Accurate temperature readings are critical when it comes to keeping your frozen or refrigerated foods at safe temperatures. In our recent video, How to Protect the Food in Your Freezer During a Power Outage • Back Up Power: How to ... , we promised to do a quick video on these really cool wireless freezer alarms.
The food in your refrigerator and freezer is expensive and worth protecting. If someone leaves the door open, or the appliance fails, this alarm will let you know while there is still time to save your food.
This is the one that we use, but anything with a similar design should do the trick.

Just wanted to chime in. I bought the dual sensor freezer alarm. The one he is holding in the video. I have my freezer in the basement and the display upstairs 2 floors away and it still works!!!

This suggestion is incredibly helpful! We get outages here routinely due to hurricanes and big storms and it's always been a guessing game about whether the food is ok or not. As soon as I saw the Freezer Tips video, I picked up a thermometer with 3 remotes for all my freezers and it's so nice to see where all of them are without opening the lid. The suggestions on when to turn on emergency power to keep the freezers in a safe range are also incredibly helpful. I have a power station for my freezers and one for my fridge if and when it's needed. I'm adding a two zone version to my fridge/freezer in my kitchen so I can monitor those temperatures as well. I really appreciate the information you share on this channel. It's so helpful. Thank you!

Did have a fridge freezer break down last year. Fortunately, it was nearly empty at the time, so losses were minimal. But did teach a lesson about reliance on machinery

I own these and they are great! My kitchen and garage refrigerators are really old, if they die, I will be in trouble. Can't buy new appliances because of supply chain issues, so these really help my prepping! In Texas, my insurance only paid $450.00 (after loss of $2500) for food lost in Texas freeze in 2021. I will never be without these alarms again. Just buy great batteries, due to cold!

One aspect of running appliances that I'm still trying to understand is Power Factor. Some time ago I tried to run a 45amp DC charger for my batteries off of a small 800W propane generator. It would not work and triggered an overload alarm, even though I'd measured well less than 800W. This generator really is 800W, that's not like a surge capacity. Upon closer inspection of my power meter (like a Kill-a-watt), it showed higher amps than I was expecting and a bit of googling said this was due to power factor. Indeed the meter showed a PF reading that matched. Understanding how PF works and how to take it into account when planning backup power capacity is a topic I need to learn more about.

I’ve been using one of these for years since losing my entire freezer to a popped door. Made me want to cry to throw away that lovely salmon. The one I have has notifications to text and email, which is one thing less to worry about when I’m traveling.

the alarm in the thumb nail clip is the one i got - it works but it is not a loud enough alarm for the garage or basement to alert you. Can easily be unheard with normal house sounds.

I wish I had one of these this past year. Power got tripped off to the freezer and I lost EVERYTHING!! At least a years worth of food! And no job.

What temp do you recommend a side by side freezer and fridge should be. And a small chest freezer and large stand up freezer temps?

I just got one. What's the battery life like? Specs says accuracy is +/- 2 degrees F which isn't that great but for purposes of alarming it's acceptable I guess. I have dial thermometers too so I can compare once in the fridge. The alarm sounds exactly like my cooking timer, which is slightly annoying but whatever.

I purchased one of these and had sporadic results. So I purchased a second to see if I had better luck. Same results. Tried changing batteries, moving closer… no luck. Just very intermittent connectivity. Wondered if you’d had similar problems or found the solution?

I have a freezer in the basement. I'm concerned with not hearing the alarm upstairs. It would've been nice to hear this in action. I currently am trying a Govee I have on hand for other purposes but Bluetooth isn't reaching me. Might have to invest in a Wifi.

Does anyone know how to get two sets to work? I've been running one set for over a year. I purchased another set in order to monitor two other freezers. But the new monitor is receiving the data from the first two sensors, not the new ones. They must be on the same channel frequency. 😮

Yolink has a great temperature sensor very reliable for freezer or refrigerator even at a distance. Will send text email and or announce problems. Smart devices that can trigger other devices. They can work direct to their hub even if internet off

Question - can you run a regular top loading washing machine by pouring water in it with a bucket if we were to loose water? Also, can the washer be run with the jackery 1500 solar power station. Thanks.

Hi Stefanie. Wouldn't think so. You can check the power output of the battery, but your washing machine is a 3kw appliance. The unit you mention is a 1.5kw battery, so even if it could supply the power, it would exhaust the battery in 30 minutes. But it almost certainly will not supply the power needed in the first place. @@stefli33 I disagree with Dandy Cat. I do not see why it wouldnt work. I do not think your washer is "a 3kw appliance". If it was it would be on a 220 volt line. I would be inclined to say that the regular wash cycle wouldnt use more that 70 watts per hour, and the spin cycle would use about 1500 watts or 1.5Kw per hour. If i were you, I would let the jackery do the agitation cycle and drain and then stop the machine. Let gravity do the work by leaving the washer sit for an hour to get rid of most of the water.. Then you can hang your clothes. Your jackery probably can do this. Yes you can use buckets to fill it.

I need help. We stored many canned food storage items under a new house…the crawl space under the house. This began last October. Temperatures were good. We are now heading into summer and I’m VERY worried about the temperatures under the house. Is there a remote way of keeping tabs of the temperature under the house.( everyone says it’s a great place to store it…but I’m so sad to loose so much work to rodents or temperature damage.)

Hey Michelle...as Kylene mentioned, you can use the same system for monitoring the temperature in the crawl space. I agree, there is a decent chance that it might be very suitable, depending on several factors including your climate, the amount of venting that will allow heated air into the space, the geometry of the home and crawl space with respect to the sun path, and other factors. I would monitor things through the summer to see how it goes. As for the potential invaders, I would use some kind of traps and/or bait as a line of defense, and again just monitor it. In theory, the crawl space should be sealed up to prevent such invasions, but rodents can be determined creatures. I would just monitor the situation over time. If you end up with a problem from either issue, you can react accordingly. Well done...thanks for being part of the solution!

Everyone who has the ability to power things after the power goes out should get a power meter of some kind and measure what you have. You can get good ones locally at hardware stores or online for cheap ( relatively). You don't know your limits until you test them! (yes, I'm a solution guy)
