Hi Jennifer, thanks again for such an interesting lesson! Here are my answers: 1- If you are an optimist, it means you have a positive attitude to face the life. 2- If you are a pessimist, you often think about things going wrong. 3- I try to raise a cheerful smile when I am not having a good day. Bonus: ......when I was a child (so many years ago!) I couldn't go out with my friends if I hadn't tidied my room. If I had tidied my room, I was allowed to go out with my friends. Have a good one! 🙋
Thanks a lot for your dedicated work and correct my sentence as well I'm grateful and thankful for you Jennifer. You're the best teacher on RU-vid ever.
Great again! Your instructions are just invaluable! Here are my answers: 1. If I am optimist, it means (that) I always think positively. 2. If I am a pessimist, then I often think negatively. 3. I try to keep calm If I'm having a bad day. Bonus: I could stay up on Saturday If I didn't have any test on Monday. / If there wasn't any test on Monday, then I was allowed to stay up on Saturday. Happy studies!
Ha ha. I wouldn't mind being the voice for a car system or something. :) I was once asked to do the voice recordings for an onboard system on a ship I was sailing on.
If you're an optimist, it means you always focus on the good. If you're a pessimist then you often think about the bad. I try to avoid going out if I'm having a bad day. A rule I had to follow all the way through 11 years of school 1. If we needed to go to the bathroom, we had to raise our hand and ask to be excused. 2. We were only allowed to go to the bathroom if we raised our hand and asked to be excused.
Hi Marat. Thanks for sharing your ideas. I'll review the answers next week. By the way, I'm glad someone thought of an example that's school-related. :) Enjoy your weekend!
Hi Jennifer. Great job! Of course, I gave it a thumbs up. I remember... * I couldn't play soccer (at the end of the classes) if my school grades weren't good. * If I got good grades (at school), then I could play soccer at the end of the classes. **** 1) If you're an optimist, it means you always... EXPECT A GOOD OUTCOME. 2) If you're a pessimist, then you often... LOOK ON THE DARK SIDE OF THINGS. 3) I try to RELAX if I'm having a bad day. Thank you so much. I'll see you next time. Bye! (Please, correct.)
Wow! I like what you did in this particular video, merging our responses. I think it'll make students more eager to participate in and interact with your videos. 👍✌ 1) If you're an optimist, it means you always hope that things will be good in the future. 2) If you're a pessimest, then you often think that what is going to happen will be bad. 3) I try to imagine tomorrow without the problems of today if I'm having a bad day. Bonus Question: • I couldn't go out and play with my friends if my homework wasn't done. • If I did all my homework, then I was allowed to go out and play with my friends.
Hi. I'm glad you like this idea. I wanted to build a series of lessons and really make you all feel like you're a part of this experience. As you know, if you follow me on FB, too, you'll get even more out of this. :) I'm going to post the rest of the corrections on Facebook. The video would have been way too long if I had included all of them. See you again soon! I'll note your answers for the next video. Thanks for sharing!
JenniferESL You know I always feel like I am a part of this community, Jennifer's community, even if you don't include my answers. All the best, my fabulous teacher. 💜
Task If you're an optimist, it means you always hopeful and confident about the future. If you're a pessimist, then you often tends to see the worst aspect of things or believe that the worst will happen. I try to relax and watch television if I'm having a bad day.
I don't know where the stones came from. The house is a little old, and we're the third family to live in it. The first family probably chose the stones. I'm glad they did. It's a very pretty feature. I can picture them in pools and showers, although I like them on our wall.
1. If you're an optimist, it means you always think in a positive way. ( but unfortunately I'm a realistic person, and think about real situations, and solutions) 2. If you're a pessimist, then you often seeing the darkness side instead of the light side. 3. I try to find something to Change my bad mood like talking to a wise friend or pray, if I'm having a bad day.
My answer : 1) If you are an optimist, it means you always look on the bright side no matter how much bleak the situation gets. 2) If you are a pessimist, then you often find yourself comparing with others seemingly perfect lives and forget to appreciate the grass on your side of the fence :) 3) I try the counting method if I am stuck in a bad situation and if the situation prolongs, then I simply try to detach myself from the place mentally and if possible, physically also. Bonus question's answer : 1) I used to get scolding whenever i watched T.V. from close distance. 2) Even when sick, I was still supposed to go to school after taking my medications, but that is just Indian's way of life :D
Thanks for sharing your answers. Small corrections: 1) ...no matter how bleak the situation gets. 2) ...you often find yourself comparing your life with others' seemingly perfect lives and forget to appreciate the grass on your side of the fence (Well said!) 3) I try the counting method if I am stuck in a bad situation and if the situation is prolonged...
