There is a mantra coming from the First Presidency and the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles to the youth, young adults, and education. It consists of 3 messages:
1) President Nelson's Identity Hierarchy
2) Keeping The Two Greatest Commandments in proper order
3) President Kimball's "Second Century" BYU Address
Here, President Oaks covers numbers 1 and 2.
He talks of the "ideologies" and "fashions" of academia and how BYU may need to "break with the educational establishment" as taught by President Spencer W. Kimball.

Matthew 24:24 stating "if it were possible, they shall deceive the very elect" has always scared me. We must be careful considering whom we should follow. This is the first Cwic video I've seen; the message is so obvious and yet I'd never thought of it quite like this. I'm reminded of Christ's parables, about which he said "who hath ears to hear, let him hear" (Matt. 9-15). I want to stick close to the prophet and apostles!

I watched both the Elder Christofferson talk and the President Oaks talks at BYU recently and was excited! This was exactly what I was waiting for. They know what’s going on, that is VERY clear. In about a year, three members of the Quorum of the 12 and First Presidency have commented on the secular invasion of BYU. I just hope their words touch the right hearts.

Personally, I hope they become informed of any professors, clubs, movements, etc within BYU that are out of step with the doctrine and speak to them, as in, tell them to get in line, or to find another university to corrupt.

I've been worried about this for a while now, then I found President Kimballs talk again and I saw already then there was concern at what was happening. Elder Holland just affirmed for me that the Lord is aware and so are the Brethren. It definitely soothed my soul. I found this Channel at about the time I listened to President Kimballs again. Then Elder Hollands talk when I was extremely concerned. It's become one of my favourite channels, knowing others are out there holding the standard up. ❤️. Looking forward to General Conference.

President Oakes is great! I laughed out loud when he emphasized how inspired Elder Holland's talk was to the BYU faculty... It's awesome to see the Brethren publicly and unapologetically show strong support for each other. It made me laugh, because I know President Oakes has a wonderful sense of humor, and he had to know that the "religion of academia" folks would be gnashing their teeth at the idea that Elder Holland is inspired. Greg, thanks for posting this, along with the links to President Kimball's and President Oakes entire talks. You're a good man!

The problem across the board in resisting or fighting against the false teachings of the world is when you use the jargon, the phraseology, the expressions by which these falsehoods are promoted, you in fact lend support to the falsehoods. This is akin to playing on the devil's playground and hoping for different results. If God commands by the power of His word, then how important is it to understand the absolute power of language and its power to influence and sustain.

So, I wholeheartedly, completely agree with Oaks and Holland and all the brethren. What I think is going on though, is that the people who don’t agree are people my age (18-25ish) and these people are literally being brainwashed by society and the media. They’re still church members but they use their membership as an excuse to be able to stay at the school and still disagree with basically all of the policies. Their goal is to change that because “it doesn’t fit the world now”. Instead of leaving the school and finding a different school that fits their ideology and their beliefs, they choose to stay at BYU and “suffer” (according to them) through the homophobia and racism that’s apparently so abundant there. NO ONE is making them go to BYU (maybe their parents are but they are 18+ and they can make their own decisions now). I get that older people want simple solutions, but the issue isn’t just with the school. The issue starts at home with the kids and their habits online with social media and with the people that they associate with. It shapes how they think and feel and then they go to this college and they are told something else and it doesn’t work for them. I don’t even think a majority of the kids who disagree with the brethren are even attending the speeches they give unless it’s to tear it apart. It’s frustrating to see that when you just want to tell them to leave if they hate the school so much because it’s refreshing to have schools that teach using gospel standards and foundations.

Very much appreciate your knowledge and insights into this topic. I struggle to understand why we are having such a difficulty with this in the church. We are reversing course in our flirtation with this ideology and how it was allowed to become so prevalent not only at BYU, but within the church itself. Especially since we’ve had the Family Proclamation for so long. The church just supported the LGBTQ law in Arizona that defines gender completely contrary to our doctrine as it forbids professionals with helping children deal with gender dysphoria (they call it conversion therapy) and requires professionals to assist in transition of gender. Chloe Coles gives a poignant testimony of how these laws prevented her therapist from helping her cope with her youthful gender dysphoria while other therapists, following the law, persuaded her parents that unless she was transitioned, she would commit suicide. Now she has overcome her youthful dysphoria and finds herself with a mutilated body with no breasts to nurse a baby and puberty blockers that put her very ability to conceive at serious jeopardy. I honestly do not understand why we find it so difficult in the church to just stand unequivocally for the truth contained in the Family Proclamation.

