Prepping my FJ Cruiser for a Winter Road Trip

Nice tips. Just did the same for my FJ preparing for a Christmas trip where temps overnight will drop to about -5. I’m also taking a portable battery charger to prevent any morning surprises.

Super jelly! I've longed to be able to afford an FJ since they first came out...i settled on a Jeep Liberty Renegade (14 years ago) and after around 140000 miles my experience has been that it's a great vehicle with the usual maintenance issues...That horrible smell was the old washer fluid right? Muddy puddle? What was in there before... just water? If it was that would explain the smell...warm water is a petri dish...you might want to run a bore scope camera down your washer fluid bottle and see if mold has grown on the sides. The alcohol in the prestone should kill it, but if any parts dislodge they will block your windshield washer dispenser spray nozzles...is there access to access to any hose connections at the bottom of the washer fluid reservoir? Next time I would consider pulling a hose to drain the tank and save your washer pump. FYI, I know Prestone smells nice, but You can make your own washer fluid for a fraction of the cost by diluting water with cheap rubbing alcohol. The rear window wiper is about 12”? and I had to look to find one. One thing I learned the hard way; if you snap the wiper holder down accidentally without the wiper, it cracks the window. I also have a small tube of lock de-icer ( kept in garage), and I wipe down the door frame and gasket with ArmourAll. Helps keep door from freezing shut. I try not to drive on salty roads, nasty on the frame. If I have to do that I always spray the underside at a carwash with hot soapy water. Safe travels!