Hello , mam could you please clear my two doubts as I have a test . As you said modal verbs can be used in result clause .but in this sentence you can see modal verb can is used in If clause. Example: If I can save enough money, I am going to buy a plane ticket home and celebrate my birthday with my family. Second doubt: we can't use future tense in conditional (if) Clause but future tense here is written in conditional clause. Example: you might want to get a bigger cake if there are going to be more than eight people.
Hello. See it this way: If I am able to save enough money... You can talk about ability with "can" or "be able to" in the condition. >> If you can swim, then it's safe to go into deep water. There really is not a future tense. We use modal verbs and present verb forms to express the future. IF + "will" is uncommon, but not impossible. Study these examples: youglish.com/pronounce/if%20there%27s%20going%20to%20be/english?
Hello Jennifer I've been sparsely following your wonderful video lesson since 10 years ago and every time you astonish me with your fast feedbacks even on topics month or years old
If you're an optimist, it means you always think positive. If you're a pessimist then you often think negative. I try to have a positive attitude If I'm having a bad day.
If you are an optimist, it means you always assess a situation positively. If you are a pessimist, then you often criticize everything around and predict bad outcome of a situation. I try to relax by talking to people who I love if I am having a bad day. When we run and shouted at school, we could get bad mark on behavior. My dad said that a teacher was always right when I complained about teachers. He never stand up for me. If a pupil wanted to answer the lesson, then he should raise his hand. When I was going to walk, I jast came for any of my fiends and ask her wheather she wanted to walk. If she didn't want, I came to the house of my other friend. We didn't used to call each other by phone in advance like nowadays.
Thanks for posting your ideas, Anya. Some corrections: If you are a pessimist, then you often criticize everything around YOU and predict A bad outcome FOR ANY (or EVERY) situation. When we rAn and shouted at school, we could get bad mark FOR OUR behavior. ...He never STOOD up for me. If a pupil wanted to answer A QUESTION, then he HAD TO raise his hand. When I was going FOR A walk (or GOING OUT), I just WENT TO any of my friends and askED THEM whEther THEY wanted to GO FOR A walk. If THEY didn't, I WENT ANOTHER friend.
Thanks.. expect the best,,,expect the worst,,, be patient.... If my sister was late outdoor, I'd call her to reassure about.... I would call my sister to reassure about her if she was late outdoor.... I'll join you on FB.
1) I always look on the bright side. 2) I don't see the bright side of things. 3) I try to meditate if I am having a bad day. If I didn't clean my room, I wouldn't be allowed to play with my friends. I will be allowed to play with my friends if I clean my room.
Mam , Is it conditional sentence or adjective clause? if left alone from birth . but ,mam, doesn't adjective clause Starts the Wh words and that but not with If ? Ex:The individual If left alone from birth to would remain primitive and beast in his thoughts and feelings to a degree that we can hardly imagine
If you're an optimist, it means you always think in a positive way. If you're a pessimist, it means you always think in a negative way. I try to find something fun if I am having a bad day. If I didn't have lunch, I would be hungry. I would be hungry if I didn't have lunch.
1.If I get lost, I can ask people passed by. Dear Jennifer, I want to ask a question. If I use the modal verb in the sentence, what time tense does it mean, present or future? What kinds of modal can we use in the sentence and what's the meaning of them? Can we use modal verbs to decribe the facts? Can we use modal verbs in the If clauses? 2.If there are a lot of clouds in the sky, I am going to/will stay at home. What's the difference between 'am going to' and 'will'?Can we say 'am going to' decribe a fact, but 'will' is to decribe a likely future? @JenniferESL
Good idea. Suggested wording: If I get lost, I can ask people passing by. can ask = a real possibility at any time (present/future) You can also use "might" or "may" to express a weaker possibility. The full playlist is here: ru-vid.com/group/PLfQSN9FlyB6QlCAYVttmYlpRyulsx37Vb 2 is correct. Just note that "I am going to stay/will stay" makes the conditional sentence about the future. "I stay home" expresses a general behavior or habit that you always do in this situation.
