You have a very good understanding of tires on many different levels very important information if people pay attention... It's funny most people don't know shit they just put air in them 🤷🏼
Hell yea and his accent is pretty cool 🐨 BTW I got the DWS06 tires on my mustang. Where I live it rains, gets hot and snows not much but an all season tire is better for me. I hope these tires last. They weren't cheap and I went from Hankook to contenintel.
I have the Continentals DWS06+ on my C7 corvette and I like them. They are wearing evenly and they handled good recently on the track too-had them up to 150 mph
You explained the differences between these two tire brands very well. These are the two different tires I was looking at for my Accord v6 coupe and you really helped me decide. Thanks, awesome video!
Thank you for the comparison. It helped me decide on the continental DWS 06 Pluses for the VW. So far they have been a great feeling tire to drive on. Glad I did my research. I needed something better that the factory Pirellis which just have flat after flat after flat. Between two VW with the same Pirellis, they just did not inspire confidence. These continental however, really add what was missing. It’s no wonder why my VW dealership sell so many of these. Thank you for the overview, it helped!
Awesome review and very informative! I've got a 2004 Subaru WRX Wagon that currently has the DWS06 (not the plus) and am going to upgrade to the DWS06+ next week. I've really liked these tires and only now that the tread is basically gone have I been able to get the car sideways in the turns. They have great grip! I found out the DWS06+ exists and figured it was an upgrade to the ones I have now, looks like I was right! I'm looking forward to trying them out next week! Oddly I just drove our family van (2020 chrysler pacifica hybrid with 12k miles on the stock all-season tires) in the rain on the way home and found myself hydroplaning a LOT. Very unsettling feeling. Seriously I've never hydroplaned that much in my life and I've been driving for 23 years! Really surprised me as we've had the van for a year now and I thought I'd driven through more wet weather. This is only hours after my Wife and I have decided to sell it and go back to using our WRX as our main vehicle. Nothing beats a good tire, especially when it's on a good vehicle!
I really appreciate your informed articulation of the features and abilities of the tires. You helped me decide which I will purchase. If I were near your store I would buy them from you! Thanks for making the videos!
My Mustang GT came with Michelin Pilot Sport 4S tires and they were fabulous ... They lasted 15K miles and changed them out for Michelin All season tires and drove them for 20K miles (and one track day where it was not too hot)and was happy with the tires, but would not buy them again because I could feel a slight shift with tighter cornering at speed. Once you are spoiled with the Pilot Sport 4S tires ... its hard for any all season to live up to that billing. I lived in Northern Ontario Canada and had the all season michelin tires and they worked out well, but not to where I would expect them to be. I now live in the north east of the U.S. and need an all season tires and decided to try out the new Continentals and used a 35 side wall and upped the width by 10mm. I had them installed this week and am totally impressed with less road noise, better handling, braking, tight cornering (tires are lighter) and a higher overall driver confidence and reliable performance along with the price difference, the decision was that much easier.
Michelin: more expensive, more road noise, but stronger sidewall Conti: cheaper, less road noise and softer ride, but the weak sidewall may lead to handling weakness. I chose the contis
THIS is a tire review and it exceeded my expectations. I researched theses same two tires for installation on my A-R Stelvio Ti Sport, the nod to the DWS-06+ because it does outperform the Mich by a 'skoshe' in several comparisom tests. Thanks for your tire education. 👍👍
Awesome video! I just bought my Continental Extreme Contact DWS06 Plus after watching your video. I bought the 255/30 R22 for my 2016 Platinum CT6 AWD Cadillac
I just put the dws 06 plus on my car. After driving around for 2 days, I notice they are quiet and comfortable. When you need them to be sporty on the corners, they deliver. Quite happy with them but i haven't tried the michelins so i got nothing to compare it to.
@@Phuong_Nguyen_ I've never driven with PS4's so I can't compare these with them. However in my opinion, they are as sporty as you'll ever need them for the street / canyon carving. For the track, probably not good enough. I love them. They are the upgrade I've done.
