and shut off the appliances before turning your generator off. Use a heavy duty cord for your generator and the cord should not be worn out. All the instructions should be followed carefully. Never refuel your generator while it’s running. It can cause fire if fuel spills while your generator is hot. You should turn off your generator and let it cool off before refueling it. Having a fire extinguisher next to the generator is also important. This is only a reminder for everyone’s safety of using generators. Make sure your generator is properly grounded. Having a fire extinguisher next to the generator is also important against the safety rules. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-I1jT3ANENvI.html and here is a video more about keeping others safe when using generators and also about our family’s safety. Remember it’s better to be safe than sorry.

Appreciate the vid ,helped me decide to seafoam the carb instead of taking it apart..runs great now. A big help to not gum the carb again is turn off the gas while motor running to use what would be stuck in the line.

Ha! Been trying to get my MQ 6000 running for a few days now. I got a new carbrater with new gaskets but it was hunting reported the low speed jet same thing. Get sick of messing with it so I got some of those little drill bits and some more carb cleaner and cleaned it up clearing all the ports with the little drill bits and it would not start or run at all. I cleaned it again same thing. Then I saw your video and used the original gaskets and it started right up! A quick adjustment and it runs perfect. Thanks man!

We have used the ru-vid.comUgkxOTeIs0vv4_9B5hsmnLsk9r930uDQLu_Y for probably 30 hours with our camper and it’s been great! The noise level is really only noticeable when running the AC and other appliances like the microwave, hair dryer, or coffee pot. It’s not huge like other ones and it has wheels so even at 90lbs, I can move it!

@@ASliceofWoodWorkshop unfortunately pulling it under any type of load could cause damage, but it is a predator and they are very good generators, hints why they call them "Honda Clones", so I would be surprised if it did cause damage... i would start with rust build up on the generator shaft itself, then run the wiring down for defects... good luck to ya...

You’re getting there, put that other metal/ rubber spa,car back in. Make sure you didn’t pop the breaker. Crank it up, plug in a drill and test it, or plug something else in. Maybe the light blew out. If, not, spin the drill chuck backwards sharply a few times. See if that works. You’ll figure it out, I don’t want to spoil you videos. Good job, keep it up!

When you leave something plugged in and it dies, you lose residual magnetism. Plug in a corded drill and give it a few spins while the generator is running it give it a boost. If going one way on the drill doesn’t work, try the other direction.

You have to take the load off of the generator before you shut off the motor. To do this you must unplug all appliances and Equipment plugged into the generator. Failure to do this will result in the generator becoming demagnetized

@@christophergurley8400 demagnetized happens if the gen has set unused for awhile, if you start the gen and there’s no electricity output (if your brakers aren’t kicked) try plugging in an angle grinder and run the wheel of the grinder on the concrete of your driveway with the trigger pressed, it should send a slight charge into your gen and recharge the rectifier.

I repair generators on the side, as a hobby. Can’t stress enough the importance of running ethanol free fuel in all of your equipment. You can buy AVGAS/MOGAS octane 91 which is available at municipal airports, or ethanol free fuel available at a Lowe’s, Homedepot. Airport gas is $4.50/gal, and the stuff at Lowe’s is $20 a gallon. Trust me, you will eliminate virtually all the carb problems that 10% ethanol gas will create, especially in engines that get sporadically used such as a generator.

By blocking that hole on the end of the carb you were restricting the pilot jet air path. That circuit is very sensitive and can cause high speed issues. And any of those carb gaskets mispositioned could cause an air leak.

I tired starting 1 or 2 times with no success, seafoam tech said let it sit and start the next day, i will try starting today but i have a feeling that the seafoam loosened up gunk and now possibly clogged the jets on thr carb or possibly my gas is a few months old and shouldve been fresh gas. Any help on what i should do first to trouble shoot is appricated. I was thinking to first remove spark plugs and check them, if theyre still good put them back and then my next step would be carb kleen into the carb then try to start. Also if old gas is inside maybe adding more new fresh gas will help dilute thr old gas in order to start? Plz help

Pull the plug and add a bit of gas to the cylinder. If the welder starts after a few pull and then dies again it is time to take the carb apart and clean all the jets with s small wire.

@@OysterP Don’t forget about the generator safety rules: Always make sure you follow all the generator safety rules whenever you use your portable generator. @@The_Happy_Aviation_Enthusiast lot of stupid people in this world that's why common sense is what people need and not a list of rules 10 pages long stupid people shouldn't even touch equipment like that.

Nice video. But it seems like you're jumping into fixing something way too quick. Give it another thought then decide if that's the issue. For me, it actually looks like you may have created much more problems yourself in trying to fix it and got yourself in an endless loop.