@@Englishwithjennifer Dear Jennifer, thank you for your explanation. I have watched the full playlist several times before, but I can't find the detailed explaination about the modal verbs, so when I use them in the coditional sentences, it's hard for me to understand them well. For example, can we use the modal verbs in the if clause , what's the meaning of modal verbs in the different types of conditional sentences.
Real present conditionals: You can use "can" in the result clause. Real/likely future conditionals: You can use CAN, WILL, MAY, or MIGHT in the result clause. Unreal past conditionals: You can use perfect modals (could have done, etc.) Unreal present/future conditionals: You can use COULD or WOULD in the result clause.

Hi. We'll cover inversion in conditionals and implied conditionals, so you'll see examples with "should." In contrast, "shall" has more limited use. "Should" can be used for obligation and expectation. "Shall" is more for invitations and intentions. In American English, "shall" is rarely used.
which is correct I am confused is it a habit or it is something probable to happen If Nihal watches frightening films, she does not sleep / will not sleep at night.
Use the present tense for habits or tendencies: If Nihal watches frightening films, she does not sleep at night. Use "will" or "be going to" for a prediction: If Nihal watches a frightening film, she will not sleep at night.
If you are an optimist ,you face the unknown situations with less fear than pessimist ones . If you are a pessimist , you are already paralysed to attempt anything new from the beginning .
If I am an optimist, it means I always wake up with a big smile on my face. If I am a pessimist, then I often see the worst scenario in advance. I try to read my favorite book if I’m having a bad day. If I have dinner, I don’t look at my phone. I can look at my phone only if I have finished the dinner. I hope I am not too late. Bye.
I don't like the terms zero, 1st, 2nd, and 3rd conditionals. I find them confusing. I prefer to deal with real and unreal conditionals and then focus on the time period. But I'd say that the real conditional you wrote would be a zero conditional if it's a general truth, like a general piece of advice. It's a first condition if you're telling someone what to do in the future.
Thank you for sharing your answers. Suggestions: If I dyed my hair, then my teachers would scold me. (hypothetical)/ If I dye my hair, then my teachers are going to scold me/ will scold me. My parents are going to get mad if I come home late after the party.
JenniferESL Hi, Jennifer, I saw a conditional sentence in a dictionary, it’s a bit different from what you taught us in the video. Could you explain or correct it please? Thanks. Do we really need so complicated grammar in everyday English? The sentence is : If she had not been so persistent she might not have gotten the job. This dictionary is not very good, I’ve found out several mistakes in it so far, but for now, I have to use it for the explanation in my native language.
If I didn't have enough money ,I couldn't take my dear friend to a posh restaurant for dinner . I couldn't take my friend to a posh restaurant for a dinner .
A)If you subscribe English with Jennifer RU-vid channels, she will be happy B)İf I had a lot of silver earrings,i would sent a earring to Jennifer. C)if you heat the ice, it boils Are These Real conditional English with Jennifer?
A) real conditional, likely - - If you subscribe to English with Jennifer, she will be happy. B) unreal conditional - - - I had a lot of silver earrings, I would send one pair to Jennifer. C) real conditional, factual - - If you heat ice, it melts and then boils.
If I did not wake up in the morning on time, my parents would get made at me. My parents would get made at me if I did not wake up on time in the morning.
I'm sure there are some really fancy cars it would be nice to have! These are good examples of unreal conditionals about the present/future. Hold on to these ideas. We'll cover these kinds of conditionals later in October.
Look: If you're a pessimist, then you often expect bad things to happen. Two clauses: (1) If you're a pessimist, (2) then you often expect bad things to happen.
Good! Just be sure to use commas when you start with the "if" clause and end your sentences with periods. If I don't have time for breakfast, I can skip it. If I get lost, I call my friends or ask for help from someone who lives there.
I could not accept an invitation to a movie if a person, who invites, is not attractive to me. Whenever I meet a person, who I like, I try to find a reason to invite she to a movie.
Hi. Ha! Well, that's logical. I like your personal rule. If you're not attracted, why spend time with the person, right? I'll go over answers next week. Something to think about it the time frame. If it's a rule you followed in the past, then use the past tense. If it's a rule you continue to follow, stay in the present tense.
No, it's logical. (1) If you subscribe, you'll get notifications. (Do this action, and there will be a future result.) (2) If you don't subscribe, you won't get notifications. (3) If you are a subscriber, you get notifications. (A general truth stated in the present.) (4) If you aren't a subscriber, you don't get notifications. Hope that helps.
