Those Frenchie's have some kind of magic formula I think... recently replaced the PS4 (not the S as this is my daily driver) I had with the PS5 - I thought the PS4 was pretty unbeatable for a UHP road tyre - but the PS5 is actually noticeably better - and supposedly it has a longer life (only done 1000km on them so far so don't know how true that is)
Really in-depth review! I’m a fitment customer and Elantra N owner and had to set up some 18” for every day driving as road conditions are horrible where I live. Price will more than likely influence any track setup as I won’t be competing and no sponsorship!
I was literally, no joke, googling for a comparison of these tires two hours ago and bemoaning that nobody seems to have done a decent test of the ECS 02. THANK YOU!
I own them both. For road use they are both superb. Superb handling with very civilized ride and noise chracteristics. They should be since they are also superbly expensive and the top rated summer tire for each brand. I had to replace one of the rear Contis on my GLS 580. When I saw the price of the 305, I almost wept😂
I used to run ECS 265/35R19, 305/30R19. Then I saw the 02 prices. You know what, I'm not really in the position to autocross this year... 245/40R19, 265/35R19. 😂
Thanks for clearing the difference up between the SC7 and the ES02! As a European I bought the SC7 over the PS4s because it was 30% cheaper! Saved myself 200 bucks and I'm quite happy with them cause there's a ton of grip and they look brand new even after 5'000km. Interesting to see the US version in comparison
Had to replace tires on my 911 last fall, wanted something around 200-220TW, really was hoping they’d get the SC7 to us in time but I ended up going with the new Sport Cup 2 Connect (240 TW), and while I’ve been very happy with the new SC2C, I’m still hoping the SC7 is sold here by the time I need new tires again next year.
@@v12-s65 It is almost impossible to use tread wear ratings for anything across different manufactures. Look at it this way. A Cup 2 is 180, by comparison a PZ4C is 80. Yet the PZ4C is comparable to the Cup 2 Sport 240. During this summer I have done some track days and road trips on the SC7 and so far, it outperforms the MPS4S all across the board including wear. While it is a real road tyre, it has a much larger temperature operating wiondow than the 4S. The 4S is pretty much done at 50*C and thereafter it falls apart. By comparison, a Cup 2 only starts to come alive after 45-50*C and run into the high 70's to low 80's. The SC7 has the cold and wet weather properties of the 4S, but its temperature range goes well into the high 60's. It will obviously not grip like a hot Cup 2, but it will demolish a 4S in short order. This is the party trick of the SC7, its temperature range. Brilliant for road cars that see both wet and dry track days in situations where a good time is more important than actual lap times. That said, it is not that far behind a Cup 2 on a track like Spa or Paul Ricard. The MPS4S was never a good track tyre and it was never designed for the track. And compared to the SC6, it is an absolute game changer.
A lot of us are using one or the other of these tires as "rain tires" in autocross and time trial competition that requires 200tw tires (i.e. no dedicated track tires) because they are so good in the rain. I would love to see a comparison of them on a wet track, including their respective hydroplane resistance. Love your reviews! Thanks.
I ran the Michelin PS4S a few years ago during a track day and it did superbly well at UMC during ISS in super hot weather. Had good turn in then some mush but once it dug in and I pushed it through it was awesome! 30k miles later and they're still super good letting me dig the car in through corners. But now I've got a new option to consider with this new Continental 👀. But then again a full race tire is also competing to be the replacement
I too have been waiting for this test. Just recently swapped from 4s's to the Conti 02's and have not been disappointed with my decision. Running 245/35-19 on my golf R and like any space I can get in the wheel wells. 02 seams a bit quieter on paved roads. Mid turn I can understand the vague feel comment but once hooked to finish the turn, I feel the Conti has a bit more positive bite which helps my car feel neutral in the turns with a bit less push. Braking seams as strong with the Conti's as the 4s's and have yet to get too much aggressive driving in the rain- Thinking the slightly wider grooves on the Conti's may inspire a little more confidence against hydroplaning but we shall see. Love your test's and I completely agree that if for nothing more than the cost alone, they are well worth the gamble!
Glad we found the same things, please stick your review on www.tire-reviews.com/submit.htm?match=Continental-ExtremeContact-Sport-02---Tire-Reviews-and-Tests if you get some time :)
I am going to be installing the extreme sport contact 02 on my Golf R next month, I think these tires will be a good fit for mostly road/highway driving with the occasional spirited driving. How have they been for you on your Golf R
Got some continental extremesport02 on my 996 C2 and I love them ! Smooth, precise very good grip on Dry and Wet, great on braking. Will buy them again.