@onfire3433 Год назад
When you say the church do you mean it in general or a ward in Arizona or a few members of the church?
@markstimson983
@markstimson983 Год назад
@@onfire3433 Yes, to clarify. When I say church, I primarily mean the church’s priesthood leadership who hired the many radical professors who, for years, openly pushed this ideology at BYU without any ramifications. This was not done in secret nor without the knowledge and tacit approval of the priesthood leadership at BYU. That acceptance and normalization of everything LGBTQ has consequently made its way into the general membership of the church. I was recently verbally accosted in my local ward here in Utah literally before I could get out of the door in part because of my statement in priesthood that there are only two genders. Many members are being persuaded that the Family Proclamation is not doctrine nor revelation but a relic that needs to be discarded. It is my view that our messaging from the church’s leadership has not been clear nor unequivocal as instanced by the support given to the Arizona LGBTQ law. A law that goes completely against our doctrine while it promotes and guarantees the mutilation of children’s bodies in the name of finding common ground.

"One of the pet words of this age is tolerance. It is a good word, but we have tried to stretch it over too great an area. We have applied it, too often, where it does not belong. The word tolerant means liberal and broad-minded. In one sense, it implies the compromise of one’s convictions, a yielding of ground upon important issues. We have become tolerant about divorce, the use of alcohol, delinquency, wickedness in high places, immorality, crime and godlessness. We have been sapped of conviction, drained of our beliefs, and we are bereft of our faith." -Billy Graham 2012

I believe you can't properly love your neighbor unless you love God first. If you love God first, then your love for your neighbor will cause you to influence them to love God because you believe it is in their best interest. If you don't love God, then your love for others can be misguided or misplaced, and actually harm them! I also believe Jesus gave a higher law before his crucifixion. He said: "This is my commandment, That ye love one another, as I have loved you." That is not quite the same as loving others as yourself. I see it as a call to a higher form of love.

It seems weird but with the strange and incredulous beliefs that so many of the pseudo intellectual professors buy into, and I know a lot of them, they strike me as some of the least intelligent people on the planet. A four year old seems so much more intelligent when you're talking about truths, like gender studies, CRT teachings, social justice, etc. With some of the things these people are trying to get us to believe, I have very little respect for mostly those "intellectuals" in the social fields. They are indoctrinated with idiocy and trying to pass it on. I am so glad these issues are finally being addressed. I hope it's not too little too late. Can't the professors that teach these evil beliefs be let go? I don't understand why if this is a religious institution we are paying those that are trying to promote so much evil and ruin so many young people. President Kimball was such an awesome prophet. @@sistermarch660 This is a hard truth to accept, but is pervasive in almost all science disciplines - IT is a willful, rejection of new information or evidences that contradict previously held "truths"/ theories. Science is supposed to update our knowledge with newly discovered information. But sadly, other priorities are at play. Look at the effect of government funding for research and academic TENURE have on placing money/ career/ ego / and power ahead of all else. In public school it is the school board that determines what will be taught - have we not as a nation had recent experience with that? In science - new and indisputable information/evidences will be discarded and rejected when they do not conform to the accepted and sanctioned orthodoxy- and for a researcher to persist in publishing that new information will result in being hounded out of the respective professional institutions and stripped of credibility. In other words , toe the line, don't rock the boat - too many careers hang in the balance.

So, I work with several parts of the Church administration in SLC (I'm in the midwest) every day. I see so much of that part of church steeped in extreme liberal philosophy. I'm not sure why it still surprises me, but it does. I often wonder what my takeaway should be when I clearly see worldly philosophy and academic religious fervor determining policy and direction in so many ways. I don't think most people know how to sort that out from religious decisions anymore when it comes to the church. I also tend to feel that it is the top administrative positions that hold much of the responsibility for allowing the politicization of the church and its owned entities. I don't understand why they let things like the "WOKE-ING" of BYU happen to being with. There's a dozen things like this I don't understand. Where is the problem starting? Find that and cut it off. Consider what happens when someone loves people more than he loves God. This individual would look upon the human condition and begin, with his big bleeding heart, to assume that he cares more about these unfortunates than does their apathetic, capricious Creator with His restrictive and outmoded principles. Our test subject begins to feel like he could do a better job of seeing to their needs than the all-wise Father of the human race. "If only I could compel others to care as much as I do!," he thinks to himself. "If only I could, by the force of sheer will, impose my sense of fairness upon the world!" And before you know it, this one who puts God and His eternal commandments second to his own compassion is following the well-worn path to perdition.

