Makes total sense 100% I made a decision to purchase a puppy from this man, he’s humble, he’s a family man, works his ass off, is always transparent. It doesn’t fluff anything up, and is constantly improving and evolving, and I love family businesses.
At the risk of appearing sycophantic, I just want to say that your apparent devotion to education (that of yourself and others), your devotion to working breeds, and your grasp of the complexity (both biological and ethical) of quality breeding is much appreciated. Working breeds, and dog breeds in general, would benefit from having more people like you being involved. "Complexity and knowledge is a benefit. Anybody who it isn't... they don't know what they're talking about." Amen.

We always lose when we do not performance test breeding stock and breed for appearance. I have a book written by a successful AKC breeder with some pretty complex genetic theory. The problem is none of the dogs would have a clue what to do if they had to do their original job, except perhaps the retrievers. Second, the respiratory problems from the brachiocephal deformities, the hip dysplasia, the inability to have puppies naturally, the basic "weird" dog for days appearance of the dachshund and other low slung breeds all bring nothing but shame to the AKC. Even the halter type quarter horse is ruined for riding, and now they are working on the Arabian. The victims are the animals themselves.
I'm simple so let me say how this translates in my simple mind. If you want a working breed, pick what job/work you want it to do and prove that it can and will do that job good enough. Puts me in mind of what my Dad used to talk about. He grew up in South East Kentucky where all the oldtimers cared about when it came to dogs was, how good would that dog coon hunt.

As a Biologist and Physician. I find this information satisfying and for filling! a lot of ignorant pseudoscience is being spewed by breeders who lack even the basic fundamental knowledge of genetics and the importance and how dangerous it can be. People who charge exorbitant amount of money for puppies that are from working parents will not guarantee that they puppies will be the same. it's the basic laws of genetics. They breeding unstable dogs! having a well breed dog is a huge chunk of owning a good dog long term. I encountered my first case of dog bite in the hospital and that triggered a fascination of dog attacks, breeding, why attacks happen and how what was by all accounts according to the people involved a "great dog, that never showed signs" snapping. I'm begging to suspect the dog attacks carried out by the pitbulls as of recent have been carelessly breed dogs. At some point people have got to step back and say maybe it's not just the owners. People are under the false pretense that if you love your pitbull and spoil them, it'll magically bypass genetics and breeding. When a dog breed has been responsible for over 80% of attacks in 2018 alone and nearly all of deaths cause by dogs. I can't explain verbally the damage a dog like a pitbull can do, but I will say it's as if someone someone crushed your bones with a device that long nails. The damage that children suffer is something that needs to be seen to be respected and not taken lightly. They're bones literally crumble into hundred of pieces. There's a problem. They owners were nothing but carrying and loving, I just think they got the wrong dog from the wrong place. They were looking to do good, but sometimes getting pitbullls from shelters and pounds isn't the smartest. Especially if they're already older. Who knows how many times they've been handed down and what they've been trained.pupies
There is no way to know what allele are going to be expressed from the breeding so I think having being able to look at ancestors of both sides of dogs pedigree is gonna be best way to get a basic idea of possible phenotype! COI ( Breeding coefficient % ) is something that will determine looks and size of your dogs!
Your description of registered breeds makes sense but do you think that this is an issue that is somewhat necessary? In Europe we have a much greater emphasis on performance testing within working breed clubs, and our bloodlines are generally very good. We do have pet and show dog breeders too but the breeders are very transparent with what their goals are. My personal preference is for working type dogs but with zero drive, I cannot be bothered with dealing with the liability of a game bred dog yet I expect my dogs to run 20-30km in a single stint. I would suggest that my preference is probably a more common one than the preference for a dead game dog, and so it’s not surprising that breeders have adapted breeds to the modern demands. This isn’t a criticism of your goals but I do feel that the work done by the Kennel clubs has preserved certain breeds that would otherwise have died out, albeit in a watered down form.
The loss of drives was never intentional in any of these breeds. Serious working dogs aren't necessarily bad pets (depending on the type of working dog tbh, a fell terrier or a working sheep dog probably IS a bad pet, but a lurcher or boarhound is not a bad pet), and non-working dogs aren't necessarily good pets (many recognised show breeds are absolutely awful pets, too many to name). What has happened to dogs in general was not by design, just sheer incompetence and ignorance. The idea of preserving breeds based on how they look with no consideration for their application was fundamentally a flawed concept. You need to preserve the work to preserve the dog, and it is that simple. I don't think there's anything wrong with just having a pet and not working it, but if you're not working your dogs in the application they evolved to perform I don't understand why you should be breeding them. Now for toy breeds this application is being a lap dog fashion accessory, but for everything else it is a real job. 98% of the recognised kennel club breeds are total bullshit, because the idea was to preserve a working dog, and then they didn't work them for a century and a half or so (give or take), now they are nothing at all.

Definitely subscribing after this video awesome info and couldn't agree more with your philosophy. The American sentinel K9 will be my next dog. Honestly the only reason I haven't pulled the trigger on a good working dog is that I don't know where to find the training and support in like minded individuals to be able to train and test the dog. Any suggestions?
