The beep test the UK police now use is still level 5.4 but the interval between beeps is much quicker. They modified it to make it harder as the PTIs complained the original one wasn't hard enough. The original one started out at walking speed literally and escalated to a light job 5.4. The one now starts at a jogging pace level 1 and level 5.4 is sprinting.
Hi Tom, After your application, you go through an assessment process and then you take the fitness test. It would be around three months but there is no precise answer.
I've always wanted to join the force. This inspires me to both join and keep fit. Keeping a healthy lifestyle while working with the force knowing YOU are an officer. What more could you want ?
The Australian police physical standards are higher but the beep test audio for UK police is different from the 20 metre one. It starts faster beeps and accelerates faster. Still not as high as Australian or Canadian police physical standards but not as easy as it used to be either.
5.4 in the bleep test, that's the most pathetic endurance test i've ever heard of. *I'd expect an overweight 9 year old to be able to get 5.4.* Seriously though what happens when the Police have to chase someone, imagine the amount of people they lost because their stamina couldn't hold out. I mean who are they training to catch *a 90 yr old granny in a wheelchair.*
Hi Lowri, Just work on your general fitness and strenght and you should be fine. if you can practice the bleep test - think you can buy the bleep tape - that might be a good idea. Good luck.
i need to know how fast is 5.4 i can do cross trainer but i have not measured and i can also cycle but i need to know how fast should i be able to do cross trainer and at what level i need the miles per hour and also distance that i need to cover to pass this test. i failed army selection test because i could not run 1.5 miles in 12 minutes it was very tough
Getting 5.4 on the bleep test is incredibly easy. And 34kg is nothing too especially when you're pushing (incorporating the triceps, shoulders AND chest) which are 3 big muscle groups so they should more than easily handle the load. And Pulling which incorporates the biceps and back muscles which are also a huge muscle group. I'd bet my Grandma could get pass these tests, they are way to easy.
i'm 17 want to start a career in the police force but it's hard to get any information about if anyone has some websites or something to look at would be helpful thanks.
You're right, I'm not exactly sure how getting up to only 5.4 in a bleep test will help catch elderly women yet criminals fleeing from the law. It's a joke, most teenage kids can get higher than 5.4 with ease.
Im 15 and i can get 7-9 on a beep test of 20m and i can push/pull 40-45kg on the seated row at a gym. Not trying to toot my own horn this is just way too easy
It is too easy. Not only that though, but you aren't tested annually so once you pass the test and get drifted in you can just get lazy and fat and that's why you see so many fat PCs...
I don't want to show off, but I got 14.0 on the beep test (After of bit of trial runs) And push 160 pounds and pull 150 pounds. I'm 13 but people believe my age is 16 because of my height.
Alex Canales Well weight obviously affects strength significantly, so if you look like you're 16 it doesn't really matter that you're 13 as you may as well be a 16 year old. Regardless, the point remains that even as an absolute standard that has to include women's capabilities, it's just too low and too easy to pass.
@IXCoSMiC It's equality. 25 years ago minimum height was like 5'11 with physical fitness. I loeld at that persons 38 average. I got 92kg without being fit. on the pull it was 88kg. My bleep is crappy i got 8.2 about 4 months ago.
@IXCoSMiC not really. it also indicative of a country that is so soft from good living, that they dont need olympians just be police ... that even people considered weak by the typical gym rat, can make a good cop; unarmed at that. this is a problem many many people on earth only wish they could have :) besides, once upon a time english cops were notoriously brutal, so this is a far way removed from those times.
Brutal doesnt mean a thing. A skinny, weak person can be brutal. Anyone in a uniform with a badge can be actually. Take away the badge, and the police authority, and you're left with a little European cop hahaha. Face it, the training is feminine, the compact cars are feminine, just to name a few.
There is no way the majority of police are fit the area where i live Humberside is a perfect example why is it they are not up to a reasonable standard of fitness i watched two police officers chasing somebody and within a short distance one was blowing that hard i thought she was going to have a coronary the other managed a bit further then gave up not the standard i expected no way should they be employed there a disgrace to the uniform