I don't like the term "ally" when it comes to helping members of so-called "marginalized groups". First, if you are an ally that implies there are enemies. So right away that intensifies division and contention. Second, we should treat people as individuals and families not as stereotyped group members. In the end, simple friendship between individuals and families is what will bring the healing we need.

Love others as thyself. One of the greatest problems today is we don’t love ourselves. My feeling is that if we love ourselves, we will cherish our own lives and would not be taking our own lives.

On the other hand, some love themselves too much and forget that loving others is part of the equation… When there is too much focus on being our authentic selves, there’s a good chance we’ll forget that the purpose of this life is to become our best selves through the atonement of Jesus Christ. It’s a hard balance to strike and one that seems to be even more of a rarity these days.

The girls will raise their hands and comment on how, “it’s so hard that men have the priesthood and I don’t, but my testimony is still intact…” kind of stuff. I’m old for BYU standards, I took my time so I’m about to turn 27 and when I hear this stuff, it makes me feel even older. Like I grew up in a different world than my peers.

People need also to remember that while we may be required to tolerate confusion and outright stupidity at times, Father will not, cannot tolerate even the slightest degree of sin, including the sins of confusion and stupidity. The left today is trying to imply that even God Himself will tolerate, and that those who represent Him should tolerate the confusion and stupidity. That is simply not true.

I've seen people condemn the church leadership for, in their words, "Being in bed with CRT". They assume so because of how they believe the Prophet and Apostles are "not doing anything" when it comes to CRT and such being accepted in the church. There was one person I told how the church leadership is doing something, just not the way he would prefer. I disagreed with him on how we need to go about it and how the leadership may be praying for the right inspiration to go about how to talk about it. In the end, he accused me of being satan's lawyer. I doubt he took my suggestion to seek further answers in prayer. He seemed really contentious throughout the entire conversation. It's hard to stay calm when talking to people like him.

I come from a country NZ where our right wing would probably be considered more left wing than your Bernie Sanders. What I am finding hard to understand is why so much is termed in - left wing bad and right wing good? I thought the Gospel was about finding the good in all peoples, cultures and politics. I really think it is so important to seek understanding; and that really takes listening. I admit I do not fully understand some of the terminology expressed in some of the comments, for example Woke? What is wrong with "alert to racial prejudice and discrimination" or "aware of and actively attentive to important facts and issues"; it must be an American thing? Is this another left and right thing? Also, I can not understand how a person can learn to love God without first learning to love our fellow man? So, the first great commandment can not possibly be achieved without the second as a stepping stone. So if there was an order, it would be the last then the first - however, that is just a thought.

President Oaks did an incredibly great job on this as he made several references to Elder Hollands talk from a year ago as well. But to the conversation on identity, one cannot ignore personal value. The idea of there being 2 commandments is disheartening because it ignores the law of relationships that we have known and understood for generations. You cannot love someone else until you love yourself. There is no second commandment here. It’s a clarifying point that tells you how to get to the first great commandment. The Lord states “the second is LIKE UNTO IT”, meaning it’s the SAME thing. Guys, it’s not possible to love God without loving yourself first. In this conversation about identity, the first thing that dies is your personal self worth. It’s replaced with a victim mentality that claims God screwed up. That you were not meant to be who you are. And if God screwed up, it must be man’s job to fix the mistake. Again, we must find a way to “LOVE THEM” in a way that they can love themselves. Perhaps for the very first time.

So how old is all of this align with the folks that want to be identified as gay LDS if it’s good enough for BYU why isn’t good enough for the rest of the church? I think there needs to be a consistency across-the-board you can’t have labels of Babylon and labels of Christ.

Bingo. This is what John and Daniel were seeing and warning of. In these last days we would be facing threats from a combination of sources unlike anything the followers have ever seen. Your use of the word "hydra" from Greek mythology is an apt description of how those ancient prophets were trying describe the threat. We are in the days of Daniel 7's 4th beast and the beast John saw being riden by the mother of harlots. Hang on friends...