@@tyrereviews It was fantastic! I'm interesting in seeing what people say about longevity with both tires, as my OE P4's on my car wore out in less than 20k miles of road driving.
I've had the 4S for about 5 months now. I've had to get used to the first few moments at the initial part of the turn where the tire has "to get settled". The first time this happened, it caught me off guard, and I felt that I was going to understeer badly, but it was not the case. Once at the limit, the tire tends to understeer (2018 Focus ST Mk. 3.5). But it is quite safe at the limit. Kudos to both manufacturers for engineering great performance tires. Another enjoyable, great review for tire freaks... like me. 👍👍👈 P.S. Because of this channel, my cars are fitted with Kumho, Michelin (4S & XClimate 2), Continental, & Bridgestone. Happy? Very much so!
Continental has really grown so much in the last few years. I usually try to stick with either a new design or at least one that moves fast because around here if you try to buy a set of anything that isn't extremely popular they roll you out a set of tires made 5 years ago that has sat stacked for the last few years in a warehouse lol
Thanks Jon for the invaluable information you give us about these tires. Your preferences are closely aligned with mine, and I think for many others, and so your input informs us so well in the tire choices we make. Keep up the good work.
Thanks for your great reviews. For me, sidewall stiffness is important for one reason.Flatspotting. I can let my R35 sit on the OEM runflat Dunlops with very hard sidewalls for months and no flatspotting. On Bridgestone RE003, with very soft sidewalls, it will pitter patter overnight everytime untill it warms up. Soft sidewalls also mess up the balance. When you balance the tyre after the car has been sitting an hour you will see the flatspot. On the hand the very old Bridgestone s001 non run flats have very hard sidewalls, never flatspotted and balance always good from cold
But also a rough ride. And very expensive to replace. Many people I know had more flats with run flats than regular tires believe it or not. Atleast one can be repaired
There have been a lot of afternoon monsoon type storms here in Utah lately. They come out of nowhere, dump a lot of rain, and then dissipate all within an hour. Come out to UMP again when you get a chance, its an awesome track.
@@tyrereviews Right on! Hope to see you up there sometime! I just picked up a GR Corolla so I'll be doing the Alpine Loop and a few track days at UMC as often as I can get up there
+1 .. Another inspiring Michelin PS 4S challenge... The competition is getting close in many of the performance tire metrics.... Shoulda Coulda Woulda after 6 years (4S) on the market. .. An informative performance tire review. .. Danke! .. Cheers, Vail, Colorado
I was just comparing these two tires online and there wasn't too much out there on a comparison and then this morning I woke up in this popped up 😎.... Good timing you answered all my questions. I think I'm going to spring for the Continentals this time and see how they do considering the 4S successor isn't out yet Thx!
Im on my second set of the PS4S in 43,000 miles after steering clear of Michelin for two decades. I'm glad my tire shop, former track buddies, and Jon convinced me to try them. Not disappointed at all.
It really seems like performance tires of today have become so good that it really comes down to price for which one you pick. I had to choose between the Pilot Sport 4S, Conti Sport 02, and the Pirelli PZ4. Most people would automatically exclude the PZ4 because it is an older tire now. However, the PZ4 was 10%-20% less expensive than the others and it actually offers fairly similar performance for normal road use.
@@LearningFast yep the PZ4 can be the cheapest depending on the size and there are 2 versions for either luxury or sportiness. I had it on my suv and they were really good to be honest, for a normal car they are absolutely fine. You don't race in the rain and in the dry they offer plenty of grip. A lot of people tend to hate on them for no reason
Actually bought the PZ4. It’s a fun tire. But had the rears burn out in just one summer which was pretty disappointing. Price difference taken into account. It’s still cheaper to get the Michelin or Continental. They will definitely last 2 seasons unlike the PZ4s
I got 60K miles on my Michelin PS4S, rotated every 5K at 35 PSI. Grip was out of this world, but after 45K miles, wet grip starts to dwindle and noise starts to creep in. At 60K miles, you'll start to hear rumbling tire noise which is the reason I have to buy new tires. I got twice the mileage warranty on my set, will buy again when the economy is right.
I think the fact the Conti has failed to move things on from the 6 year old 4S is probably a win for the new S5, when we eventually see it available to the aftermarket.
