Howard Leavitt push ups alone and physical training will only help you so far, ranger school you have less calories to eat on purpose, always hungry and drained and heavier packs are ruck marches farther in Ranger school than in the Army’s SF tab school. Most of the time you have to have prior experience in combat, and be of a mainly combat-related mos, and pass rigorous A&S Tests. Train your mind to be more useful than your body and learn to control your emotional responses to be clear headed in extremely stressful situations and you stand much better chance at completing the courses, instead of simple body workouts
Back in the early 80's, I worked with a bunch of GSG 9 der Bundespolizei, formerly Grenzschutzgruppe 9. The wall was still up and there was great concern over Stasi agents operating in West Berlin. Those GSG 9 boys were MOTIVATED and displayed outstanding professionalism. Their skills and intelligence were matched only by their balls - giant German balls of steel. Great guys, good times.