@@Phuong_Nguyen_ They aren't super expensive too. I think I paid like $1300 for a set of 4. 235 35 R19. Similar set of PS4 would be like $2000 (Canadian prices). You're gonna love them.
Subscribed partially just because you take the time to answer questions in the comments. I don't have any myself but I really appreciate that you're helping others.
Thanks for the review as there was very little on the new Continental DWS 06 Plus. I recently replaced Pirelli Run Flat P7 Cinturato AS with Continental PureContact LS but found these to be way to soft and not sporty enough. Coming from a Run Flat I did expect an improved ride, but the Touring Tire didn’t feel right. I have a set of Continental Extreme Contact DWS 06 Plus on order and will have these installed this week. Thank you again. Now following your channel and find your insights very informative.
I would give thumbs up on the DWS06 plus. I can’t speak to the original DWS or DWS06. A friend advised me on flat spots with the DWS06 on his 911. I have not experienced any flat spots with the DWS06 Plus, but again his 911 sits in the garage weeks at a time. It’s now been several weeks on the Continental DWS06 Plus. The tire has completely transformed the BMW 4 series. Better road feel, extremely quiet , and an overall better driving experience. Drove through a spring downpour on the highway with total confidence. Much improved over the Pirelli OEM. I have had this BMW for several years running the OEM Pirelli P7 Cinturato Run Flat, the Continental is a vast improvement. I will be putting the the DWS06 Plus on the BMW F10 535 MSport and the BMW F15 X5 MSport when the RF tires need replacing. As a side note, the cars run dedicated winter tires, Pirelli Sottozero 3 on the 4series and 5 series. Scorpion Winter on the X5. All the winter tires are RF. I actually prefer the ride of the RF softer winter compound over the Goodyear RF Eagle LS-2 on the 535 and the Pirelli Scorpion RF.
Just put these Conties on our 2020 Acura TLX SH-AWD to replace the stock Michelins; the ride is already noticeably smoother; taking it on a road trip today. Appreciate the detailed information!
Hell this was such in depth review from an educational standpoint that it clearly helped in my making a decision which all season to go with currently. this type of vid will boost sales waaay more than any add these manufacturers put out on the idiot tube. Great vid! Best out there!
Continental really has put alot of technology in their tires and can't beat the pricing. I have a set of these Continentals on my 2015 Jetta and love them! They wear so well too. How about a review on the Mud Hog M/T's???
Continental extreme contact DWS plus is the best tire I’ve ever had. On my second set. Had three sets of Michelin’s before that. As Michelin’s get worn, they fade away, especially in the wet. The continental never fades away, even in the wet even when the letters W and S disappear the tire still rocks, best tire ever!
This was a GREAT video! Very informative on the two tires I was looking at since you can't get the Michelin AS4 anymore. I'm going to put another set of the DWS06+ on my BMW X6. You can't beat the price imo.
Another great video with lots of useful info and tight edits. The only thing I'd like to see are more closeup beauty shots of the sidewalls, so we can compare their graphics.
Just subscribed. Very informative. I had the Continental DWS when I got my 2003 Subaru WRX a decade ago (still going strong at 216K miles) and you've convinced me to go back to them again after using Mastercraft, Cooper, and Bridgestone Potenza along the way.
I have used both of these tires on my supercharged C5 corvette. For performance purposes the Michelin's are hands down the best performer of the two, especially in real world dry traction situations.
Except for their tread life. I loved my Pilot Sport 4s, it was exhilarating to drive. For four summers. Then the road noise got so bad, at 60% remaining tread life I couldn’t stand them anymore. Replacing them with Conties this weekend, hoping for more years than that.
@@matsudakodo Yes, and I love them! Nice soft quiet ride on long highway trips. But I just came from the shop today and they said they’re “10-15% worn” and I just put them on this summer. I use winter tires six months a year anyway so that’s fine, just letting you know. I can tell the handling difference though, I could take a curve at any speed with the Pilot Sport 4s, and I feel less confident with the Continentals. I’m usually driving the speed limit (or a bit higher) in a straight line anyway, not tracking my car, so whatever.
