To sort out the bad beans/rocks/debris spread them on the dining room table and flatten them out. We did this with our mother; it was a fun & wonderful way to share the preparations.

@JimzAuto Wow! I do remember sorting the beans on a table as a kid after my dad bit into a 'rock' the size of a boulder, as he'd put it. Trouble is he was the soup maker of the family, so he was to blame for the chipped tooth in the first place. I got my soup making skills from helping him with the prep. He made the best chili using beans that he cooked fresh -- not from a can or jar. In Michigan, Fall & Winter still means soup for dinner severall times a month.

I have a stove top and an electric pressure cooker. I like them both and I use them both. The electric pc is good for unattended cooking but if I have time I use the stovetop. I am not an expert, I bought both pressure cookers in the last year and am learning to use them. I find the biggest question I have is how long do I cook this food for, and this is sort of a learn by doing experience. But even when the time isn't exactly right, the food is still ok and not ruined. I do not find the stove top pc confusing or dangerous.I can't release the lid when it is still under pressure just like the electric one. My biggest question for the stove top was how tricky is this going to be using my electric range? As it turns out, no problem. I start on high heat and when the jiggler starts to jiggle I turn heat down to around half way and it maintains pressure just about right. They both have their pros and cons, but I like them both Good video, thank you.

I adore my new found electric cooker! Not your Grandma's for sure! Two pieces, safe non-stick, easy - it cooks everything from vegetables, to meats, to soups, stews and beans (every kind!) in most cases less than half of the time of regular "stove cooking." I do soak my beans though for more tender results. It's te new "modern day - slow-fast cooker." Thanks for sharing.....

You should mention that for most foods an electric pressure cooker doesn't get enough pressure, it is very limited on what it can cook with pressure. In fact with beams I can never get them fully cooked in a electric pressure cooker, I use a normal pressure cooker. I served my Mission in Brazil so using them was normal.

Actually depending on how much rice you are cooking it can take as little as 5-7 minutes to pressurize. Then it only cooks for three and you wait 7 minutes before depressurizing it. So it's like 15 minutes.

@magnoliasouth
@magnoliasouth 8 лет назад
Actually this is incorrect. In a pressure cooker you do not need to soak them.
@59seank
@59seank 8 лет назад
I believe it is heat that destroys the toxins. The toxins are especially high in kidney beans, cannellini (white kidney)beans and broad beans. See www.fda.gov/food/foodborneillnesscontaminants/causesofillnessbadbugbook/ucm071092.htm The FDA recommends (I believe for all beans) "Soak in water for at least 5 hours. Pour away the water. Boil briskly in fresh water, with occasional stirring, for at least 10 minutes. Undercooked beans may be more toxic than raw beans." Then simmer beans as usual. The high heat and pressure of a pressure cooker should get rid of most toxins. Do not cook beans in a slow cooker unless you have boiled them, as above, first.
@mamahinton992
@mamahinton992 7 лет назад
But you do need to rinse the dirt off them. And you should sort beans thoroughly. I have actually found rocks in my beans before. So you're not just looking for shriveled beans. You are checking for and removing rocks and anything else that doesn't belong in the beans.

+Jerry Hubbard I have a Fagor Elite 4qt Stainless Steel Pressure Cooker and have been using it for 4 years. It works great and I love it. I also have the T-Fal Clipso 3 & 8 qt. system and I love them as well. I recently sold my Magefesa 3/8qt stainless steel pressure cooker set I got in the 1990's because it did not work on my induction cooktop, but it was great and I used it many years and I was happy with it and it served me well. By the way, I just ordered an Instant Pot IP-LUX60-EWN-MM from Walmart ($79) and I can't wait til it arrives!!! It does pressure cooking and also acts as a slow cooker crock pot machine!!! Yes, I know it is only about 10-12 PSI and my stovetop PC's are about 15 PSI, but that's OK. All I have to do is adjust my cooking time. I'm getting older (67 1/2) and the other day forgot I had my pressure cooker going and almost had a real mess in my kitchen. I will like very much the 'set and forget' function of the Instant Pot!!!

I use whole beans to replace butter in baked goods. It's super easy, just use the same amount of whole beans as you would butter. If you're nervous to try it out, start with half beans and half butter. Good luck!
@concerned_netizen

I mash them a little if I'm using them to replace butter. I make a puree (meaning I add in water to make it the consistency of a smoothie) for oil or melted butter.

I'm not familiar with substituting beans for oil or butter in recipes. Where did you find out about that? I'm not vegan so some recipes that vegans use that don't use oil or butter taste a little odd to me. Any comments though on how you chose to use beans instead of oil or butter would be appreciated. I assume the beans you're using are Great Northern or Navy beans? Are they the only kind that can substitute for oil or butter? Thanks.

naturally let the pressure out? there is a way to let the pressure out fast using the valve on the lid.
@johnturner9924
@johnturner9924 8 лет назад
+Gerald Dias The natural release method allows for carry over cooking insuring the beans cook fully. If you release the pressure using the valve you will drop the temperature inside the pot by about 35 degrees which would slow the cooking process. There is a use for both fast and natural release methods.

Since she clearly has a child, I doubt she is doing cooking videos looking for a husband. Better find somewhere else to lurk.