I was researching tires pre pandemic and saw the Pilot Sport 4s. I parked my car for 4 years and started desearching again and suroised to see the same ps4s still a top pick
You are a machine Jonathan! I am always amazed by your consistent lap times, great stuff man! Too bad none of the tires are available for my 17“ OEM S2000 wheels in Europe, either way, thank you for your always awesome vids!
@@Earl_VTEC I‘d like to use 225/45 R17 and 255/40 R17 but had to settle for 225/45 R17 and 245/40 R17 since Bridgestone doesn‘t offer the Potenza Sport in 255/40 R17 ☹️
It would be great to have a tag in the title for the applicable regions. So the title could start (or end) with [EU] [US] etc in various combinations. So this video would be tagged [US]. These tags get even more important when tires are named the same across regions but have different characteristics and compounds.
I agree, however it would cripple the video if half the channel didn't click through, youtube would assume it's a bad video so not promote it. It's a no win situation for me currently :(
Was waiting for this - thank you Jon! Even though Continental has matched the MPS4S overall, it just means they're behind again as Michelin has already announced the MPSS5's which will undoubtedly be better given their compound and the information we have already. I'd be very curious to see how the MPSS5 stacks up vs. the Continental SC7's though.. such a shame that we don't get the SC7's here in the USA. As usual, excellent video
I literally did what he recommended but earlier this year. Was doing PS4S on my miata and then this spring switched to ECSO2. I loved the old tires and could easily keep pace for a bit with a 200tw tire but the rain was always King. With the ECS02 I'm feeling just as good rain grip but slightly better hook up after numerous runs, aka endurance. Love both but I'll stick with conti for warranty and savings.
@tyrereviews hey thanks for the link - happily contributed my review. I love the work you do and have watched for quite a while. Excited to see more summer and 200tw comparisons!
I’ve been waiting for this review for a while! Ended up getting the Sport 02 for my ISF. Haven’t tracked it but for daily use, it’s excellent. Feels direct and has a decent sidewall stiffness. Not very loud and still enough to compliment the ISF suspension. I chose this because of Continentals warranty, longevity, and price. (400$ saving compared to 4s)
Good to hear... what did you have before the Contis. I plan to put the Sport 2 on my LC500. Yesterday I had some DWS 6+ put on my IS500 since it's my daily.
@@timw2083 lexus guy.... i love the Lc500. Drove a IS500 recently.. bought a RX500h last week. I wish it had the V8 !! that would have been something if Lexus put the V8 in the RX500..
@@tyrereviews I think I'll go for the ExtremeContact Sport 02, for daily and occasionally spirited drive, durability is one the biggest concern. I'd sacrifice maybe a little wet grip from CSC7 to trade 10k more miles on tyre life.
@@tyrereviews I decided I didn't live in US so cant buy extreme contacts, but honestly I was so blown away by the SC7's in the previous review I went up a wheel size to be able to buy them later.
Thanks for this. I've got a ZL1 1LE and have been looking for a set of "street" tires. I was mostly dead set on the Michelin's but I've been hearing lots of good things about the conti's.
i would like to see a comparison between the sportcontact 7 vs extreme contact sport 02. also i would love to see a semi-slick comparison with the bridgestone potenza race
I’ve had the Continental DWS 06 + for 2 years. I drove the ST through a 4 hour downpour in Wisconsin last week and was shocked by how stable the car was in the wet on these tires. 59 years of driving and these are the best.
We have the DWS06+ on the Sportwagen and are eeally happy with them. Plently of dry road performance, superb wet handling and no worrying at freezing temperatures! Hesitated between these and the EC02, but figured our use case did not justify summer UHP.
I just switched to the to these Conti's a couple weeks ago replacing my PS4S'. So far the Conti's seem a lil' quieter but similar in performance(wet/dry). Time will tell how long the Conti's will hold up, my PS4S' ones lasted about 22K(2.5 yrs). Decided to try the Conti's since they were a good $400 LESS than the PS4S. (MK7.5 Golf R)
I've had the Conti ECS 01 tires on my '16 Golf R and E92 M3 and have nothing but great things to say about them. Stood up to a few HPDE sessions on the M3 and didn't look bad at all. Looking forward to trying out the 02 version.
Never got the chance to experience PS4S (Pilot Super Sport, yes) but I am really happy and impressed with SC7. The wet and Braking performance was amazing, much better than my car's original fitment PZ4. It is really in a different league than the PZ4. The icing on the cake is the price, much cheaper than PS4S.
Amazing review I am currently running the michelin's and looking at having to replace them soon. I am glad he did hit on a point that is important to me made me tilt back towards the michelins when I reorder. That sidewall protection for the rims and its slightly fatter look on the rims totally wins me over.