@@josephsmith594 thanks. One of the concerns with my current tires is their squishiness when responding to steering. I need a tire that fixes that but doesn't ruin the ride too much. So between the Pilot Sport A/S 4's and the DWS06 Plus, it seems like the latter is the better choice. Your note is the first I've heard concerning the cornering, but you're coming from Pilot Sport 4's (summer tire) so I understand the difference.
Amazing details. Never paid more attention to learning about tires like this. Excellent presentation. I have some Conti's atm but was always a more of Michelin guy. I choose what the data says and all things equal what gives a better cabin presence and in this case the Contis are it. Thanks for the vid!
@@CampusautoCo Very different take than I've seen anywhere else. And very different than Michelin talks about it (I worked for a bit on the launch of the tire last spring.)
The DWS06 were rated for 50,000 but not surprised they will only last you 25 to 27,000. I struggle to choose between summer performance & UHP All Season tires. Continental makes the ECS 02 for the summer & DWS 06+ for All Season UHP. My current set of Michelin Super Sports are about done.
I had the AS3+ on my last mustang. They are great in the summer, but leave something to be desired in the winter. They are, of course, not going to compare to a dedicated set of winter tires. I had a friend who had them on his Gen IV Viper as well and they did great in the summer. From what I hear, the Contis tend to be better in the winter, but a little less sticky in the summer. I plan on getting a set of Michelins on my Hellcat as the stock Pirellis are not great.
Bought continental n Can’t wait to install them tomorrow when they arrive 😊 feeling like a kid again ahhhh n thanks for the review now I feel I made the right choice for my Honda accord sport.
I’ve been trying to decide which tires to put on my ‘09 G37x sedan for an upgrade from my current masterclass tires that came with the car when I bought it. I’m a spirited driver at times with I’d say 75-80% highway driving in New England. Leaning toward the continentals. Thanks for the detailed description! Great explanation
Seriously one of the most engaging and well done tire video I've ever seen. Wow, props guys! But got a serious question for a comparison. Driving my Mazda3 pretty hard as a daily "full stage 2 mods minus force induction" currently on Purecontact LS and it works well and living in PA I do get snow....would jumping to the DSW06+ be a worthy upgrade for performance without sacrificing much on the snow/wet handling we get in the northeast? Respectfully, Joe
Great video! Very informative and helpful as I've been considering both of these to put on my S2000, since I can't seem to find all-weather Bridgestone Potenzas available. I would also be curious to hear your opinion on the Kumho Ecsta PA51 tires. I've heard they've improved a lot in recent years, and wondering if they may have jumped a class into competition with these tires.
Great review, the problem i most come across is that folks want to drive in the winter likes it's an 80 degree summer morning....you have to drive to the conditions....
Avoid the Vredestein. Ruined the E90 Xi we put them on. I've dug into that plus 3 of these and the Nokian is the only one I've put on a couple cars. Just put CC2 on a 2015 CX5 and about to try the Firestones on a E92 Xi and will report back.
Great review! You mentioned the rim protection on the Michelins. How do the conti's compare in that regard? I have 225 40 19 Pirellis on an Alfa Romeo Giulia & have suffered some road rash on the wheels.
I have the DWS06 on the rear of a E350, there is no sidewall protection. Because, I run 265/30 18 on the rear, the tires are wide enough to provide some protection espectially since they are the softer of the two DWS06 & DWS06+ My suggestion, be careful not to hit curbs if you want to protect your rims. Parking on a side street is no issue but turning due to speed, you can nick your rims. I'm assuming at speed, the tires stand up more. They wear very evenly, to the point where I've driven 20k miles and theres only a .5mm varience from the inner at 5mm, middle 5.5mm, outside 5.5mm. I have a staggered setup so you should get more life out of a square setup.
