Hey man, I tried making a sheet too, and for some reason when I get to do the first match with the vlookup it keeps returning with an error. Any reasons you can think of that might be basic?

I keep getting an #N/A error And it says " a value is not available to the forumla or function"

@@DJTJHokie Alright lad, to grab the ELO Rating for the player in B4 (as part of the bigger formula in the Win% as outlined in the video), the VLOOKUP should be: VLOOKUP(B4,'Raw Data'!$B$21:$P$463,9,FALSE). Try that, making sure your VLOOKUPs stay consistent with absolute referencing, and let me know if that fixes your problem lad.

@@excel_ladz still not able to get it going 🤦‍♂️. When I evaluate the formula it always throws the N/A error once it tries to pull that elo number. It picks up the name, but can't seem to bring back the number

@@DJTJHokie Alright lad, when you selected the player name, did you type it in or select it from the drop-down list I created in the video. I'm just thinking the formula may not pick up a value if the player you're actually looking for doesn't exist in the Raw Data tab. Just to try and identify which part of the Win % formula you're getting wrong. Just firstly try and grab a player's ELO next to their name with an XLOOKUP or equivalent VLOOKUP. Then try and grab their opponents using the same process. Then once you have these two scores, plug it in the Win% ELO formula that appears on the bottom of your screen at 5:00 and write out the formula. Let me know how it goes lad.

Hey lad, I’ve done a video on using ELO Ratings to predict the FIFA World Cup that you might be interested in. In terms of competitions such as the Premier League, I prefer not to use ELO Ratings to predict matches as ELO is for zero sum games, meaning it doesn’t take into account draws.

So in the 'Raw Data' worksheet in the video there are columns for a player's hard court, grass court and clay court ELO Rating - unfortunately, there's no data for indoor vs outdoor. Because the Australian Open is played on a hard court, I only use the hard court ELO Rating in this video. At around 1:43 of the video, I explain this and then name the range to reference it later on when calculating a player's Win %.

Hi lad, I'm planning to make a 2023 Super Bowl video, predicting the winner on Excel. As to your question specifically, there are two types of videos I'm planning of making soon on the NFL. The first is to use the margins of NFL games (aka the spread) to predict the winner. The second is to use other stats to predict the spread of an upcoming NFL match. I hope that answers your question lad.