Perfect timing. Was looking for a new set of tires for my Camaro SS and was trying to decide if the PS4s were worth the extra money. Doesn't look like it! Thanks!
You're not the first reviewer to talk about the dead on-center feel. That's a deal killer for me. I hate that feeling, and I'm very happy with the PS4Ss on my car right now.
@tyrereviews off the top of my head, I'm pretty sure it was tirerack. Your channel is definitely the first place I go to for comparisons, but I consider their input also. If you two don't agree on which tire is faster, I assume you're right and they're wrong, haha.
I have the continental's on my m340i. I prefer them over the michelin. The continental's seem to have better grip in the wet and road noise is quieter.
Been waiting for this comparison! I went with the Continentals last month due to the better price for my size (19in) and treadwear rating and am very satisfied with them. Thank you for a more in depth look!
I just ordered these continentals and got curious how good of a tire it was so I decided to watch some reviews on it. I can sleep good at night knowing I made a good purchase.
Hi, just bought new Michelin tires with help from watching your videos. I was wondering if you could do a video on new tire care, should you clean them, wash them, how to drive etc. I don't believe there is a video like that on YT, and you are the tire guy so!
there's one from covid times, thumbnail is me hugging a tyre. Most important thing is regular pressure checks, and a good dressing with UV blocker. I'll add it to my video list, thanks for the idea
I have the sc7 on my bmw e63 from 1+ year now I’ve done 16000 km and the rear look at half life the fronts are like new and i love the grip amd security it gives. Rode them all the winter and they were superb even below 0’C, not to mention that I’ve never felt so much confidence even in the rain they feel like they are glued to the road. I’ve all ready bought another set cause i love them so much.
@@tyrereviews I can ensure they are really a one of a kind at low temp. I've never felt so much grip in a winter tyre (michel winter pilot and lots of other w.tyres that I tried) in the cold and a bit of ice here and there the car skid all over the place, lacked any kind of confidence and even at 60km/h it just hydroplaned like crazy on any small rain (that was happening even on s.tyre during summer). Since i had the sport contact 7 I've never had these problems and the car has always this strange really comfortable feeling that it can get you out of any situation, that is why I let them all winter and it was so great so much more confidence, direction and grip even on casual ice you feel this strange small tyre slip but so controllable and so grippy at same time. (I think it makes some micro slips caused from my car weight but the compound of tyre it's so soft that it manages to get grip) Similar situation (slight rainy day, 6-7°C, similar year period, same road same corner 1 year apart) with the winter tyres the car hit a major hydroplane from the back at 60km/h, (got lucky didn't end up in the ditch) with the sc7 it just pushed trough no effort at 80km/h like not even thinking about it😀
I have had the 02 on my Cayman S (235/35R19 265/35R19) since end of April. I got it because it was cheaper and newer in Canada, at least at the time. It's been very good.
My Kia Stinger AWD came fittted with PS4Ss from the dealer when I bought the car. 30K miles later, I got the Conti's from Tire-Rack for about $400~ cheaper than a new staggered set of PS4Ss. They come about 95% of what the Michilens do. I litereally chuck the car into conrners and it has grip for days; fantastic wet and dry grip. Have about 12k miles on them so far, which about 7k have been hwy, car stays planted. Tire noise is a touch above the michelins as well as fuel economy dropped by an avg of 2.5/4 mpg (hwy/city), but that could just be because of now having more miles on the car. Good set of tires the CONTIs. Go for them if you can find them in your size and price range. (Y)
I’m moving to a set of BC Forged wheels on my CT4 Blackwing and will be going with the Continentals so I can fit 305’s in the rear with less chance of rubbing. Plus they’re around $250+ cheaper for the set. I don’t know if the PS4S is $250 better.
I’ve always been happy with Continental tires. Sporty but always comfortable to live with (sport contact 6)Michelin is more edgy, sharper (supersports) but not as quiet.
I got the first gen extreme contact sport for my bmw e28 on a close out deal for $600 and I am very pleased with how quiet they are and overall performance.
Hey, UMC is my home track! Live in SLC and it's a wonderful facility. Tracked my cars and have done things like Boss Track Attack and Ford Performance School there as well. Really hope it survives as they've (the owners are Geely now) really scaled back on events here. Cancelled all professional races, which is never a good sign, torn down half the bleachers and not renewed contracts w/ many manufacturers- like Ford, for their schools. It's really bummed me out. Anyways, glad the Continental wears better now. Had the Continental EC on my GTI at UMC and tons of scrub after 7/10ths driving. Doesn't help that UMC is hell for passenger side front tires, especially the shorter (east??) circuit. Anyways, awesome review as always!