I’m running the pilot sport 3’s on my Evo and they outperform all the tires I’ve had on my STi. From advan ad08 neovas, potenza’s, fire hawks, p-zeros… the Michelin is just the most solid tires I’ve ever ran. I might go with the continental tires next though
Have owned both on a Lexus IS350 F Sport and Infiniti G35. The real difference was ride quality and noise level. On both, the DWS exceeded the AS3+. The number of complaints for the AS has resulted on the tire being pulled according to a couple tire shops I spoke with.. Got about 15K miles out of both, both were equally effective in rain, snow, braking and dry traction. The Michelins sounded and road like we were in a Jeep or off road SUV. On the car forums, the AS3 had a lot of noise issues.
Completely agree. AS I said in another comment and have warned people for years, the AS3 and AS3+ are way too harsh and unrefined for most cars I see them on. We've had the Pilot Sport All Season, the All Season Plus, and now the AllSeason 3 on the same E39M5 we bought new, and the 3 rides like a RunFlat and now sounds like a cement truck. We are throwing them away with lots of depth left. I think the AS3+ had the same issue but the 4 is slightly better. Then again I've had the same issue with the DWS and DWS06 on other cars as have others, so I'm reluctant to switch to that one on the M5. WIll likely go with a different tire than these two since they both lack the refinement these kinds of cars want for. Thanks for confirming what I'd seen saying and seeing too.
I have the AS3+ on my factory 19" wheels for my G37 and they do ride rough and are noisy. My cheap Lexani LX-Twenty tires on my aftermarket 20" wheels ride much better and are quiet compared to them although dont handle quite as well but I contribute that more to the weight and size difference of my aftermarket wheels.
I owned a couple sets of the Michelin on my mk6 gli great tire . But I was always curious to see the general G-MAX AS 05 comparison. Great review👍 seems continental is putting out some great tires never owed a set.
I've had the Gmax AS 05's on my infiniti for the last 6vmonths and I like them ok. A little louder than some others, but really good dry grip. I will however say that wet grip is lacking for my taste. I am switching to the DWS 06 plus.
Great video, thanks dude - went with the DWS06+ for my 2017 GTI today. The previous owner had PSAS3+ on them when I got the car. This is my first tire change and curious to see/hear/feel the difference between the two.
Very informative video! I ended up going with the Continental, I had the Pirelli P Zero Nero all season and I can’t wait to see how these compare, it’s for a 2014 C350 Sport
Thanks, Matt. New subscriber here. I'm trying to decide between the Continental DWS06+ and the Pirelli Cinturato P7 All Season Plus II. I'm looking for a touring tire with good handling, but especially good comfort and low road noise for a Saab 9-5 with 235/45 R17 to use from spring to fall (not concerned about winter as I have a set of winter tires). I read the Cinturato is very quiet, but the Contis seem to be more popular. They're similarly priced. Have you tried the Pirellis?
Thanks I really needed this great review. About to buy new tires for my 2017 Volvo S90 with 20 inch tires. Its alot of money to buy 4 new tires so I'm trying to decide between these 20 tires
Awesome info, brother.. i picked the dswo6 plus over the mich as3 not so much because of price, but i have heard of fast tread wear on the as3s. These dsw06s should be awesome for winter..
This is the best explanation of a tires build quality and it's purpose I have ever seen or heard. Great job. I need tires for my 2015 Mustang GT. Spirited driving in the Spring, Summer and Fall. In the garage for the Winter or even wet or semi wet roads. Does Continental have a tire better suited for this in this price range and still good wear mileage? Thanks again.
Considering the Continental Extremecontact DWS06+ vs Michelin Pilot Sport All Season 4. I've read a bunch of threads complaining of flat spotting with the Conti's, so I'm leaning Michelin. Have you had any experience with flat spotting on the DWS06+ (or any Conti's)?
@@highway67theband sorry for the late reply. my shop accidentally put the conti's on my car when i asked for the PS A/S 4's. the conti sidewalls were WAY too spongy. they replaced them with the PS A/S 4's. the PS A/S 4's are much better. they are so much more planted. pretty much as good as my PS 3 summer tires were.
