I installed an extra 1tb m2 ssd in the spare slot. Didn't bother with a HDD, but to clarify, you can install a 2.5" traditional mechanical hard drive *or* a 2.5" Solid state drive in the bay described here.
Why couldn't the cable be preinstalled with an access bay? Love the laptop but don't see why the extra steps were necessary. Previously owned an Acer Nitro 5.
Do you have any problem with the keyboard on this model by any chance? I have the 2020 model and it’s great except the keyboard... I can press on a corner of the key and it doesn’t register - I have to be much more centered over a key just for it to register a key press. But that doesn’t happen on any other keyboard I have around including my old laptop.
@@ayekantspeylgudI have the same problem, especially with the left Shift if I try to press Ctrl and Shift at the same time. I guess it's just poor design
it can be used for both, you can install a compact laptop HDD or you can install an SSD in the slot, it is your choice and thus why it still says HDD upgrade cable.
@David Logan I think he was just talking about the terminology on the sticker on the pack that the upgrade cable came in. As for HDD vs SSD and SSD being better. For speed - yes. For storage space, no. You can get like 8TB or more for same price you can get a 2TB SSD. So if you want more storage and speed is not a concern then a HDD is still the better option.
I need to buy the sata cable, but I can't find one for the ph317-54 (only the ph317-53). I can't tell if it will be compatible. Where would I find the part, or the whole kit, for my model?
After following these instructions and putting the laptop back together, the laptop powers on and the screen is clearly on, but there’s no visual. Any idea what’s going on?
Normal? sure, good for your laptop longevity? nope, do you have it flat on a surface? try to raise it a little with books or something, like put a book on the back side of it so there's an opening below it and the laptop can breathe You could also buy one of those laptop bases, it does basically the same, they are pretty cheap and convenient Also, never NEVER put your laptop on a blanket, it wont be able to get fresh air and will probably crash or even worse, burn
