When I got my Instant Pot, the very first thing I did was get rid of my rice cooker and there are absolutely no regrets. The IP makes perfect rice every time.

+Flo Lum - I LOVE my Nojirushi rice cooker though.. and having it helps me to make rice AND cook in the instant pot so they are both done at the same time.
@FloLum
@FloLum 8 лет назад
If I had a Zojirushi rice cooker, I would probably have kept it too but I have been getting away from using non-stick and now I have 2 Instant Pots so I can still have my rice done at the same time. 😊

Flo Lum Yes.. I agree about non-stick in general.. but boy oh boy that zojurishi (yikes.. not nojirushi!) is one quality product... perfect rice every time and thx to hand washing it - the lining on the bowl is still like new (3+ years later). thinking of getting a second IP bowl though.. will make it easier to start a 2nd batch of soup, etc.... thx again for your fine video.... welcome back too!

I have tried for years to make perfect rice: rice cooker, in a pot on the stove, etc. But not until I purchased the Instant Pot pressure cooker and followed the directions and script for Perfect Jasmine Rice have I been pleased with the results. In the Instant Pot it's perfect every time. Thanks for your video, Flo.

Perfect Basmati rice - thank you! I followed the Instant Pot instructions for Basmati and it was a soggy disaster! So glad I found your channel, you have been a huge help (ribs tonight, yum and so fast!)... I hope you don't mind but I answered another reader about brown rice as we cook it in the instant pot all the time! No soaking, no rinsing and a 2 cups rice to 2.5 cups water. I am using a short grain brown rice from a large bag from T and T markets...22 minutes at high pressure and 10 minute natural release...

Basmati rice is far better than jasmine rice. Basmati rice has the kernel that is 18% more fiber than any rice and it has flavor. it grows only in india and Pakistan. it doesnot need to rinse because if it's clean and rinsing takes away the vitamins. it does not have the starch dust like jasmine rice. if basmati rice is brown then it will out beat any quality of rice in the world. basmati rice = 1.5 cup ratio to get a perfect rice and 1tsf olive oil will make the rice not clinging at all.

Just found your channel today, as I just purchased after wanting an Instant Pot for some time now. Really like your show, the vibe and the yummy-sounding videographer husband of yours. Recipes are really good too. One question tho about cooking with so much water, can you or should you substitute broths instead of water. I substitute broth as often as possible with my cooking to enrich flavor where it makes sense. Does water dilute the tastes do you think? Thanks and I love adobo!!
@FloLum
@FloLum 5 лет назад
Depends on what you're making but yes... broth will always enhance flavour no matter what you're making. But for rice, usually we are eating with sauce, so we prefer plain rice.

+Amanda Moran While Instant Pot has a web page for cooking different grains and rice here: instantpot.com/cooking-time/rice-and-grains/ they also have posted a page on cooking perfect rice here: instantpot.com/how-to-cook-perfect-rice-in-an-electric-pressure-cooker/. And basically what they say is since the rice is damp (soaked) from washing, then you only need a 1:1 ratio for the water and then the only thing which varies is the cooking time.

Hi Flo, love your videos! Just purchased my instant pot and have had good success with the things I’ve cooked, mostly meat dishes. Can one successfully cook broccoli and the softer veggies with out them getting mushy? Thanks!

I don't often cook veggies in the IP as I believe it is just another tool in the kitchen. It does not eliminate other cooking techniques. Vegetables need precise cooking to get the texture you like. However, here is one time I do broccoli: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-RoMI4PBn5CA.html

+BlueIce831 I'm not great at cooking Chinese dishes but have made some home style soups like watercress and mao gua, soups that my mom made a lot of while I was growing up.

I'm really enjoying your videos. I just got my IP about a week ago. I don't have my slow cooker anymore and wonder if you can give some tips or do some videos about using what you would make in your Crock-Pot and how to do it in the IP. For instance, does it need more water or how do you figure the time if you want to pressure cook it and not slow cook it. Thanks.

+Julie Green Thanks, Julie. I tossed out my slow cooker once I picked up the IP. To be honest, I never liked cooking with the slow cooker and I’ve tried all sorts of recipes. I can’t remember a single one I enjoyed. A rule with the pressure cooking is you will need liquid to create the pressure to cook but the liquid will not evaporate and will create more liquid while cooking. Hope that helps.

Thank you Flo I am also beginning to realize that using the preset buttons may not work for me so when I make something that is not from the IP cook book I will let you know☺ Gillian

Well I hope you read this. Last comment made was 2 years ago. Anyway, all I can do is try. Do you think you could make a Mexican rice recipe in the ip for me? It would be greatly appreciated. Love your recipes have tried several with good results. Keep them coming. Thanks for sharing your labor of love.

I have tried SO many times to make "flavoured" rice in the IP and I almost always get a BURN message. I don't know what I'm doing wrong. Thanks for checking though, Lydia!

Hi Flo! I've been a fan of yours for years but have never cooked rice in my instantpot. You make it look really easy but I don't have measurements on my liner. Should I jus follow the rice bag instructions 2: parts water to 1 part rice or is it different using a pressure cooker? I'm using Kirkland enriched long grain.

I love your videos but I don't have the programmable Instant Pot. It would be useful to add the directions for the 7 in 1 Duo pot as well. Thank you.

+Nancy Giorlando Thanks, Nancy! I always give instructions for the DUO at the bottom of all my IP recipes on the blog. This particular recipe is not mine. It is found in the recipe book that came with your IP and on the app. 😊

Great video! Thank you so much ... last night I made chicken & rice ... but tried to do it on my own. Uh, should have read the instructions as I had 2 parts liquid to 1 part rice and cream of mushroom soup. That gummy mess tasted really great, but I knew it wasn't right. Now, thanks to your video I think I'm okay.... just not sure about how the cream of mushroom soup figures out to the water to rice (& chicken liquids) ratio. Hmmmmm Can you help? Oh wait! You probably already HAVE a video on this. I'll go look.

+Babette Cox There's a bit of a learning curve with the IP but you'll get the hang of it pretty quick. I'm not sure how to incorporate the cream of mushroom in with your rice. It's too thick on its own and because it's creamy you'll have to natural release the pressure so that it doesn't sputter through the spout.

So you didn't actually use 3 cups of water if you used the scale in the pot, because the rice displaced the measurement.
@FloLum
@FloLum 8 лет назад
It is equal amounts of rice to water. If you measure 3 cups of rice with the cup that came with your pot and then measured 3 cups of water in that same cup, you will find that the water will reach the 3 cup line in the pot.

So, if I have a recipe that says use 3 cups water, or broth or whatever, and I fill that empty pot up to the three cup measurement mark on the pot, I'm getting more than 3 cups then? Because in your explanation above, you used an equal amount of rice to displace that equal amount of liquid. In my scenario, it's all liquid.

The marks are IF YOU USE THE PLASTIC CUP TO MEASURE. Otherwise, if you use a real measuring cup, 3 cups rice, and then a real measuring glass, 3 cups water.