@@thomaslutz45 thank you! No worries at all! I ended up going with the Conti as I realized I preferred the softer ride to compensate for my car’s lowered suspension on the sport package - figured the Michelin would have led to a harsher ride. And although I don’t know for sure, I am happy with the conti
@@highway67theband spongy in what size and on what car? Thanks. That's not a trait that belongs in the UHP category. I'm trying to fix the spongy handling of my stock Toyo A36 225/55/19's.
Great review Matt. Well I finally up graded my tires to the Cooper Discoverer AT3 XLT. Man was I impressed when I finally was able to see the actual tire. Just got them installed a couple of days ago. Nice and quiet on dry pavement. Had to drive down a dirt road full of sugar sand today and loved the fact That they kept digging and didn't slow my speed like the OEM tires did. Thanks for the advice about which tire to get for my GMC 3500 HD 4X4.
I'm here because my local tire shop recommended the CONTINENTAL EXTREME CONTACT DWS06 PLUS. After seeing the video and reading the comments, I'm getting them next week...
@@dwtubeyou It took some getting used to... My stock tires were cheap and hard. When you turned the steering wheel, it was easy and the car responded quickly. The Continentals I got 1 size wider than stock. With the grippier and wider tires, the steering took more effort and the car's responsiveness was dampened. If you're replacing "good" tires, you may not feel much difference. The Continentals... they grip like hell. I didn't drive in snow and only drove in the rain once to go to the local store. They felt fine in the rain but on the short city drive, I didn't get the chance to push it. I'm happy with them! Let me know what you decide...
Ok. Cool. I will install them on Monday afternoon. Replacing all season OEM Kumhos which disappointingly went down to just 4/32” tread after 19.5K miles.
This was so informative, thank you. I have some used ControlContacts that I bought and they are riding so rough. Mfg in 2017, I think it's time to get rid of them. Seattle freeways are terrible I hope these soften the ride a little.
I have Not went through any of the comments...So sorry if I ask a question that has already been answered. But have you done a comparison with the Michelin pilot Sport All Season 4? I live in MN and want a great rain tire for spirited driving. I have a separate set for the winter. So I really want a Slight performance tire with Awesome rain traction.
Shouldn't the Michelin Pilot Sport All Season 4 be compared with the Continental ExtremeContact DWS06+? Also The AS3 was discontinued many years ago. The AS3+ replaced it and was discontinued last July with the release of the Michelin Pilot Sport All Season 4 which I bought for my 2008 Honda Accord Coupe EX-L V6. This comparison is mismatched with old and new. Also the video title should says AS3+. From reading it I thought you were reviewing the AS3.
Trying to decide between Michelin Pilot Sport All Season 4 vs Continental DWS06 Plus for my 2010 Mercedes S550 non 4 Matic. I've currently have Michelin Sport A/S 3+ and since they are staggered size they seem to wear so quickly on the front since I can't rotate them. Do you think the Continental is a better choice for longevity? Thanks!
I have the DWS06, and experienced the same thing on my 2008 C300 4 Matic. I have it for 4 years now and the front have less than 50% life remaining. I was considering the Michelin's for for the same reason that you are considering the Continental's.
Been using conties for years now and they exceeded on every single vehicle way past their warranty. Although this Michelin tire looks really good i think Conti edges it when it comes to snow and Micheling edges in the dry.
Conti DWS still my favorite but the old ones use to pick up nails easily & had flat spots in the morning but he did say they're upgraded now so maybe that's changed
I am wanting to replace the OEM's (Kumho Solus 7 XC) on 2018 Optima SX turbo, 40,000 miles on them. I came to see this video on the Continental dws06 per TireRack, just to see if I need to cancel my install appt. I was at toss up on these or the Michelin Pilot Sport 4 Plus all seasonal. Basically came down to pricing of the Continental vs Michelin. Based on your detailed review of the Continental, keeping appointment at VATire (NoVA), just wish your shop wasn't so far south, would have purchase there.
