Some of y'all have zero empathy or sabr, seriously. Some people have trouble grasping the concept of 'grooming'. She's been taken advantage of, whether he is her Mahram or not, her parents and sister entrusted her in his care whilst they were absent. She is A) noticeably younger, B) she'll lose her entire family and C) the entire social/familial dynamic puts him as a figure of authority and therefore makes him a groomer. This is not any old 'adulterous' relationship. It is wrong and I truly feel for her. The social implications of this entire situation will literally follow her forever. Seventeen may be considered 'of age' if she was more mature but her one email alone has already conveyed to me and many others how immature and dazed by youth she is. May Allah ease her burden.

Completely agree. She is 17, he's in a position of power over her as her GUARDIAN while her parents are living in a completely different country and her sister is always at work, and he's 10 years older. This is what manipulation and grooming looks like. It isn't difficult to convince a teenager to do things that are harmful to them, especially when you have power over them. Men like this are incredibly dangerous. He's married to her sister, he has two kids, what was he thinking? And he tells her to keep it a secret and to have an abortion? This man is complete scum.

This is the worst advice ever.... He's 10 yrs older than her.. 15 and 24 , 16 and 25 and 17 and 26 is a big difference!!! When did it start? He's been alone with her grooming her, manipulating her, taking advantage of her, while his wife is working, he's putting his kids to bed early, telling her sit on my lap while we watch a movie, knowing she's been taught to respect and obey, and yes when your young and someone touches you and whispers to you, your body responds and it's hard to say No, but she wasn't with a teenage boyfriend, she was with a man that should of protected her innocence then take it from her. What a horrible situation to be in. While I think that it was wrong of her to betray her sister's trust like this, her actions compare in no way to those of her BIL. She is a child, she is vulnerable, and naive. Sure, she made a bad moral judgement, but he, a knowing adult, groomed her to be his lover, preying on her innocence. And that's wrong. Especially because he was in a position of power and protection (as an older "brother"). I think you guys handled this question with such sensitivity and compassion.

Whether or not you think that a 17 year old is a child is not the point. She was only 15 when she moved in with her sister and brother-in-law. Which means that for over two years her brother-in-law cultivated the kind of relationship with her that would lead to this. That is the definition of sexual grooming. I'm from the U.S. where this would count as statutory rape, as U.S. kids are still minors until they're 18. I understand it's different in the U.K. But it's really only different from a legal standpoint. Morally, it is reprehensible to groom a child with the intent of pursuing a sexual relationship. The reason relationships like this aren't okay is because of the power dynamic. When there is a disparity of power between the participants in a relationship, it can be unhealthy for the less powerful person. That's why most companies don't allow management to date employees, why university professors can't date their students, why much older men shouldn't date teenage girls. The power dynamic puts that young girl in a position to be abused. Not only is he the adult here, he is also an older male in a culture that emphasizes male authority, particularly within the family. He used his position of power to manipulate her, period. This has nothing to do with trying to make the world a sugary, soft "fairytale." She already knows it's not a fairytale, seeing as she's facing either being ostracized by her family or a forced abortion.

What I find the saddest is that we all will watch this video and carry on with our lives; but the fact of the matter is that an actual 17 year old is in such a big trouble. As a 16 year old I just pray Allah helps the person put wherever they are. I hope Allah puts sense and direction into my generation and older generations. I agree with Dina, I actually am starting to hate this world - just no genuine and morally good hearts people left. All I can really say is... Day of Judgement - it really isn't far. One cannot abort a child without valid reason like say a severe disability alhumdulilah my own mother never did it the two the times she was informed her children had severe disabilities. Also it also depends on which firq you are. Though the soul in a foetus is blown in at 120days it's still accountable on the day of akhirah. We all choose to do deeds and the end results/conclusions are written by Allah swt. And I know in the last decade the abortion rate in Muslims has also sky rocketed Allahullam. It is her choice as she is in a country that's fine with abortions. But everyone should make the decision without emotions and have a levelled head. I personally would never abort a child especially on the soul reason that I slept with the wrong person. I myself am a mother of two children. This is a very big situation and she needs the advice of imams doctors elders. But to hush something by killing a human is wrong. Again do research for an in-depth on abortions being haram etc. Im Pakistani and a sunni muslim. Thanks

What great advice. I got pregnant at 23yrs old and the father left me. My stepfather and mum told me the same thing... I was the one that had to do the work and live with it. I chose to go it alone. I have a sweet boy and later married and had two more babies... i was lucky. My son was worth it but man it was hard and his dad eventually came around and even tho he still is flakey my son and even daughter love his visits (my third baby was a stillborn... I only have the two here with me). Anyway my point is telling her she needs to seek help and she will be the only one able to make the decision is good advice.

She's been taken advantage of, whether he is her Mahram or not, her parents and sister entrusted her in his care whilst they were absent. She is A) noticeably younger, B) she'll lose her entire family and C) the entire social/familial dynamic puts him as a figure of authority and therefore makes him a groomer. 17 years old......... so young... I'm 23 now and I'm a completely different person from 6 years ago. Only now as an adult I can see how young 17 is. It is very easy to manipulate someone that age, and I'm truly sorry for her. In the interest of others watching this - children sexually abused by family are not to blame; the abuser is manipulative and uses shame and scare tactics to keep his prey silent. If a girl is uncertain about to whom to turn, perhaps a school counselor or a free therapy clinic would be helpful. That way there is someone unbiased and who may be able to find appropriate resources for the child and help him/her navigate the situation. Binging on your advice videos - thank you so much for making the distinction between relationships with unequal power and control between the two people. An older man and a 17-y/o (who, let's be honest, is still a child); the man seems manipulative and has put this girl in an impossible situation. She may believe it was consensual, but due to the control differential, she was taken advantage of (to say the least). In the US (don't know other places), in some states, this would be deemed statutory rape. Even if he was 9 years older than she is, 17 y/os really are still adolescents, and older men - even men in their twenties - should not be making advances on 17 y/os. And men, in any community, tend to get away with it. I also watched your video re: having an "affair" with an Imam. You only touched on this aspect briefly, but in this situation, the Imam also has more control in the relationship than the woman, and he is supposed to be a safe and positive person in this woman's life. He may be human, but he has a greater responsibility to act appropriately (IMHO).
