Old British motorcycles and Premier amps - if you REALLY want to know what it was like back in the day. I inherited a 120R. Masonite speaker baffle, kitchen shelf paper cabinet covering, and a bit of a rat's nest of wiring, '62 code Jensen alnico. I dabble in amp mods, and bias my own etc, but did not trust myself to do this one and sent it to Gerald Weber over a decade ago. It sounds similar to the one she has here. Lo-fi, not very loud before breaking up. Old school tones very different from today. I love mine because it was from a family member so it is, for me, priceless. They have gone up steadily in price over the years. It's a niche sound, not for everybody. But you WILL be transported back in time.

Wow Colleen! I love vintage amps, but my fingers would have burns on them from a repair like this. So many tight areas to work in. I didn't know they double stacked turret boards back then. Awesome job on this piece of history! ❤❤❤

When I saw Ry Cooder play a couple of years ago, his four-amp rig included a Premier 88 (also a small tweed Fender and two Standels!). He was also playing a Premier guitar, a semi hollow electric, which I never even knew existed, and which Ry said cost him 300 bucks on Reverb!

The Premier knobs are made of "Catalin", a variant of Bakelite (the world's 1st viable, moldable plastic-like material) designed to look like marble. Some extremely beautiful, collectible, and valuable ($1k or more) vintage radios were made of Catalin plastic.

Old Premier amps are so cool. I have one and I love it because it's just so retro. It's a Premier Model 50. A smaller amp than the one you're working on here, all in one cabinet, no tremolo. But it sounds OK, has some buzz from old filter caps and it has noisy controls. I need to do a restoration on it one of these days. I used to run an electric instrument repair shop, and my favorite thing to work on was old tube guitar amps. I clicked right away on this because there are so few videos on Premier amps. Good thorough repair you did; the amp sounds great. Love your channel Electric Lady!

Hello Ms Fazio, Today I stumbled accross your channel. Glad I did. It was so nice to see a young tech working with pride and attention to detail on this old technology. I'm also a fellow tech, started at 13, working as a professional for over 35 years. In tube electronics, vintage transistor stuff, and current highend audio nowadays. The only field I have little experience in is your field of expertise. Guitaramps... I have seen some shady work in my life, your channel and work(wo)manship is like a breath of fresh air. You clearly want to do the things the right way. I have a repairshop since 1997, and still learning new stuff every day. A remark: A ESR meter is a great tool when used on electrolitics. No so much on normal low value normal caps. I heard you mentioning using a esr meter to test the wax/paper caps in the tremelo circuit? Correct me please if i understood wrong. This is not the best way to go about things, and i'l explain why: A esr meter only uses a very small voltage to test a capacitor. The paper/wax capacitors may seem somewhat ok when they are tested with only a low voltage applied. But they do develope big dc leaks when tested under normal full load in the amp! Never leave those caps in a circuit. Always replace them if you want the amp to be reliable. Mr carlson, and xraytonyb have some very informative video's about this and other subjects. Uncle doug, also a great channel indeed. If you still want to test old capacitors, try to get hold of and old r/c capacitor testbridge. They test everthing under load, i also use one sometimes. Great stuff. I wish you great pleasure, and good luck, Best regards from the Netherlands, Nico den Haak.

Its an interesting sound - There are bass cabinets for PA use that use small triangular cabinets as compression chambers. That speaker cabinet is sort fo like that but I like the bass porting at the top which really extends the half-wave of the cabinet while maintaining a small footprint. Clever stuff! :o)
