On May 25th, 2017, ATP Pilot, Sigurd Henriksen embarked on his journey from Parry Sound, Ontario, Canada to Oslo, Norway. The mission: to ferry a classic warbird, the T-28 Trojan across the Atlantic to it's new home in Norway with the Flying Aces. Before Sigurd left Parry Sound, I was fortunate enough to have a talk with him and learn a little about the trip ahead. We also get an on-board view of some pattern work as Sigurd is checked out in the circuit at Parry Sound Municipal Airport, CNK4.

The T-28 was the very first airplane I ever flew back in 1976 (US Navy). I remember very clearly my first solo in that plane. I was terrified! I later went on to jets, but I will always have a special respect for pilots that flew aircraft like the T-28, Hellcat, Spitfire, etc.

Same here USMC VT-6. Got the Last of the Trojan Drivers coffee mug. Proud moment after night solo. Flew 46's in the Fleet. There were times I wished I was flying the T-34's. LOL.

Spring of 80 only VT6 was using 28s and about half of the squadron were flying T-34s. Being assigned to VT-2 on check-in to the wing, I had to beg my way into a reassignment to VT6 so I could fly T-28s. So glad I got to fly it. I never knew there was a mug ...

The airplane is a B-model, but it appears to have a propeller from a C-model. The C-prop had squared tips because the C-model was the carrier-capable model and when the nose strut compressed in a trap at the boat, the prop had to clear the deck, but the C-prop was far less efficient. The T-28 is pretty slow anyway; I think I remember climb at 130Kts (110 max angle-of-climb) and maybe 170Kts cruise. Also, it is NOT a warbird. It's far too stable with 7 degrees wing dihedral. The roll rate is miserable--an aileron roll took 20 degrees nose-high and with all the aileron it had and some rudder, and we couldn't get it around without finishing 10 degrees nose-low. It was OK for slower maneuvers like barrel rolls and loops, though. The A-4, into which Patrick Laine (comment below) later went had a 720 degrees-per-second maximum roll rate, and we did it, too! Now that was a great airplane, especially later models with the J-52 P408 engine.

I love the T-28. Unfortunately there's not a lot here in Philippines. Most ended up as scraps in junkyards long ago. I'm a Filipino by the way. But I hope to find one, buy it, restore to flying condition, register & certify it, & fly it to my heart's content. Maybe used as crop duster, air racer (that would be the first one in here), or just a leisure plane.

Excellent video! This old warbird looks pretty up to date in its own way. But for a "two-place single-engine all-metal airplane" ?! It's humongus! Compare to Cam Murch's Murphy Rebel! Mister FlightCast I applaud your video work! The news conference on the ramp was great! And lucky to have a tail-cam, eh? Good editing between cockpit and ground video! You have a way of weaving the cuts together to tell a story! Sigurd strikes a heroic figure, don't he? Congratulations on taking advantage of this aviation video opportunity! I recommend more live video like this! Keep your ears open to anything happening at Parry Sound! Thanks!

First time I soloed one I had a gear problem....The gear wouldn't come up! I thought later about how safe it would be to belly one in because you are sitting so high in the air. That is if there is no fire. Great bird, great video.

Nice to hear I ruined it! Creators thrive on that kind of harsh criticism ;) The audio from that gopro was worse than the music, trust me. It was mounted on the tail and all you could hear was an overdriven microphone from wind noise. Zero engine. I appreciate your expert comments though! Cheers.

In 1973 went for a ride in one of these with my division officer. Did a little this and a little that and he asked what I thought. I answered with stupidest comment one can make to a fighter pilot. That's okay if that's all ya can do. He said well I can do this. Where upon I got more views of the sky, sea, and land than ever care to see again!

Nice resto. I enjoy engine start, too. It was best while inside the A/C, back in the day! Liked your multi-cam coverage, esp. the slo-mo. Sorry, but for me loud music ruins the flight. Had to mute it.

You made your point several times. There was no engine noise - all wind. Hence the music.

Bonjour a tous du Canada It's probably a conversion ,the original training plane T-28 had a800 h.p. motor France for Algérie war ,install a B-17 engine ,United State do the same thing ,that give this little monster.

My apologies. All I had on the airplane was the GoPro and the rattle from the mount wasn't very nice. Music was the lesser of two evils in this case, as it was a last minute trip to the airport. Very sorry to disappoint.
