My favorite tree from last year, the Spice Zee Nectaplum, is pushing out new leaves. There are over a hundred small fruit on the tree that I'll thin out over the next two weeks.
I live in Southern Orange County and have over 20 fruit trees. My favorite fruit is the nectaplum. Perhaps the people who don't like it simply aren't fans of white nectarines. My second favorite fruit is my white sapote. Third is my burgundy plum.
For the first time this year I had tons of blooms on my spiced zee but they all dropped so doesn’t look like any fruit developed. BUMMER. I had a few blooms last year too… this year looked promising. 😢
Hello. I've had two spice Zee trees. The first one got root rot two summers ago after an extremely wet summer. The new one is growing well, but just a couple fruit the first summer and like you said they were not the prettiest and they never even got ripe. Here in Arizona we are right in the middle of blooming season, and this tree is just not nearly as productive as peaches or even the apricot as far as how many flowers it gets. I send hundreds of little fruit off my peaches, and there's no need to then even a single one off the Spice Zee. Have you noticed anything similarly on yours? Absolutely beautiful foliage though.
My Spice Zee is on citation rootstock, whereas my peaches and nectarines are on Nemaguard. What about yours? Citation can be picky depending on your water and soil conditions. See if you can determine the rootstock, and then look up strengths and weaknesses. This would be my first step in troubleshooting. If you can get Spice Zee to thrive, it should become one of your favs, but I can understand your current frustration.
When do these bloom? Mine grew so much its first year but appears to have died! All of the branches have buds but nothing and the little branches break easy with no green
I lost my 1st year Spice Zee last summer and planted a replacement soon after, so still haven't tasted one, but have only heard great things. I let a few set so hopefully I'll find out myself before long.
How taste I only have one fruit on it this year thx I hope 🤞 mine is great like yours. I heard the suazee swirl donut 🍩 was good but I chop the top after having the fruit and grafted over it. I have Eva’s mid pride double desert delight Santa Rosa flavor grenade pluot my friend loves his stark Saturn 🪐 🍩
