In this video, I share few clips & cuts of me preparing for my CDL test that is taking place on next weekend.
I start by performing a pre-trip inspection: Form-A, Coupling, In-cab, and some backing maneuvers. Offset and Alley-dock are challenging, but the day after filming this video, I got the maneuvers down. My instructor did a mock test with me and he said I would’ve gotten my CDL if it were the actual test.

I am currently attending Fleet Force Truck Driving School in Florida. Everything is going well so far. I’ve learned so much in a short period of time.

It’s fun! I enjoyed it! It is definitely overwhelming at first, but by the end of the 5th day, it’s a piece of cake lol.

Righty tighty lefty loosey. Just keep that saying in your head. Turning the steering wheel right will tighten the trailer bringing you closer to the cone or line, Turning the steering wheel to the left takes you away from the cone or line. Also it takes about 8 to 10 ft for your trailer to react to your command or steer. I see a lot of rookies oversteer because they don't see their trailer moving soon as they steer. There's always delay in your trailers reaction. You got this Bad Bhabie.

@@TruckherDrilla Na, Thank you for sharing. I want to recommend a channel called "My trucking skills" He's pretty informational. He also created a simulation game you can play. Backing is harder out there on the road so he has a lot of scenarios showcasing what to do.

Hey sunshine ☀️ yessss!!! You go girl ! I’m here in South Florida and I live directly across from Fleet school and I sit on my patio and just watch them do training. So I’ve been thinking about getting my CDL. Im more impressed with the quality of the content here, what kind of camera are you using? And go work running dry bulk pet resin tankers, no endorsements needed, custom commodities out of TX/FL and Atlantic Bulk Carriers will bring you straight in out of school starting at $85k a year or more. Dont waste your time holding a steering wheel and bumping docks. This is waaaay easier. Good luck!

I had to take my test more than once because I messed up on the offset backing and the parallel parking. The test is stressful, my nerves were getting the best of me 🤦🏾‍♂️. We got this tho!! Congratulations 🎈🍾🎉🎊

You got it. Just relax. Easy to mess up when under pressure. Tip to do your skills…. Do each steering action and stop. Re evaluate and continue. If your offsetting, all the way left, 1 one thousand 2 one thousand and stop (this count is best for 48’ trailer, 3 count for 53’) , turn all the way right, get trailer and tractor in a straight line and stop, look out window and look directly at the corner of the trailer and see if you can see the cone, turn wheel back to straight, look at trailer again, visualize what you need to do, turn wheel to your next movement and slowly continue. If you only look at the mirrors and not lean out window and look at trailer, sometime you’ll reverse what you want to do since your looking at it differently than directly looking at it.

Believe me, I was nervous as hell on my driving test. Driving a manual truck is the only part of the course that i was instantly excellent at. During my road test, my nerves where shaking and I almost popped the clutch a few times from my leg shaking. If you stall, which I’ve never come close to, you auto fail. Just that day, the pressure was messing with me and I almost let off the clutch to quick accidentally

@@TruckherDrilla just tell your self to relax and you’ll be good. Ask your teachers for extra yard time if your still struggling. My school was very accommodating. I have autism, and I need repetition, so i got about 3 extra classes and that really helped me a lot. I did the full test, no points and no pull-ups. Mastered it and I was the worst at skills in my class when I first started. I left as one of the best. My entire class passed the test, I was the only one to have a perfect skills test.

Im starting my cdl training with kllm in 3 weeks. Do you have any advice on how to memorize the pre trip. I think that’s going to be my hardest challenge saying something wrong

You can watch videos to give you an idea, but the instructors are going to show you how. I didn’t watch videos nor read a book. I did it how the instructors said everyday and I didn’t change my process. Once you add something new or change it, it’s like starting over. So, during those few weeks of school, practice it the same over and over. Don’t get frustrated.

I looked at going to fleet force but was to far for me. I'm at TDI in Sanford. This my last two days of training and we are scheduled to test out next week. How do you guys set up for your alley dock and offset? On alley dock from a 90 degree angle i follow the steps they give and on offset i follow the first 2 steps and i maneuver it in from there. Crazy how the schools train differently with pre tripping

Dang, Fleet Force is awesome. They have 10 locations now. Good luck on your test!! You got this!! On alley-dock we jack the tractor & trailer and basically take it in with hard lefts and straight wheel. That’s funny you say that because I was just telling someone else Pretrip a are different for every school it seems like 😂 but I feel over-prepared (in a good way). Watching some videos, it seems like they’re very brief or don’t mention certain things. I got the alley-dock and offset down today in class so I’m good now 😂 I went to sleep not knowing how, woke up killing it. Idk how that happened but no complaints 😂 probably just overthinking it a little.

@@TruckherDrilla That's what's up, it came natural to me because I drove smaller trailers before, just working with a much longer trailer now. I go by a mantra my friend taught me while lifting weights back in highschool "Don't think about it just do it". Once you stop thinking about how to maneuver and just do it, it goes smooth but soon as u start thinking to much it throws you off. Thank you and good luck to you also when you get to that point!!