I've owned lots of supercars and have had nearly every type of performance tires, and at this point, I only put Michelins on my cars. Their overall performance, wear, ride, noise is significantly superior to every brand I've tried. Had PS 4S on my M5 Comp most recently.
@@kleroooo Yes, had PS4's on my Cayenne Turbo most recently last year. I had also tried the lower priced Latitude's as well on the Cayenne, but definitely didn't perform as well as the PS4's.
Super vid - I've had both that Michelin and the prior gen Conti. I don't do any track time and I admit I am a Michelin guy. I really did like the Conti's but the set I had ended up with two that were slightly out of round and wouldn't balance well. I have not had that issue with any set of Michelins I've had and have a set of the Pilot Sport 4S on my WRX currently. Additionally, I prefer both to the original Dunlops that came on the car which while were fine in dry conditions were poor in any wet conditions.
Sorry that I have missed some of the old videos. On my VW Passat estate tdi 2003 estate I have tried 3x different bands and some ate some brands up in hardly any time, but the Continental just work so well in all weathers & and worked out cheaper because they lasted longer on the every day driver. Now need new tyres for the wife’s new VW Golf tdi and will most likely stick to Continental. I use two tyre companies, but one of them is the garage that takes on all the contracting needs for VW/AUDI/SKODA. Surprised that the tyre’s need to be mounted in a certain way especially the continental’s. Nice video again & thanks
Awesome review, Thank you. The only way this video could have been more relevant to me is if you'd tested it on either the Mustang Mach 1 or an E46 M3.
I love both, but favor the Conti's more. I do not track my car, but I do Touge and daily drive the car in the PNW. I've found The Sport 02's offer the best all around performance. Especially in the wet. I'm eagerly waiting for the PSS5 though. Hopefully Michelin gets the butts in gear and launches them outside OE only. Because while I love the Sport 02's, the 4S have been around for much longer and have offered what the 02's offer now. So the PSS5 are going to be huge.
Welcome to Utah! I'm hoping to get some track time on my 2018 Honda Civic Htachback late this year or next year and I have been contemplating which tires to get for track use since I doubt my daily driven DWS 06+ will be up to the task. Great review as usual!
Back 10+ years ago, I adored the Pilot Super Sport but also tried the Continental ContiExtremeContact DW and it was a terrible tire; squidgy sidewall feel, mediocre wet performance, way too prone to aquaplaning even with full tread. The dry grip seemed good but the sidewall was so flimsy driving the car hard felt like driving hard on a flat tire. Nowadays though, I agree with your "Steer twice" complaint with the michelins; they feel technically excellent but disconnected for the driver. I had Conti ECSs on my Miata until recently and while they did lack feedback immediately off-center as you say, their honest feel through the rest of the steering angles made me really like them. Also a huge step in wet performance based on those old Contis. After being a big Michelin stan for ages, I'd be tempted to pick the Conti over the Michelin these days (though a Goodyear might pip them both...)
I had the PSS on my Miata and immediately understood the "steer twice" thing. I never really thought about it until mentioned in this review, but it was definitely a thing. I'll be OK with a slightly less twitchy initial off-center response if overall grip is the same. Waiting to have ECS02s mounted. We'll see.
Did some research before buying for my accord 2.0T, alot of people complained about the 4S being to soft with the sidewall on road imperfections and easily getting bubbles on low mileage compared to the continental.
I had a Michelin Pilot on my 2014 Corvette when it was new !!!! A run flat tire and terrible in the rain and a very rough noisy tire !! I went to Continental Extreme Contact non run flat a lot smoother and great in the rain Now it is my tire right now with the 2nd set on my 9 year old car
If you ever have the chance it would be very interesting to see a comparison between these 2 tires and some of the super 200TW tires, Yokohama AO52, Bridgestone RE71RS, in some cold and wet weather. For autocross there's always a discussion on what tire is better when it's both cold, at or below the minimum operating temperature of the super 200's and wet whether a UHP or autocross specific tire is better.
Appreciate this. I had the Michelins on my 2005 MINI and they're awesome, but apparently they are all out for the year and my retailer suggested the Continentals. So I've got the Contis coming, and we'll see. If there's an edge on road comfort and noise and the handling is virtually the same, I'll switch for good. I'm running 205/45r17.
