President Biden arrives in London as Air Force One, flies in Marine One 🇺🇸 🇬🇧

President Joe Biden arrives in London aboard Air Force One. He then transfers to Marine One, escorted by police, with his entourage following in three Chinooks.
Air Force One is the callsign given to any US Air Force aircraft with him on-board, which is usually the Boeing VC-25A seen here. A Boeing C-32 also landed after Air Force One, as a backup, but was not visible in the darkness.
Marine One is any US Marine Corps aircraft with the President riding on board, which is usually either the VH-3D Sea King seen here or a VH-60 White Hawk. His entourage rode in three US Army CH-47 Chinooks with escort by a Eurocopter EC-145 of the National Police Air Service.
A motorcade of security vehicles with the US Secret Service and White House Communications Agency also stood-by, in case Marine One was grounded.
Joe Biden is expected to meet King Charles III to congratulate him on his coronation, before flying to Lithuania for the NATO summit.

As a former USMC helicopter mechanic on Marine One, during the time of President Nixon, seeing Marine One in London this morning reminded me of the challenge of getting the helicopter to Europe. With the rotor head removed and struts deflated the C-5 lacked about 3 inches of vertical clearance to load the helicopter. We had to remove the blades, rotor head and gear box and then reassemble everything once in Europe. After return to airworthy condition the helicopter required lengthy flight test before flying the president. In those days it was a VH-3A; today it is a VH-3D with advanced avionics and more powerful GE turboshaft engines.

I was there alongside the fence to watch it come in. They played some cat and mouse games with decoy planes and we ended up sitting on the grass for 5 hours. But it was worth it when the show finally happened.

Actually that aircrafts designation is just the VC-25A which is a based on Boeing 747-200B. The VC-25B (based on the Boeing 747-8 Intercontinental) is not in service yet and won't be for a few years (Boeing is currently modifying them for their future role).

Despite all that security, at a critical choke point as the motorcade exits the airport gates, you still have civilian cars using the opposite lane right next to the presidential car. Seems like a pretty poor oversight to me. Even a bus went past, imagine that laden with explosive. I just don't understand the massive layered approach to security of inner and outer cordons and patrols etc and then they drive onto a slow roundabout that is still open to civilian traffic.

This only a fraction of it. The arrival of stuff starts a few days before he arrives. The Helis have to be brought over and made ready. They carry their own limo for the president. Quite a lot of stuff.
