Medicinal plants are easy to grow and are a powerful resource for natural healing. I grow medicinal herbs in my backyard and preserve them to ensure I have access to them year-round.
In this video, I'll show you how I dry, freeze-dry, and make tinctures from medicinal herbs. Remember, I'm just a mom and grandma. If you want to learn from the experts or purchase supplies, I recommend these experts.
Claudia Orgill is a board-certified Holistic Health practitioner. You can visit Claudia's blog at healthypreparedness.blogspot.com or her store Healthy Preparedness at healthy-preparedness.myshopif... Be sure that you use the promo code PROVIDENT for 10% off anything in her store.
Visit Dr. Patrick Jones at the Home Grown Herbalist. bit.ly/3r7uMtN I highly recommend his RU-vid videos.
Mountain Rose Herbs is a good place to purchase high-quality medicinal herbs bit.ly/3xW9F1g
I purchased the Herbalmectin Kit from Dr. Kyle Christensen at drkylechristensen.net
Check out the new slip-on garden shoes that I'm wearing in the intro. They are from Hisea shrsl.com/3pz5c and are fantastic for working in the yard. If you use the promo code PROVIDENT you can get 15% off.

I make tinctures and used them daily. A favorite herb that comes immediately to mind, though, is mullein. I don't use it as a tincture, but it is wonderful for calming coughs and for helping to heal lung ailments like bronchitis. I make hot tea from this herb. The flavor is quite mild and very drinkable. It combines well with other herbs you may wish to include in your tea formulas.

How do you use the mullein?

Peppermint is my #1 favorite because it helps eith everything and is great as a salve, tea, oil. It helps with pain, colds, headache , general malaise, ect. I also love mullien, yarrow, beet root, and tumeric.

Sweet gum was used by the American Indians. It has the same ingredients as tamiflu. Mimosa was used to treat sadness by Islanders. It was considered the happy tree. Elderberry is great also. I took it during the Covid stuff.

Cayenne and comfrey. We have been having an herbal class once a month where we focus on just one herb. We all go home with a tincture and salve. We are in the Bear Lake area. Lobelia is next.

On herbal medicine books-don’t forget your library! I like to look through books from my library system (I can go online & order from anywhere in a 3 county radius), then if I like them I buy a copy online. I particularly like Thriftbooks to order from-I often find things very inexpensively & their bar for how much you need to order to get free shipping is low.

I have picked up some of the little brown and blue bottles at thrift stores and yard sales. In fact, most of my jars and other supplies are from yard sales too.

Thank you, really useful information. Have picked up a few herbal/medicinal books at charity shops (thrift stores?) in UK and at car boot sales (garage sales). Elderberries are just about to go out of season here, and really wanted to make some elderberry syrup (for boosting immune system in cold/flu season. This has given me the confidence to give it a go. Also had a wonderful mullein plant self set in the garden this year, but caterpillars ransacked it before I could collect the flowers. :-(

Hops ordered from Dr Jones. It is helping me with a water retention problem I've had for years. My feet and legs swell so badly that I can't wear regular shoes. My muscles knot up from the swelling. This is the only thing I've ever found that truly is helping.

I learned so much, so thank you for elaborating on the herbal necessities. I've been paying more attention to the herbal and medicinal remedies, as they can be quite costly, and yet very easy to make. It's good to know what herb is for what use, so I collected a few books myself, primarily because I like to be able to identify the plant. P.S. I received my JASE MEDICAL case - on your discount code, so thanks!

Maybe they'll dry where you live but here if you try to dry herbs or dehydrate herbs in the winter here with the 60 to 70 and sometimes 80% humidity that we have no way. No way so I have to use a dehydrator on low setting to be able to preserve any herbs in the winter time or really anytime except for three months in the summer.

I don't drink so what kind of alcohol, is it an alcoholic drink or a lab based pure alcohol, would 99% alcohol work as I use that for everything from cleaning my worktops to degreasing car parts. Cheers Andy P.

Mullein. I like to use the extract. I was wondering about growing it. I think it is just Basil right. We are working on my herb area that got all torn up during some work around here. We are about to finish our first bottle. I have asthma and it helps my husband’s sinus issues. Thanks once again for a great video.

I'M AT A LOSS. I FEEL LIKE I AM A YEAR TOO LATE. I'M TRYING TO FIND THE HERBS TO MAKE THE HERBALMECTIN FORMULA, AND I CAN'T FIND THE INGREDIENTS I NEED. I DO A SEARCH, AND OTHER NAMES COME UP, NOT THE ONES I AM LOOKING FOR. I'M NERVOUS ABOUT USING HERBS I KNOW NOTHING ABOUT. I HAVE NO IDEA IF WHAT I AM FINDING IS SAFE TO USE.