Interesting, as my experience with the ECS 01 vs PS4s was that the ECS only lasted around 60% of the PS4s in the canyons, and was more sloppy, so it looks like they’ve improved it a lot in the second version
Greetings from Singapore! Thanks for clarifying that ExtremeContact Sport 02 isn't available in Europe - I can't find it in Singapore either. Always assumed it was a grade above the Sport Contact 7 due to the word "Extreme". But I guess the treadwear of 340 and 240 respectively says it all....
Great segment! Excellent analysis & insights! Tough choice, but think I'll stick with the PS4S. What sold me was the mounted tread width. That little bit of rim hangover has saved my butt on a couple of occasions from some nasty curb rash. Thank you for the review!
I have tested the Sport Contact 7 on my F8 on track. It is absolutely brilliant. Much more durable than the 4S as it does not have the overheating tendencies and it does not have the rolling sidewalls. You need to give it a try on a proper RWD sports car, it is a tyre for Michelin to be properly worried about here in Europe. I will say this. The Contact 7 comes in two varieties. One is a regular type, and one is targeted towards EV. That said, the rears I have on the F8 are the EV rated boots. Yet they still outperform the 4S all across the board and are extremely well balanced with the non-EV fronts - car feels neutral and balanced. Even on cold roads, on my Dragy, the 0-100 km/h times are consistently 0.12 seconds lower during a launch on the 7's. My guess is that they are more of a flagship tyre for Conti than the Extreme 2, so I'd guess that this in part means they have put more effort into the 7's.
Just received a set of Sport 02’s for our Q3 but before we could mount them someone cancelled on a just arrived RS3. Needless to say we won’t be getting much time on the new Conti’s
Superb level of details and thoroughnes, mind blown again. It's almost funny, that the old PS4S, the GOAT, is still not defeated. 6 years passed, which is a long time. But still no new tire which just beats it in every aspect. Or have the same advantages without the same cons. Maybe the SC7 could be considered better, or the Assy6 , but still not a nobrainer. (and in its own UUHP league it was always the comfy, dull one, and no difference there :D)
I just purchased the 4S for my 2020 G70 AWD. I love these tires especially in the rain. It grips amazing. Looking forward to see how the do in the snow in Chicago.
Been on runflats for almost a decade with BMWs. Just put in an order for PS4s and I'm so excited! The PS4s have gone up in price over the year to about 300 though which stinks
one thing I have to say those 300 tw tire heat cycle out so fast... they can only last for like 2 track days I will say? and there is no grip at all on the third track days after 2 hot lap,
I wanted to see how they take heat on track. I have been waiting for S5 but if my ps 4 wears out I might have to jump on one of these two. I am a fan of your track driving and really want to see you driving Toyota GR86 for a test. I hope Toyota lets you borrow one.
I was actually considering buying a GR86 as a test car as I really like the idea of them, but I'm worried I'd end up wanting a little more power, especially with the sticky stuff.
@@tyrereviews You might or you might not, it's a nice underpowered car that handles very well on track, it's meant to have fun. That's why I am avoiding sticky stuff. Do try getting press car from Toyota if you could, would be nice to see it in review of UUHP tires.
@@tyrereviews Please test some tyres on a GR86… I’d love to hear what’s best for track days… and then another test for the best all round tyre for everyday driving 😎
Great review. The Michelin is old. I've had it for quite some time and the A/S 4. Continental is German for my German cars but, I usually go only with the French (Michelin and their stars for restaurants.) I think it's time to try a Continental. They have always been a bit softer and more catered to sport in my opinion. They have advanced immeasurably in the last 5 years. Still, the S5 Michelin looms in the shadows.
On my Mustang GT, I started with OEM Perrelli P-Zeros, followed by Michelin Pilots and then Continental ControlContact Sport SRS+, which I just put on yesterday. In the short drive home from the tire shop, which included freeway time at high speed, the Continental's performance was excellent, but time will be the ultimate judge. I'm crossing my fingers. By the way, I liked the Perrelli's better than the Michelin's, which I know is atypical.
Use Michelin's for a long time until I tried my first continentals. Never going back. What sucks is michelin has like 5 plants near me....and we get discounts/lower pricing...so...yeah
Nice review. All tire reviews, especially summers, always have track time. If I were testing Id spend as much time on the track as I could because it's fun. But in the real world we also drive on summers at the low point of their temperature range - in the cold rain. Do you have any insights on how these summers perform at 40 degrees in the wet?
