President Kennedy visits San Diego (1963) 

I was there near 54th & El Cajon with my Mom and Grandma, but I don't remember it because I was only about 19 months old.

I was in 6th grade and we got the day off from school to go watch the motorcade or stay home and watch it on TV. He flew in on SAM 26000 which was still in service as a backup AF1 until the end of the Clinton Administration. The references to the new cross town freeway refers to I-5. I-5 south of San Diego ended near 32nd street and didn't connect to I-5 north of San Diego until early in 1963.
