Two weeks after the initial landings carried out by the Tanaka and Kanno Detachments from the 2nd Formosa Infantry Regiment of the 48th Division at Aparri and Vigan, which resulted in remarkable success, on December 22nd, the main body of the 14th Imperial Japanese Army came ashore at Lingayen Gulf, while only two days later the Japanese mounted a secondary effort at Lamon Bay with the bulk of the 16th Division, and in the face of relentless Japanese advancement, the Philippine forces employed strategic withdrawals and valiant rearguard actions to delay their progress.

Philippine Scout was the only Trained and meagerly equipped fighting force of the Philippine Constabulary, the rest were not properly trained and poorly equipped. Had it been that MACARTHUR prepared early given the situation in China at that time, three years would've been enough to prepare the archipelago for its defense against the japanese. America basically had given up on the Philippines before world ward 2 because of upcoming independence of the country.

3 months fighting the Japanese is still better than the British lasting only a week before surrendering Singapore and they had 3 to 1 advantage with the Japanese running out of ammo.

@27:40 hit me - materials and 5 year supply of food which was intended to be transported to Bataan was left due to logistic difficulties, Could that be a major factor why the siege of Bataan lasted for only like 3 months? I watched an interview of Filipino and American veterans that held Bataan in LEGACY OF HEROES (hosted by Joel Torre)(available here in you tube) , one veteran said, they want to fight but they have no more ammos. they even resorted to dropping boulders on attacking Japanese, they had to eat even the horses, due to disease and starvation Gen. Wainwright and leaders decided to surrender Bataan. imagine what those 5 year worth of supply could have done

my father was 10 years old at that in Tayug my fathers home town. My aunties , uncles and grand parents can hear the battle of Tayug. The US and Philippine forces made a Temporary HQ by the town big Spanish built church by an Acacia Tree. My father narrates that the US and Philippine forces had 75mm towed artillery piece ( would most likely be a French pattern ) fired at the Japanese positions across Agno River ( pronounced AGG-no) . until the afternoon when it stop firing. The church was bombed by the Japanese as well where they made a makeshift AID station besides the HQ slowly sending casualties sout all day. My father saw cavalry men ( 26th Philippines scouts ) The last US and Philippines Soldiers he saw was cavalry trooper fighting a rear guard.

Americano lang ang susuko, Pero Kung di lang sa Americano di susuko mga Pinoy. Kastila time nga kahit walang Armas lumalaban.

Both Filipinos and Americans surrendered in bataan since they were already famished nearing the end of their supplies, it wasn’t just the Americans that surrendered, of course after the surrender, Filipinos all over the country kept fighting in the mountains including the remaining American troops that avoided capture by the Japanese, don’t be too prideful and learn about the full history. We don’t know what it’s truly like to fight in those times and being completely hungry and running out of food and ammunition. The Filipinos and Americans couldn’t continue the conventional fight and had to resort to guerrilla warfare.

Nagpalakas sa mga pinoy at sa mga kano after the fall of bataan at corriegidor sa promise ni Mcarthur "I shall return". . Ngpalakas ng morale sa mga pilipino guerillas at iba kano ng naging guerilla rin May 1942-October 1944 ginawa ni Mcarthur yaon ang statement na "I shall return," na temporary lang ang victory ng mga hapon.

poorly trained or poorly equipped? Remember what General Douglas McArthur said.
@Legion_YT_
@Legion_YT_ Месяц назад
Yes they were poorly trained and equiped, we barely had any proper uniform and military boots to begin with, they were equipped with ww1 era weapons and they didn’t have enough equipment for everybody. Remember that the Philippines at that time was still a US colony and relied on the US for most of its military force. The only properly trained and decently equipped Filipino force at that time were the Filipino scouts as they were one of the oldest raised unit in the country and so they had plenty of time to be trained and equipped. That being said despite the situation, the Filipino soldiers did good as they held out the longest compared to other colonial forces in south east Asia such as the Brits and the Dutch, with the initial Japanese general in charge of the Philippine invasion requesting reinforcements and additional resources to continue the invasion before the fall of bataan
